Parental Advice from Bill Cunningham

Here is some good ole parental advice given to me from radio talk show host Bill Cunningham.

This is an excerpt from an audio clip recorded July 12, 2007. I was referring to a guest who was
talking about how Harry Potter is the devil.

What if every church in America went bankrupt?
What if every church in America went bankrupt? magnify

I was  listening to a talk show on my favorite AM station, 700 WLW, and a caller said that gay marriages are just a plot to eliminate churches. He claims that if a church refuses to marry a gay couple, then that couple would in turn sue the church. And with all the pursuing lawsuits, it would bankrupt the churches. Nice theory, but it got me wondering about other scenarios:What if every church in America went bankrupt?

  • Would the crime rate sky rocket? I seriously doubt the people I've met during my 'Search for the Holy Male' crusade in church would turn their lives over to crime just because they didn't have a place to hang out twice a year. (Christmas and Easter Sunday) I will venture to say the common criminal is not found in the churches, but on the streets surrounding the churches.
  • What would happen to the churches and the land they occupy? The structures could be used for new businesses that can financially contribute back into the local communities and provide jobs. Furthermore, for the first time in over 200 years, the Federal government could start collecting property taxes on the millions of acres that are currently tax exempt.
  • What about all the billions of dollars in contributions given to the churches? Instead of the money going to the churches, which in turn use it in an attempt to keep Jesus and his story alive, that money could be used to purchase goods and services that would help stimulate the economy. It could be put into an IRA to help lift the burden of the tax payer when we get old and need to retire. It could be used to put a child through college. Hell, it could be used to purchase food and medicine to help starving, sick children all over the world.  Believe it or not, you don't need a church to be the middle man between your money and performing moral acts on other humans.
  • What about the 'social services' churches provide? Again, you don't need a church to teach morality and give advice on common day problems. Instead of a minister, priest, clergy, etc... giving their opinions  on what The Holy Babble says one should do, say or act, you could convert the churches into counseling centers staffed with certified psychologists, therapists and trained professionals. The answer to a question one asks regarding abortion, divorce, suicide, etc... should never start out with, 'The Bible says...." . Real people with real problems need real answers, not hocus pocus parables. You wouldn't send someone with a broken leg to the church for treatment, so why would you seek treatment for a 'broken brain' in the church?
  • Would Jesus go away? Probably over time, but not immediately. Or perhaps he would be replaced by a new savior. (guess who?)

Rebuttal to Z-MAN's comment
Rebuttal to Z-MAN's comment magnify
All do respect, Z-Man, but you are not the best representation of a Christian. You said you "would not be surprised to find some muslims in heaven." Well, correct me if I'm wrong, but Muslims don't accept Jesus Christ as their personal savior. Therefore, according to scripture ("I am the way the truth and the life; NO MAN cometh unto the Father BUT BY ME." -Jesus Christ, John 14:6)they CANNOT go to this place you call heaven. As far as me having faith, I have faith in gravity. I have faith in the mechanical and physical structure of the braking system on my car. I have faith that my heart will do what it is genetically designed to do. I have faith in these things because they don't fail me from day to day and they make sense. I CAN COUNT ON THEM AND THEY HAVE PREDICTABLE OUTCOMES. They can be explained. As far as having faith in 'God', you,re right. It does sound corny and crazy. There is no coherent proof or evidence except a book (I'm referring to the Holy Babble) with stories in it that would scare the shit out of a child; there are starving children, famines, violence, natural disasters, child porn, mothers drowning their babies in bathtubs, priests molesting children, etc, etc, etc. All these things that disgust me in life would not exist if I had the power to stop them. I'm sorry, but I cannot have faith or respect a supposed entity that would not do to my fellow man as I would, and that's relieve their pain. Ponder Epicurius for a moment, Z-Man:
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able?
Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing?
Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing?
Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing?
Then why call him God?
-- Epicurus
Your answer to this may be to say "the lord works in mysterious ways" or "we are not supposed to or cannot understand why god does what he does." To this I say fuck your sick, twisted, disgusting, malevolent god. My moral compass is tuned in just fine without his 'Great Book of Morality'. I see no benefit living a life just to kiss a god's ass. Your feedback is greatly appreciated. If you would like a more coherent savior, look into me. www.AtheistSavior.com
God Less You
Your Atheist Savior, Z-Man,
ScoT
p.s.- I can tell that you are a man of good, decent character. It would be a pity for someone like you to burn in hell for some pety sin you have committed. If you have any doubts Jesus won't except you, you may confide your sins in me. I'll take the burden of them to hell and burn for eternity for you, assuming there is a hell and I'm going to it.

God is Demographics
God is Demographics magnify
I am constantly baffled at the arogance of all people of religious faith. The real god at work here isn't in the clouds, he's on the ground in the form of something called demographics. Your geographical location on this planet ultimately determines what you believe, what language you speak and which God's ass you will be kissing. If you're born in the USA, chances are your religious beliefs will be of the same majority as the language you'll speak. America = English; America = Christianity. Your odds of believing in the Islamic faith are about the same as your odds of speaking Russian. Neither are taught or practiced enough here to learn. So why is it that Christians in particular think that their god and beliefs are accurate? Any would-be Christian born in a Afghanistan would have the same opportunity of learning about Christ as an Afghan born in the USA would have about learning Mandarin Chinese. YOU ONLY SPEAK ENGLISH BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT YOU WERE TAUGHT!!  YOU ONLY BELIEVE IN JESUS CHRIST BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT YOU WERE TAUGHT!!!  Remember, the quantity of believers does not justify the quality of the belief.
