I just finished the KISS Concert Stage Phase One. Its the stage with moveable drum riser. I've been working on the design for quite a while trying to work out some design and construction problems. I think it turned out pretty good for a first try prototype. My son loved it. Those are his KISS figures and instruments from his collection.

Phase Two that I'm now working on is the design and construction of the framework for the lighting towers and rigging, as well as the adjustable stage lights. I'm constructing the towers and rigging from 1/4" dowel rod and researching the materials for the stage lights. I've decided to make a revision in my original design and make 6 video screens to place between the 3 light towers. Its actually just flat black panels with 6 concert photos attached leaving a black border between them to look like video screens. This new design is from an idea I had for the Batcomputer. I recently did a sketch for another base I'm working on for the Batcave. The adjustable stage lights will be my first attempt at using lighting in one of my action figure bases. If I can find the transparency film I've been looking for I may try a set of screens backlit later.

Please take the Poll below to give me an idea of what types of designs you would like to see. Or drop me an email and give me your ideas. I'm always up for a challenge designing new base concepts. I've got 4 completely new concepts I'm working on now.

What type of base would you like to see?
Larger action figure base for more than one figure.
0
Smaller action figure base for just one figure.
0
HotWheels car bases.
0
1/24th Scale car bases.
0
Bases for 12" action figures.

Entry for June 03, 2008

Sorry about no updates. I've been swamped at my daytime job. I've been working on sketches for some new displays and display bases.

I've been stuck on a stage display for the KISS band since the first of the year. I'm still trying to work out the bugs. The lighting towers and light bar over the stage has been my major problem. When its finished I'll be able to make slight changes to the graphics and make stages for other bands.

The large shipping box for the larger action figure bases and 1/24th scale cars is basically done so I can get into selling on EBAY. So far all of my display bases for action figures and collector cars are one of a kind. Most are generic enough that I could make more than one, but I don't want to start mass producing and lose my creativity.

I'm working on a display design to hang on the wall for outer space and the sky that will make the action figure, spaceship, or airplane look like its hanging in midair with the display behind it.

I'm in design phase on a large display for Star Wars and the Transformers to house your collection in a hideaway giant prop. The larger airplane models and Movie/TV/Comic book props are in the prototype phase. I don't have anything finished for photography or for sale yet.

I do have a new action figure base idea that I've started designing graphics for of a cemetary. It should be adaptable to make several different types of bases. Should be great for Blade the Vampire Slayer, Scooby and Shaggy with the Mystery Machine, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and several other action figure sets. Maybe the horror actions figures would work for this one too.

All for now. Next time maybe some new photos or updates on EBAY sales.

Hey just finished the prototype Martinsville Speedway 1/24th Car Base. This is my second prototype since I gave the first one away as birthday gift to a friend. I'm working on a HotWheels scale and I've just finished the artwork. I'm still looking for a better croud scene and photos of other NASCAR tracks for the lettering on the crash wall. I'm also looking for victory lane photos so I can design a base for that. Anyone with photos I can use I'd appreciate an email or a link. Anyone with suggestions for new bases feel free to drop me an email. I just started working on some large scale models and props from science fiction TV shows and Movies. I'll post photos when I get some finished.

Thats all until next time.

I'm cutting back on local freelance work due to payment problems. Anyone needing freelance graphic design work, local or through the internet, will now have to pay through PayPal invoicing on completion of the assignment before the final files are emailed or mailed out on CD. I've had too many assignments this year that I've had to threaten calling a lawyer or the better business bureau to get paid. I've taken a fulltime job through a temp service designing web graphics to get the bills paid.

I'll be focusing my attention on the custom toy, prop, and display business now. The new Clifton Custom Toys logo is now complete and on returning from my vacation trip next week I'll be working on new designs for sale on Ebay. One of a kind custom display bases for action figures, HotWheels cars, 1/24th scale cars, movie and TV prop reproductions, and scale models. Several new designs I've been working on for children's furniture are in the design phase. The new 3ft. wall mounted, lightup buildings for decorating your home, office, or store are in prototype phase. I'm also working on some ideas for displays to hold whole collections of certain toys like Star Wars, HotWheels, and Barbie Dolls. I'll be posting new photos in the next month as soon as the new Macintosh is in and loaded.

Any requests for custom bases or toys can be directed to my email at Yahoo: georgeleeclifton@yahoo.com or leave me a message here. I do make bases and toys by request and issue a PayPal invoice on completion for payment before shipping. I will ship by US Postal, UPS, FEDEX, and motor freight if needed.

Entry for July 21st-HotWheels Show in Roanoke

I've been trying to post this since I went to the StarCity HotWheels Club show in Roanoke on July 21st. Please link over and check out the club at www.starcityhotwheels.com. The home computer has been acting up over the last month and finally gave up the ghost. So I haven't been able to post as often as I'd like to. I enjoyed the show. It was the first time that I setup to sell display bases at a local show (about 60 miles from Martinsville). I enjoyed talking to the people and making contacts with the Club members. I sold 5 of my HotWheels scale display bases. Five custom display bases at $20.00 each totaled up to $100.00 for the day, and I paid $10.00 to setup including lunch plus gas money from Martinsville. I made a couple of customs with the Club logo on them and sold one. Two of my new 1966 Batmobile bases went first. One was the simulated Batcave from the 1966 TV show, and the other was a simulated parking lot with a Billboard for the Batman TV show on a brick wall. I have to get time and build two more so I can take photos for posting. I also sold two more new designs. One was a regular old brick garage with steel door and the Monster Garage logo on the door in red. The other was a newer brick with steel door and a Chevrolet Racing logo on the door. With the designs I have left over from the show I was planning on getting started on ebay but things will now have to wait until I can afford to buy a new Macintosh. I'm glad I waited because the new models are coming out in August.

I've been sketching out some new ideas to work on including some wall mounted display cases for HotWheels and action figures. These go in an completely new direction in design and materials from my original display bases. There are also some new ideas for childrens furniture that I've been toying with. I'm experimenting with some new types of composite materials that look promising for future designs. The sketches for the wall mounted HotWheels collection display are almost worked out and now I'm playing around with the size issues. Its looking like around 4ft. wide for the first prototype. I have some more design work and engineering to do on the 7ft. tall Optimus Prime display case for Transformers. The same can be said for the 6ft. Gotham City Police Headquarters Building display cabinet for my Batman collectibles. The sketches are also in the works for a Star Wars display unit that looks like a Sand Crawler from the first movie. There a couple of composite movie props I'm working on that should be finished in about a month (photos to follow). New photos of toy displays as soon as I figure out how to download them to my work computer from my camera.

I finally finished the big freelance job I was doing for CPFilms Gila Products Division. I'm waiting on my paycheck now so I can get a new Macintosh. So I guess my design work will be on paper for a while until I get the new computer. I can still work on my new graphics during my lunch hour until the new computer comes in.

Thats all for now, and I'll keep you posted as much as I can.
