mothers day

sunday is mothers day. i don't know if it's an international holiday or not. but it should be. we take this one day out of the year to celebrate mom and all the love and joy she brings to each of us. so call her and let her know how much she means to you. and to all my friends who are mothers, i say thank you from every kid who had a scraped knee that was healed with a kiss. for every held hand at the doctor's office. for every time you chased away the monsters under the bed. thank you for your LOVE. i wrote my mom a poem for sunday. i'd like to share it with you.

MY MOTHER

By Robert H. Myers

Just a few verses

about my mother

one special lady

unlike any other

Drove off a bridge

split my head on a rock

I was laughing so hard

while she was in shock

Or the time I was holding

the second of three broken arms

the look on her face

was one of alarm

But an ocean of love

she always gives

whatever I do

wherever I live

You say “my mom’s great”

I’m still not impressed

because I’ve always known

my mom’s the best

Here at the end

only one thing to say

I love you mom

Happy Mother’s Day!!

that's right! the aussies have done it again. they won another cricket world cup. three in a row. first time in history. too bad the win was against sri lanka and not the poms. that would have been great. i wish i was down there with my friends, having a bbq and cracking a few cold tinnies with my mates. maybe next year!

our flag is at half staff. our collective hearts are broken. a river of tears flows across the country to a small town called blacksburg. another school shooting has taken place there, the worst in US history. as the days progress, questions will be asked. some will be awnserd.some will not. why wasn't the campus locked down after the first two victims? was the police response quick enough? what can we do to keep this from happening again? but most of all the one question WHY??? will go forever unawnserd because the reasons died with that south korean student. he was already troubled as witnessed by teachers and students. but nobody saw what was going to happen. they couldn't, they can't read minds. as in any event like this there are heroes and a villian. heroes such as the professer who survived the nazi death camps only to die in defense of his students. a villian who by some accounts was quiet and withdrawn. were the signals ingored? what can we do for those troubled like this? we will ask oursleves this question again and again. we will survive, we will go on. but we will always remember that cold spring day when so many worlds came crashing down. so mourn them, cry for them, but do not despair. a million prayers have lifted them up. the angels have spread thier wings. the gates of heaven are thrown open. a loud, clear voice is calling them home...

spring has sprung

hello friends. it's me again. it has been a while since i've written. this winter has taken it out of me. but all that cold and snow is over. there is a certian smell in the air. the breeze carries that green smell. the smell of new life, the world is being transformed once again. form the glaring, cold gloom of winter to the warm growing spring. everything seems to be coming back to life. the trees yawn and strech thier branches bursting with tender green leaves. the flowers raise thier heads in the soft endless rain to see what is going on. the robins, long a shure sign of spring, do their dance. chirping and jumping to and fro seeming to announce the coming of warmer weather. across the street in the small pond, a mother duck leads her ducklings into the water carving lazy circles in the surface. a man and his son are fishing on the bank. not so much to reel in a fish, but to catch a memory. a memory of time spent with the ones you love. the first time you cast a line, the first fish that makes the boy squeal with delight, showing him how to remove it from the hook and then releasing it to grow bigger. shining moments never to return but long remembered by both of them. a little girl on her first bike ride without training wheels. her mom holding on to the seat to cries of "don't let go!". but like all parents mom does let go, but only to sow the seeds of independence in her child. she knows she will have to let go someday for much longer than a second. but the joy of seeing her child free, face turned into the sun, handlebar streamers flapping in the breeze, laughing out loud will be her memory of this season. for me spring lifts my spirits. the feeling is hard to describe but we all know it. not so much seen or heard, but felt. have a wonderful spring everyone!
