Guest Speaker at Religions of the World
Hindu Belief and Practice
Reverend Canon Lee Graham's Class
Wednesday, October 1, 2008; 6:30 -7:45 PM

Reverend Canon Lee Graham, Rector Emeritus of Saint John's Episcopal Church of Tallahassee wanted to find someone to speak about Hinduism for his class of about 30 people. They have been meeting once a week on Wednesday evenings to discuss about religions of the world.

Father Graham went to the public library to check out books. While there through an acquaintance of mine at the library found my name and phone number and contacted me about two weeks ago. I met with him over lunch and got a copy of the questions from him and his group.

Then I spent about a week thinking and searching for appropriate answers both from my own experience as a practicing Hindu and reading of books and manuscripts about Hinduism. I prepared the answers as best I could and went to their group and spoke to them.

The audience was very attentive and were very happy to hear about Hinduism. Following my prepared answers for their questions there was impromptu question and answers. I felt that we had opened up a channel through which Hindus and the people who had gathered can work together for a better understanding of each other.

Limelight Section of the Democrat

My interview with the Tallahassee Democrat newspaper's Asst Custom Content Editor Kati Schardl about tomorrow's Fourth Annual Experience Asia Festival appeared in today's edition of Limelight section.

During the interview Kati asked me about the general information about the Asian Coalition of Tallahassee and the Experience Asia Festival 2008. We went on to talk about the joy of watching performers from 10 to 15 countries come in their native and colorful attire and put on a great show. I explained to her how this is relevant to Tallahassee and recounted to her my own experience of watching Awaji Puppet Theater in Osaka, Japan gave a new perspective about the Japanese customs and culture.

I also talked to her about how I learned that Pakistanis, Bangladeshis, and Indians share almost the same outlook on life, enjoy the same kind of food and laugh at the same jokes. That was possible only when I met and spoke with them.

Keynote Address at Florida Government Technology Conference

Scott McNealy, Chairman of Sun Micro Systems gave a keynote speech titled "Sharing Wins - How Open Source Technology Can Drive Growth and Progress for Florida" at 2008 Florida Government Technology Conference on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 in Room A at the Civic Center in Tallahassee, Florida, USA.

He spoke about how Sun has been a pioneer in Open Source ever since they started their work (Bill Joy) at Berkeley UNIX in early eighties and their continued work in opening and implementing TCP/IP. He stressed that how they are continuing the support for open source with MySQL, Java, OpenSolaris, and JavaFxScript.

Even though many are concerned about safety and security of an "OpenSource" MrMcNealy assured people it is no worse than a proprietery system with secret built in.
