I took this picture in the early a.m. Monday.

Little did I know this cloud formation was just a preview of what was to come. The sun came out and just sparkled. And, while the sun was shining, we had a real downpour. It rained and rained. Soon the clouds took over the sky and we were in deep shadow. It still rained but now we had the added excitement of thunder and lightning. A couple of times the walls shook.

And, you know what, I had just watered the yard right before the rain started.

A few days back I mentioned that I was making some "Vamp" cards. Well, they are finally finished. I did use parts of the bracelet as embellishments. You can't really tell but each link of the bracelet is an image of a woman. I thought that worked well and the little gems are in the colors that I used in the cards.

I'm happy with the results.

That chore didn't take long at all. The glue was a little stubborn and had to be dampened and scraped, but, overall, it was an easy job. It is even all primed and ready to tape and plaster. Boy, we are moving right along.

The present wall color is similar to the shirt "artfully" draped across the back of the futon. My husband has not been happy with the color. Our new paint will be in the same color family but much lighter.

Everything has been carted out to the curb and has been picked up. The pick up service is a really nice bonus. They even came before the carpet pieces got drenched with rain.

We've had a couple of really nice soaking rains. Thank goodness the threat of Tropical Storm Fay didn't come about for us. We did have some pretty good winds but nothing major.

Okay! Back to work.

Entry for August 20, 2008 I told you it was GROSS

And, that isn't the worst of it. I'm ashamed to show that to you. I suspected the carpet was pretty bad but not this bad. Already it is so much nicer.

One thing leads to another. We've decided to remove the wallpaper also. Ha! that'll fix Lorne. He now has to fill in all of the cracks and give the wall a light plaster job and repaint the whole room. The wallpaper came down yesterday. Today, I will bag everything and put it at the curb next to the old carpet. We have free pickup service here. The mess should all be gone Thursday.

On Saturday our "paid handyman" was to come and fix a leak around the skylight in the kitchen. Well, I'll be darned if he didn't show up yesterday to do the job. We have a storm scheduled to arrive on Thursday and he thought he would fix our leak before the storm hit. How thoughtful of him.

Oh! And our chandelier still isn't hung. We have to get new chain for it. That's on our shopping list for Home Depot.

If you are are in a hurry to get a job done, don't call us.

Entry for August 19, 2008 Do You Have any Dirty Bottles?

I just happen to have a new, bright red bottle brush. I saw one of these in bloom on a recent trip to Charleston. I just had to have one. And, there one was just waiting for me at Home Depot. As soon as I put it in the ground it started putting out new growth. Yesterday I noticed this beauty had popped opened. And, there are more to come. Oh boy! Am I getting a "green thumb"?

Lorne and I started a new project yesterday morning. We ripped up the carpet and padding in the sun room. Yuk, it was more gross than I suspected. We are now down to the bare wood. I pulled out all of the remaining staples and Lorne took up the tack strips. Next came a good, and I mean good, bleach water wash. Lorne is now caulking around the perimeter to seal any gaps between the floor and walls. Whew!

I just wanted to stain it but Lorne is thinking of laying laminate. He says it will be good practice for when we do the living and dining room and the kitchen and laundry room. What? I thought we were just going to take up the old tile so someone else could lay the new flooring. That is going to be a big job. Are we up to it? We'll see.

Entry for August 16, 2008 Church Yard Sale

Yep, I did it again. Went to a yard sale. This one was held at the Belin Methodist Church in Murrells Inlet. The church sits on a beautiful site right on the inlet. The church yard is full of Live Oaks hanging with Spanish Moss.

The sale was held in the church rec center. We walked in and the room was filled with all kinds of goodies. It was 7 a.m. so not very many shoppers had arrived. For once, we had plenty of elbow room.

One of first things that I found was the hat box, a good thing, because I left my tote in the car. I filled the hat box with all kinds of goodies. Mostly things to use in crafting. I really like the picture frame. And, I needed a new pair of garden gloves. I got a box of wooden dominoes, a flower press, pieces of jewelry, very colorful coasters, a gold doily, wooden plaques for decoupage and don't ask me what the black spirals are. I don't know, but, I must be able to use them for something.

Lorne got the gold hammer for me. When you unscrew the handle there are 3 kinds of screwdrivers in there. Pretty nifty.

Right now I'm working on a set of greeting cards featuring faces of women (vamps). I will dismantle the bracelet and the charms will make the perfect embellishment for the cards.

See, I do use all of this stuff that I drag home.

And, it isn't even Saturday.

We are having a lovely, soaking rain today. It sure is a lot nicer than our usual cloudburst. So, I decided to move all of the patio plants out into the rain for a bath. This is only part of them. There are more sitting in the driveway. I swear I heard them squeal in delight.

Do you think they'd like a loofa?

p.s.: The yellow cord is from the lawn mower. Lorne got the grass cut yesterday just in time.

Entry for August 09, 2008 - It Was a Very Good Day

My eye appointment went splendidly. No change in my rx needed and that's good because the big E is even getting hard to see. So, I'm good there for another year.

Now the fun stuff.

We headed out to Loris for the 10 a.m. start of the Loris Library Yard Sale and Book Sale. I've been to several library book sales and they have been so crowded that you can't move. Well, not this one. Loris is a very small farming community and the library is small but nicely stocked. I started with the yard sale. Lorne got a brand new something or other for my computer (something to do with CDs). He is going to install it while I'm gone in September. I picked up several baggies full of odds and ends to use in my crafting projects. Then on to the books. People sure read of a lot of those romance novels. I just can't get into them. I did find an arm load of magazines and quite a nice stack, or 2, of paperbacks. I'm set in reading material for quite awhile now.

We returned to Myrtle Beach arriving on the north end of town. That is where our favorite burger joint is, Steak and Shake. Oh, it was good. We haven't been there for ages. I think only once since we moved into our new home south of town. We had stayed in the area at the Travel Park in our rv. I had forgotten how congested that part of town is. I'm ready to head home to nice quiet Murrells Inlet.

But, first, a stop at Myrtle's Market in downtown Myrtle Beach for some fresh produce. Several bags later we are off for home. The closer we got to home the less traffic we encountered. We had left the hustle and bustle of the tourist area behind us.

It was a very good day but it is always nice to be home.

Entry for August 07, 2008 - It's Been Hot and Stormy

Every afternoon, lately, we have been getting a downpour. They don't last very long but they can be pretty intense. It seems that we are getting more rain this summer than last year. This last downpour filled up the drainage ditch out front for the first time.

I finally got the pictures posted of last Saturday's Day in Conway. We had a very nice day. We arrived at 9 a.m. to see the Tobacco Heritage Display. There wasn't too much to see but it was interesting. They had demos on how to tie, hang and dry tobacco leaves. Outside of town the tobacco fields are beautiful. We toured their very nice museum. I overhead an older group talking of their childhood and working in the fields.

Our next stop was the Waccamaw River Walk on the other side of town. It was so cool and peaceful there. The river is very broad and slow moving at this point. They have a large shaded area where lots of festivals take place.

On our way out of Conway we stopped at a garage sale. The sale wasn't that good but the decorated fence across the street was worth the stop. This fence was at least a block long and decorated with ghosts, skulls, etc. This person must really like Halloween. I wonder what he does for Christmas, decorate the ghosts and things with Christmas lights?

Conway is only a few miles inland from where we live. But, at home, near the coast, it was 5 degrees cooler. That's a good thing.
