Evil EMI captures PCHead and threatens to take over the whole town. Will everyone in Silicon Valley have to "high tail it" to the hills? Will Chiphead come to the rescue? Is there any hope on the horizon? We will have to wait and see as there surely will be a Showdown at DesignCon Corral.

When was the last time we truly stopped, sat... and did nothing else, but listen? Listen not just to what another person is saying, but to the sounds of our surroundings, our environment, our bodies. Too often we miss the subtleties of nature: The breeze through the trees. The leaves dancing in the wind. Even the humming and whining of distant cars making their way through the urban jungle.
And then the sound of our bodies. Each breath we take. The little pops and cracks of our bones. Even our heartbeat pumping tirelessly every moment of our lives.
When was the last time I was truly, relaxed? Setting aside the torrents of the day? Not worrying about the next deadline? The next meeting? The next crunch?
We've lost the art of... listening.
Our thoughts race through our daily confrontations. Never resting. Only being distracted by... new thoughts. New confrontations.
As I get older, my body starts to talk to me in ways I never understood... never even heard. The creaks are now pains. The breathing is more a sigh of relief. And my heart pounding says to "stop and rest awhile".
I now long for moments when I can stop and hear the subleties of life I've been missing all these years. Rather than just listening to the words being spoken, I might be able to hear the person who's speaking.
These sounds are now more music to my ears. The gentle symphony playing behind the backdrop of our daily grind.
It's always been there. You just have to listen.
Lose weight. Start exercising. Eat right. Quite smoking. Change my hair. Buy a new car. Call that friend "what's his name?". get a new job, get a job, go back to school, take a class, teach a class, play the guitar, take up golfing, quit golfing...
We've all made those mental resolutions. Or even verbalized them. Have we written them down? Perhaps. But actually doing them? Come on. If everyone in the world took that one tiny step towards improvement of humankind, this would be a great place to live. No?
Rather than giant "save the world" resolves, couldn't we take tiny steps towards perfection? Like ants moving a mountain, grain by grain. Eventually it moves. I'm sure somewhere those ants get their tiny satisfaction. And the world continues to evolve.
I've resolved to take those tiny steps instead of the giant leaps. Perhaps in a few years I might be able to look back and say "I've made some progress".
We'll here it goes.
Listen to one song I like a day.
Read at least one comic strip a day.
Before I jump in my car, take a deep breath and smile.
Let one tailgater go by and smile.
Write one "friendly hi" email a day.
More to come.
