Branding yourself
Was reading an article in  Fast Company’s website,  written by Tom Peters entitled as "The Brand Called You". Its an excellent example of the wealth of information you, as a musician/artist, can pull from articles found in business publications. Information that is not being talked about in Guitar Player or Modern Drummer. The article is chock FULL of stuff that will make you think, re-think, and take action.

He tries to impland the the concept of  You, Inc.) by making you think about the following

  • Find out what makes you Unique?
The answer should light the eyes of the prospective client, get a vote of confidence from the past client and most important of all grap your attention.  Search the answer by thinking about the following
    • How are you different from your collegues
    • What did you do in the last week/month to make you stand out
    • What would your co-workers/clients/employers say is your greatest strenth
    • Do a feature-benufit analysis. What feature you offer, what benufit does it provide
    • What Can i brag about ? What can I take credit for ?
  • Market Brand You!
    • Moonlight/work on an extra project to showcase your skills
    • Teach in community class or in your own company
    • Write articles - community newspaper,  and develop a repo-
    • If you excell in talking then get try to get on a pannel discussion and eventually make the speech.
    • Use word of mouth marketing for achieving the personal brand
  • Build the Real Power -Make a significant contribution in the area of expertize, build bragability. Use projects to advertize Me Inc. Instead of a resume build a marketing brochure brings to life the skills you've mastered, the projects you've delivered, the braggables you can take credit for
  • Build Loyalty - It's not the blind loalty to the company people had in bygone era, but loyalty to the team and project which really counts.
  • Building a future - A career growth path is not necessarly up (manager) it can go  sideways, forward, slide on the diagonal, even go backward when needed

Dussehra - Celebrating the victory of good over evil
Image
Dussehra is  a Hindu festival, which is celebrated to mark the defeat of Ravana by Lord Rama. In certain parts of india Dussehra (Vijay-dashmi)  also symbolises the triumph of warrior Goddess Durga over the buffalo demon, Mahishasura

dussehra1.jpgDussehra can also be interpreted as “Dasa-Hara“, which means the cutting of the ten heads of Ravana. On the day of Dussehra, Ram, killed the great demon Ravan, who had abducted Ram’s wife Sita to his kingdom of Lanka. Ram, along with his brother Lakshman and devoted follower Hanuman, and an army of monkeys fought a great battle to rescue his lovely wife Sita. The war against Ravan lasted for ten days. Sita had been returned to her husband Ram and they now make their way to Ayodhya in triumph and glory. Dussera is the tenth day after Navratri. It marks the end of the nine days of Navratri.

The festival of Dussehra is celebrated by buring the Effigy of Ravana and his brothers MeghnathKumbhkaran

Here is the Video of the celebrations from New Rajinder Nagar, New Delhi

Stanford Prison Experiment
Saw Stanford Prison Experiment yesterday and was really amazed at the change in human nature when the circumstances changes.

This is a about an experiemnt in which regular college student were put in a simulated role of guards and prisnors by the flip of the coin. Within a few days simulation took over there lives - guard role promotes saidism and the prisnor role promotes confusion and depression.
