Internet-based home business, holistic health. Insights, inspiration, motivation, tips & strategies
In my last post I had mentioned an experiment with blog and ping.
I had been using some software to post frequently (too frequently it seems) using the targeted term "blog and ping" (as you might expect). Blogger apparently has a system to detect blogs that are updated automatically and all posts require manual entry of the digits from a Captcha image. Additionally, although Google owns Blogger, only the home page is indexed in Google. MSN, Yahoo and Altavista however have indexed many of the posts as well.
Consequently I have moved the Blog and Ping blog to WebBizProfit.com and slowed down the posting frequency to several times a day. Previously this was set at once per hour which was more a misunderstanding of the way the autoposting software works since this was done with a Cron job.
Now I know from observing some of the content posted using the automation software on other topics that some of the posts are not especially relevant but with the blog and ping topic there is a goldmine of information.
So by all means visit the new Blog and Ping blog at WebBizProfit.com for the latest blog and ping strategies.
Here is another project I am working on related to blog and ping and getting blog traffic.
Blog and ping has been used recently to improve traffic to a blog by using ping services such as http://www.pingomatic.com .
This is a very new project for me so it will be interesting to see how that goes.
Here is the new blog and ping site: http://we-blog-and-ping.blogspot.com

Clearly it has been while since my last post so I thought I would get back to it for a period of time and see how it turns out.
I actually have quite a lot of blogging tools.
My favourite has been Nucleus which I use at http://www.webbizprofit.com for the Insights in Marketing web blog. In addition to that it also has served well as a content management tool and I use it for archiving the Success Journey Newsletter and also for posting articles in different categories and subcategories. Articles are here http://www.webbizprofit.com/articles (this is the internet marketing category) and also there are a range of personal development articles including articles by Jim Rohn.
Finally, Nucleus has been a great tool for posting inspirational and motivational quotes .
OK enough said about Nucleus. A more sophisticated and powerful solution (albeit more complex) as a Content Management System is Drupal . I am using Drupal at Vitality News which will be a large health related site that supports the Vitality News newsletter.
Drupal has a load of features and can do some really neat things like run multiple sites off one lot of code files. It also has the most sophisticated URL rewriting I have seen (not that I have used every CMS of course). It also compares very favourably with Mambo. I have previouly installed Mambo but never really got the full hang of it, mainly because I was using and learning Nucleus as well as the Nucleus templating system.
I came across this comparative thread at Drupal on a comparison between Drupal and Mambo. Although it has taken me a while to get the hang of Drupal (which is in fact easy to use out of the box) it is currently my preferred option for a CMS (especially since it is Open Source). I am also using Drupal as the code for Go This Way.NET
Over the last couple of days I also installed Word Press for a client. It is definitely an easy install (as is Nucleus by the way) but as usual there are some things that needed a fair amount of time to figure out in terms of tweaking. For example I need to edit the code to stop the automated br line breaks (which was a nuisance for email posts to the blog. Although I discovered where to comment out some code to fix this "problem" I stil need to check if the emails have the correct paragraph breaks (as opposed to the simple line breaks).
Finally there are a number of features of Geeklog that for me made it very simple to use in a members area using password protection for the installed directory. I prefer the forum layout to Drupal. Drupal has a threaded forum style whereas Geeklog's forum looks like it is derived from phpBB. I much prefer the forum style of phpBB; here is the official Geeklog forum.
Well apart form that lot (as if that weren't enough) I am also posting on Blogger as an update notification blog for Vitality News.
Even though this doesn't nearly bring me up to date it is good to post here again and let's just see what happens over the next while.

Well this is my first entry just to kick things off.
I am grateful to Matt of http://www.WebOfOpportunity.com for the invitation to get started with Yahoo 360.
