- Rodeo
-
We had a fun weekend. We drove up to Tremonton on Friday to go to the Golden Spike rodeo with our friends, the Crowthers, who were our neighbors at BYU. Rodeos are good family events, expecially when you have boys. They loved seeing the horses, bulls, and cowboys. I love getting out of the city every once in while, and being among the people that work the land for a living. I was humbled to see every person in the arena standing at attention with their hands over their hearts as they sang the national anthem. The other touching part of the event was the "tough enough to wear pink" campaign, where nearly every cowboy was wearing a pink shirt to raise awareness for breast cancer. It made me think of my Aunt Nancy, and her recent fight with cancer, and my mom. I think she would have been touched.
The next day, we met Matt (my brother) and Erin at the Ogden Dinosaur Park. It's a pretty impressive facility- one more example of Ogden's resurgence into the spotlight. They have numerous life size dinosaur statues scattered around amidst the trees and brush, which was pretty cool, but we went in the middle of the day, so we found some air-conditioned indoor activities before too long.
- Can you feel it?
-
Football is in the air! Last year, I was complaining to Natalie that BYU wasn't getting any respect from the national media, and this year, she's been giving me a hard time because I'm complaining that too many in the national media are hyping BYU up too much. It makes me nervous, but when they go 11-2 two years in a row, it's hard for expectations not to be high.
This picture is from the annual women's clinic that Natalie went to. She went with cousins, her sister Denise (who was visiting from Wisconsin), and sister-in-law Johanna. This was the only picture that I could find with Natalie in it. This is her third time attending. She always has a good time. They tour the facilities, meet the players and coaches, and run drills. Meanwhile, the jealous husbands are home with the kids, wishing we could be there.
- New door
-
I'm quite proud of myself. I cut a hole in my garage and filled it with a new door- and it actually works! We have an older, detached garage, and previously the only way in or out was through the electric-powered main door. A couple of times last winter, we had a storm that knocked out the power, making it so we didn't have heat, and we could get into the garage to go anywhere. Now that we have a person door, we can go inside the garage and open the main door from the inside. I think it will also be handy for non-emergencies.
- Another Boy!
-
Baby number three will be a boy. We had an ultrasound on Thursday that showed that he is healthy and everything is right on track. Boys are fun (although sometimes a little rowdy!), so we are happy. We will continue to be able to refer to our children as "the boys".
This picture is from a couple of weeks ago. I took the day off of work and took the boys up to Ogden on the new train. They thought it was pretty cool. Once we got there we went to the train museum, which is really well done, and very kid friendly. On the ride back, I was chasing Peter as he ran down the isle on the top deck, down the stairs, up the isle of the bottom deck, and up the other stairs. Needless to say, we got to know the other people on the train pretty well. Natalie and I can already imagine boy #3 running along behind his two big brothers as the continue on their adventures!
- Float Preview
-
We just got back from the float preview for the Pioneer Days Parade. They always do it down at the South Towne Expo Center. This is our third year going, so I guess it's a tradition now. The boys had a great time. They have clowns that make fun balloons, and they even had the SLCC marching band and cheerleaders marching around the room. I'm always amazed at the level of detail and creativity that goes into the floats. Last year, we saw Uncle Clark and Aunt Jo and their family there- they had worked on their stake's float. They seemed satisfied with their work, but didn't seem to be in a hurry to do it again...
