Namaskara !! Yellarigu Hosa Varushada Shubhashayagalu !!!!

We are very happy to inform that the process of the construction of the school building has begun. It is a GREAT task ahead of us. Please visit http://picasaweb.google.co.in/sreeveenavidyaniketan to view latest photos.

We are very happy to inform one and all that from the next academic year i.e. June 2009, SREE VEENA VIDYANIKETAN will be known as JAIGOPAL GORADIA RASHTROTTHANA VIDYALAYA.

The decision to change the name has been arrived at to avoid all confusions about the discrepancy between the name of our parent organization ‘Rashtrotthana Parishath’ and our school and also to honour the great benefactor and philanthropist Shri Jaigopal Goradia of Chennai who has donated 1/3rd the amount for the school building construction.

EVENTS AND HAPPENINGS OF DECEMBER 2008 and JANUARY 2009.

http://picasaweb.google.co.in/sreeveenavidyaniketan/KrishnaJanmashtami2008

November 24 – December 1 : IIIrd Unit Test

December 6 : KAARTHIKA DEEPOTSAV

As last year, this year’s Kaarthika Deepotsava was celebrated with the lighting of 2020 clay deepas to signify the growth and the progress of our school up to the year 2020. The event had the wholehearted participation of the local citizens of Banaswadi, the parents, teachers, children and volunteers. It was a beautiful site to see all the 2020 lamps burning brightly and dispelling all darkness and spreading light.

December 8 – 15 : LITERARY COMPETITIONS

These competitions were held for all the children for all the classes. It included poem recitation in English, Kannada & Hindi, Sanskrit Shloka Recitation, Prayer Singing, Sangeetha, Nritya, Essay Writing and Creative Writing, QUIZ and Story Telling and Rhymes for the Nursery Section. The competitions are participated and thoroughly enjoyed by all the students. Each and every prize is highly coveted and there is a tough fight for each and every spot. It was very heartening to see the QUIZ being the most popular and keenly contested event of all and the program went into several tie-breakers to determine the first, second and third places.

December 4 : SPORTS DAY

Sports are an integral part of the student life of SVVN. The team events and individual events are all full of fun and excitement. At the same time it instills self discipline, team playing, sportsmanship, hard work and its rewards as also the disappointment at the end of the contest teaches these children to take both success and failure with equanimity and to work hard towards their goals and to treat each failure as a stepping stone to success.

December 20 : SCIENCE EXHIBITION

The annual Science Exhibition was held amidst lot of gaiety and fun. We were very fortunate to have Prof Raghavendra – Scientist Aeronautical Development Establishment ( a DRDE establishment ) as our chief guest. He spent a lot of time among the students, interacting with them and took a keen interest in the various experiments, posters and models that were put up by the children. The exhibition was further enriched by the presence of Prof Ramanathan – Scientist – DRDO, Selvam, Guruprasad and Uday of ISRO, Kiran of IBM and Prof Srinagesh.

· The section about Indian Institute of Science – Centenary Celebrations had the entire history of IISc, the entire span of Directors, famous Scientists, Famous Discoveries and Life and History of Sir Jamshedji Tata.

· The section about Indian Space Research Organization had in display the models of Chandrayaan, all the satellites launched by ISRO, famous Scientists, Achievements and Future Plans of ISRO and Future of Indian Space Research.

· The section on Sir Jagdish Chandra Bose had displays on the life, discoveries, inventions and achievements of Sir Jagdish Chandra Bose

The live demonstration of “How to launch a rocket” by Uday and Kiran was the highlight of the day and the children really enjoyed the very innovative and enthusiastic demonstration that was put up. It was hilarious to watch the “ROCKET : A Pepsi Bottle” getting stuck among tree branches, each time it was launched. But the ever active and industrious students of our school used to have a race of sorts to scamper up the tree and retrieve the bottle to its rightful owners. After two repeated occurrences of the above mentioned incidence, Uday and Kiran took the rightful decision and shifted the “Launch Pad” to the centre of the play ground. They also gave an A/V presentation on the same subject which was highly informative for the students and was immensely appreciated by the students, teachers and visitors alike.

The visitors were impressed by the depth of knowledge, fine grasping of the concepts and understanding of the subjects of our school students and predicted a very bright future to the students and to the school.

January 7th – 12th : IVth Unit Test

January 12th : Swami Vivekananda Janma Dinotsav : “National Youth Day”

The children were given talks about the life, teachings, philosophy, works, achievements and contributions of the great Saint, Philosopher and the ‘Wandering Monk’ Swami Vivekananda. His famous address at Chicago on September 11, 1893 and the impact the talk had on the western world was given a special mention. As much of Swami Vivekananda's writings concerned the Indian youth and how they should strive to uphold their ancient values whilst fully participating in the modern world, this is the most important lesson that we can ever teach our children in these times of violence and terrorism.

January 15th : Shankranthi

The Harvest festival of Shankranthi was celebrated with a lot of pomp and gaiety with beautiful and colourful Rangoli, Sugarcane and distribution of YELLU BELLA ( A mixture of Sesame, Dry Copra Pieces, Ground Nuts, Fried Gram and Jaggery Pieces ). The various customs and traditions associated with the celebration of the festival in the different parts of India, the importance of the day and the significance of the festival were explained to the children.

January 18th : Participation of our school children in the cultural programme conducted by “WINNING ASPIRATIONS”

Our school children participated in (1) DANCE : ‘Thodi Si Dhool Meri” – Rang De Basanti (2) PATRIOTIC SONG : “Mate Pujite” (3) One Act Skit : “Bhakta Prahlada”.

We are very thankful and grateful to the tireless, dedicated and committed volunteers of Winning Aspirations for not only giving an opportunity to our school children to participate in such an event but also going that extra mile in training the children in the dance item and also arranging a bus for their transportation to and from the venue. The program was very wel organized and was held at Maheshwari Bhavan, Rajajinagar Entrance, Bengaluru. Children from six other institutions for the economically challenged children took part in this lively program and had the most memorable time that we at SVVN are sure that the memories of which they will cherish for the rest of their lives. The program included a grand, sumptuous lunch, an entertaining cartoon show of Mickey Mouse and Tom & Jerry and a Quiz program. We are glad that it was very well supported and sponsored by many other IT companies and hope that our partnership grows by leaps and bounds in the years to come for the benefit of all these children who need but one chance to make their lives more successful and meaningful.

News Letter November 2008

NAMASKARA !! Yellarigu Shubhavaagali !!!

We are very happy to inform that the process of the construction of the school building has begun. It is a GREAT task ahead of us.
(32 class rooms, labs, libraries, toilets, staff and office rooms etc.). The school building (4 floors) is going to costRs. 325 Lakhs
T0tal Cost 0f running the school ( staff salaries and school expenditure ) for the year 2009 - 2010Rs. 25 Lakhs
Total amount to be raised by usRs 350 Lakhs
Amount we have succeeded in raising< 1/3rd total amt

In these times of economic meltdown and recession it is but natural for all of us to think of our jobs and financial safety. It is natural and basic human tendency to safeguard our own interests.
But for one second we request you to give a thought to think about the children of our school also. Put yourself in their shoes. Their parents are all daily wage workers. Most of them have lost their jobs as coolies, laborers, construction workers, masons, electricians, plumbers, drivers, shop assistants, peons, house keepers, cooks, waiters and maids. Even the 50% of children who used to pay our monthly fees of Rs. 150/- are unable to pay even that small amount now.
Under these circumstances, we have an added amount of responsibility on our shoulders to see to it that these children continue their education, are not pulled out of school and do not drop out and are not made to get into some jobs that adds to the family income. It is our responsibility to do everything within our means to help them continue their school and have a better future and do not fall back into the trap of poverty and deprivation. If we stand by them now, we will have done a great service to mankind and to our society.
So I beseech one and all, everyone who have been following the progress of our school, to come forward NOW. If you have ever wanted to do anything good to the society, if you have wanted to give back to your country, the time is NOW. Let us all rise above our own difficulties and our own problems and for a moment look beyond our own worries and lives. Let us also look at what is happening to our deprived and economically challenged brethren.
One small step taken by you and one small gesture will go a long way in making the lives of these children. The need of the hour is to wrack our brains and think out of the box. We have to inspire our relatives, friends, colleagues, superiors, subordinates, neighbors, cousins, brothers and sisters. We have to hunt for various groups like Kootas, Samajs, Sangams, Clubs etc and other such organizations that help good causes like ours financially. You have to take the initiative to get your company interested in our school. Your recommendation and patronage will go a long way in getting the organization to allocate funds to our school. Get them to visit our school, send them our literature and photos. Do everything you can think of to see to it that we get the allocation of funds. Whatever you have been thinking of doing anf planning all these years, the time has come for you to JUST DO IT NOW. ITS NOW OR NEVER.
ARISE, AWAKE AND STOP NOT TILL THE GOAL IS REACHED !!!! – Swami Vivekannanda.

It is a very happy day for us as it is a day to celebrate the greatness of Kannada, its thinkers, philosophers, writers, poets, dramatists and all the people who struggled for the language and for the formation of KARNATAKA state. It was made even more special this year due to the fact that KANNADA got its highly deserved and cherished CLASSICAL LANGUAGE Status.
The children are given talks by the head master and teachers based on NAADU NUDI BHAASHE. The Ancient History of Kanada, reorganization of states, formation of Karnataka, the important villages, town and cities, the great poets, writers and thinkers, the rich culture and heritage of Kannada and other such facts and information that goes a long way in making these children proud of their mother tongue, their roots and their country. MENTORING MINDS & SHAPING LIVES
The ANNUAL SCIENCE EXHIBITION, SPORTS, LITERARY and TALENT COMPETITIONS and ANNUAL DAY are events which give a lot of scope to us to mentor the children, mould them and prepare them for the competitions and in turn for life. These events shape their personalities and the small successes and encouragement that the children get during these events help them to face the bigger challenges that they will face in their adult life.
This is an opportunity for you to play a larger role in the lives of these children. You can take the initiative to train the children in various field of your expertise. It also gives us an opportunity to establish the various concepts of the subjects better in the minds of the children. The various topics are :
For SCIENCE EXHIBITON
Physics (Sound, Magnetism, Light & Electricity – Model Making & Experiments) Environmental Sciences - Global Warming and Climate Change, Disaster Management
Chemistry (Demonstration & Experiments) Biology ( Human Body, Frog, Earthworm & Coackroach - Models & Specimens)
For ANNUAL DAY : DANCE, ONE ACT PLAY & SINGING for ANNUAL DAY
FOR SPORTS DAY : SPORTS coaching and sponsorship of PRIZES and SCHOLARSHIPS

WINNING ASPIRATIONS www.winningaspirations.com
It is a very fruitful and satisfying association that SVVN has had with the 'WINNING ASPIRATIONS' team of very dedicated and committed volunteers. They started taking Computers, English, Maths and Science classes for all the children of IV, V, VII & VIII std and the children have been enjoying the classes and have been very enthusiastic about the lessons taught right from the beginning in June. More such partnerships between our school ans groups of individuals who want to give back their bit to the society will achieve our collective objective of a LITERATE INDIA.
Winning Aspirations is holding an Inter School competition in the third week of January and they have encouraged our School children to take part in it. One group of the dedicated volunteers of Winning Aspirations is training a group of students in a dance. Another group is training in singing. The third event that our tiny tots are taking part in is a dance drama by the little ones of U. K. G, I std and II std. It is a stage adaptation of 'BOMMANA HALLIYA KINDARI JOGI', a most beautiful creation and a classic by Rashtra Kavi 'KUVEMPU'. This piece, published in his anthologies of poem, in 1926, when he was pursuing M.A. in Central College, Bengaluru gained instant popularity and is still fresh in every Kannadiga's heart and mind to this day. We are sure that this piece will be the SUPER HIT of the program and will take everyone on a trip of nostalgia and back to their childhood. It is based on PIED PIPER OF HAMMELIN.
