Pam Sordet and Jeanne Oreschnick's Family Blog
Well, my Yahoo! 360 page is going away. I suppose its time to get a real blog page anyway. I'll be moving stuff over to wordpress shortly, so check out my new site:
There’s nothing like a good five-mile run to clear out the ol’ bowels (or it could have had something to do with the copious amount of cashews I consumed the day before). Regardless, I shaved five minutes off my time from the Eagan Fun Run 5-miler last year! It was cold and windy Saturday morning, and I actually kept my hoodie on (over a long-sleeved shirt) for the entire race. The gloves came off before mile 1 and the hat came off in the last ½ mile of the race. Jeanette did a great job too, finishing about a minute and half in front of me. I think we both have dreams of sub-10-minute miles. Then, despite the fact that Sunday was perfect weather for walking, or running, or biking, I did none of those things and just took it easy after my seven-mile trek on Saturday (I also walked the two-mile race with Amanda). This week’s workout routine includes the usual:
Monday: run and/or bike and/or walk
Tuesday: PT session – 20 min cardio, 40 min weights
Wednesday: 50-min Yoga, run and/or bike and/or walk
Thursday: PT session – 1-hour pilates
Friday: off day (I’m spending the day working on a habitat home)
Saturday: run and/or bike and/or walk
Sunday: run and/or bike and/or walk
Since it will be too warm out in the afternoons, I may forego running during the week and bike instead.
Speaking of which, I’m on the hunt for a bike trailer. I have a front-mounted seat for Jeanne that she and I both love. Unfortunately I found out when I took my bike into Erik’s for a tune-up, that my handlebar stem really isn’t long enough to safely accommodate Jeanne’s extra weight. So, either I have to find a longer stem, or go the route or a rear seat or burley-type trailer. Anyone have any used trailers I could borrow/buy?
I actually went and saw a movie over the weekend, Wolverine. And, I actually have plans to see Star Trek this coming weekend. Neither movie is one I would consider “my kind” of movie, but I’m trying to branch out. Wolverine was awesome, and not just because Hugh Jackman was half-naked throughout! Having never seen an X-Men movie, I didn’t know what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. Star Trek isn’t me either, but I’ve been hearing such good things about it. I worry though that I might not be able to follow it having never seen a previous movie or really watched the TV show. But, like Wolverine, it’s a prequel though, so I think it’ll be okay.
I was perusing through some of my old blog entries and found that Jeanne sat on the potty for the first time on May 30, 2008. That’s almost one year ago. Seriously, shouldn’t she have figured it out by now? I know, don’t panic. All kids get it in their own time. I guess I just want to be as supportive as possible, and I’m not confident with my efforts. I just keep fantasizing about a world without diapers. Sad that that’s a 33-year-old single gal’s fantasy, but alas, I am the mother of a toddler.
Jeanne’s sleep patterns continue to be f’d up. She’s been up at least once per night for a while now, and can’t seem to quite verbalize the reason why. There was one night last week, where the only time she woke up was at 11 pm, so I was still able to get a fairly full night’s sleep. But then the next morning Jeanne stormed into my bedroom at 5:30 am telling me to get in the shower. I guess I was smelly! She’s been what I can only imagine is a “normal” two-year-old. Whiney, bossy, and full of energy. Of course, last night (now that Mark’s on nighttime duty), she slept through the night.
I mentioned in my facebook status update a week or to ago that Jeanne had initiated the nighttime “I love you’s” for the first time recently, which of course melted my heart. Well, now I hear her saying “I love you” to her big red bouncy ball. Admittedly, I’m a little disappointed, but it’s still cute as hell to hear her talking to inanimate objects.
Yes, I know we need the rain, and yes it makes everything nice and green. But, why can’t it just rain at night and be sunny and perfect during the day? Looks like the rain should clear up by quitting time today, so hopefully Jeanne and I can get out and enjoy some nice weather before dinner. I’ve been without my bike for a week now, but at least it’s been pretty crappy weather-wise, so I haven’t missed too much biking time. The next few days look great though, so I’m planning on picking it up from Erik’s either tonight or tomorrow night. I took it in for its very first tune-up (bought the bike around 2000-ish) and I’m getting rid of the mountain bike tires and going with more street-friendly ones. I’m so excited!
Workouts continue to go well. I was pretty sore yesterday and am still sore today though. I doubled-up on the workouts on both Monday (1 hr yoga and 30 min intervals) and Tuesday (1 hr PT session and 1 hr bellydance fitness class). Yesterday I took a much-needed break. I actually think it was the yoga that put me over the top. I do a lot of stretching and am a pretty flexible person, but it’s been a long time since I’ve taken a yoga class. It was great! They’re being offered at work now, four times a week. Can’t beat that convenience. And, to top it all off, I’ve actually been eating well this week. Hopefully the weight loss will get easier with the summer weather.
Jeanne is a persistent little girl who frustrates and amazes me every day. She continues to sleep pretty well, but potty training is still hit or miss. Mostly miss. She is still mostly sleeping in her rocking chair, but I figure as long as she’s sleeping in her room somewhere and not in mine or Mark’s bed, I’ll consider that a good thing. Last night she impressed the crap out of Mark and me when she said “Monster’s Incorporated” very clearly and distinctly. Her attention to detail, and comprehension and retention skills are astounding. Guess its time to stop listening to 93X when she’s in the car!
Just signed up for the Eagan Fun Run on May 16. I wasn’t quite thinking it was a whole five miles. Sheesh. I’ll have to get my butt in gear. A 5k would be no problem at this point, so it shouldn’t be too difficult to get myself up to snuff. Maybe I should find a 5k or 4 miler sometime between now and then? Planning again this year to do the South of the River Recreators Ground Pounders Series, though I’ll be missing the June race due to my cousin’s wedding in Duluth. When practical, I’m also planning on walking the short run with Amanda and then running the long run with Jeanette. And, whoever else may join us on either. I’ve been keeping pretty active, though not focusing on running. I’ll have to start focusing more on running. This is how my workouts for this week have looked so far:
Monday – 20 min bike ride with Jeanne
Tuesday – 1 hr personal training session, including 30 min of cardio, 20 min of weights, and 10 min stretching. 1 hr bellydance fitness class.
Wednesday – 45 min walk with Jeanne (in a stroller)
Thursday – 1 hr personal training session, including 20 min of cardio, 30 min of weights, and 10 min stretching. 40 min bike ride with Jeanne.
Today – Probably another bike ride with Jeanne.
Tomorrow – Longer (4+ mile) run
Sunday – Bike ride and treadmill intervals
See, I’ve been kicking ass on the workouts! But I keep wondering, how do I know how much to eat in order to fuel my body, but still lose weight? I haven’t been eating the best, and I want to do better. My excuse right now is that I don’t want to underfuel considering how much working out I’ve been doing. Any thoughts?
