Yahoo! India Job Search Full Post View | List View

Musings of the Yahoo! India Job Search product team, about features, feedback, issues and experiences with yijobsearch

Theme changes
Our team had been to watch a movie on Tuesday - The Devil Wears Prada. Nikhil made the choice of movie and Parveen approved it after checking the ratings on IMDB and Yahoo! Movies. It was a neat movie, going beyond the attention provided to the popcorns and the fizzy drinks, to actually making us get involved in the scenes.
After the movie, some of us were wondering where Prada figures - there were a whole lot of names that figured: Valentino, Fendi, Georges Chakra, Azzaro et al. Nikhil did point out that Prada figured somewhat early in the movie and that the name was not an accident. Anyways, an afternoon of good fun. And just to remember the event, we changed the theme of this blog to 'Shoes', though these don't exactly resemble the stilettos that Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep are seen wearing in the movie.

Company Search

All those Jobsearch users, we have a new feature for you. We can get you jobs from within a company, on Yahoo! India Jobsearch now.

If you search for, say, 'Sales Manager - Mumbai', you get Results for Sales Manager in Mumbai.

You scroll down and see that 'Career Avenues' has listed a few jobs in the first result page itself. And you want to see all the jobs that 'Career Avenues' has. Just click the 'Career Avenues (I) Pvt Ltd' link on the job listing. Bingo! You go to the page that has all jobs from Career Avenues.

Now, let's say you want to see all jobs from Microsoft. Just go to the keyword box and type company:microsoft or company:"microsoft". You see all Jobs listed for Microsoft, Microsoft Development Center and so on.

Interestingly, this is one feature that we see users to be discovering pretty quickly. If you've used this, do let us know how you liked it.

Cheers,

The Jobsearch team

Back from a hiatus
Been quite a while since we took some time off, to post on this blog (close to 55 days!). Meanwhile, we've been doing nifty little changes to the site and I'll write about few of them in the next few posts. Anyways, here's a big 'HI' to all our users and blog readers from the Job Search team.
After doing a bit of feature updates, we're running a survey to get to hear more from our users. We welcome your feedback and would like to use that to improve the Job Search experience for you. Take our survey from the site (http://in.jobs.yahoo.com).

Cheers,
The Job Search Team

Job Search gets 'Bangalored'
You guessed it right!
On our homepage, Location tab, the total jobs available in each location is mentioned. Every once a while I go there to check which city has the most jobs. I'm sure you're not surprised that Bangalore tops the list with over 70K jobs, on a consistent basis!
Not satisfied enough, we did an analysis of locations that were searched in the past few weeks. And here's the top 10 cities that seem to get searched from Yahoo! India Job Search:
  1. Bangalore (not surprising)
  2. Mumbai
  3. Delhi (without NCR)
  4. Chennai
  5. Hyderabad
  6. Pune
  7. Kolkata
  8. Dubai Image
  9. Ahmedabad
  10. Gurgaon
This list pretty much correlates positively with the number of jobs available in each location (as measured from our homepage). Obviously, vacancy begets candidates. So, if you're seeking a job, the probability of finding one that suits your profile is higher in these cities.

Bookmark your Search - Live

Live Bookmarks for your job searches: Now you can include job searches on Yahoo! India Job Search (http://in.jobs.yahoo.com) as Live Bookmarks on your Firefox browser. Now when you perform your favourite job search on your favourite job search site with your favourite browser, you can add it as a Live Bookmark.

For the uninitiated, here's how to add the Live Bookmark: Bookmark -> Manage Bookmark -> File -> New Live Bookmark -> Name: [My Favourite Search], Feed Location: [url for the RSS Feed (got from Right click  RSS  icon -> Copy Link Location)

Meanwhile, the team's busy trying out some new and interesting experiments on searching. If you think we don't do the job as well as we should be, let us know at yijobsearch@yahoo.co.in.
