I AM ELVEN DARK MAGE MUWAHAHAHAHAHAHAH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
General things about this area and the stupidity behind the people who we allow to govern these areas.
H.P. Lovecraft was a Science Fiction Author from the early 1900's. His father suffered a nervous break down and later died, the cause was Neroshypilus. He himself had a breakdown in highschool. His love for Sci-Fi/Horror was brought about by his grandfather's love for the telling of strange gothic mythilogical stories. For those of you who have heard refrences to Cthulhu, or Call of Cthulhu, this strange horrific world was the work of H.P. Lovecraft. For those D&D Geeks out there, the origin's of the mind flayer (Illithid) come from H.P. Lovecraft's stories.
As a D&D Geek, and having heard refrences of the Horrific would of Cthulhu, and never having read any of these stories, I decided that I would look into this. I want to delve into the man who gave birth to horrific and wonderous things. I thought I could do so by going to the Local Public Library, and allowing my eyes to dine upon the mechanical etchings of this Science Fiction/Horror writer. However my thoughts were mislead, The Melbourne Public Library, doesn't have any books by H.P. Lovecraft. I was astonished at this, H.P. Love craft has several dozen books, he's a well renound author, with a fairly large fan base.
So, unable to check out a H.P. Lovercraft book, I began to ponder as to why the Melbourne Library would not have a single H.P. Lovecraft book. And thru my deductive reasoning I have come down to three reasons: Funding, Ignorance, or Censorship.
FUNDING: Melbourne Arkansas, located in north central arkansas, and the county seat for Izard County, only has a population of 1,600, so with that in mind maybe the absence of Mr. Lovecraft is due to the lack of funding for such a small library. Cosidering that maybe out of those 1600 people only 200 of them visit the library. Im sure that this has something to do with the Lack of Cthulhu upon the shelves of the small Melbourne Library, but I have to say that this is not the only factor.
IGNORANCE: Sadly enough I deal with this factor alot in living in this area. Ignorance and a Lack of Education haunts this area like stench on a rotting carcass. The misuse and "southern" dialect of the surrounding area gives birth to the miss-pronounciation of the words Katana (Ka Tay Na) and Melee (Mee Lay) is in my own thoughts appauling and astonsihing. I will admit that my grammar is not up to par by most english standards, but it far surpasses any standard that are inforced in this area. Why bring this up? because I believe that being poorly educated, either at home or in local schools, leads to ignorance on such things as literature, art, politics, and the such.
CENSORSHIP: This is a touchy subject with me, as I have face it time and time again in this area. I am a strong believer in freedom of speech, and all the forms it comes in. And living here I have come to learn that religion is one of the key factors of censorship exsisting in this area. While I was in highschool here, I was rediculed, lectured, and almost suspended, because of my music prefrences. Since christian highschool students, were told that marilyn manson and bands of his type were the work of satan, I recieved a lot of crap. So it isn't hard for me to believe that because of H.P. Lovecraft's some what blasphemous or sacreligious, as some from the religiously presuaded thought of mind would precieve it, instead of seeing it as Science Fiction. Censorship, is nothing more than a way to control our freedom of speech, a way to keep the weak willed under control, by not allowing the sheep to see whats outside of the field. Why do you think Hitler burned books in World War 2? because books cause a person to think, a person who thinks has a ideas, a person with ideas has beliefs, and a person who has beliefs is hard to control.
These are the reasons that I believe the Public Library in Melbourne doesn't have a H.P. Lovecraft book.
