we had a pretty uneventful flight [dec 9th]. we could have made it all the way
to wellington in 22 or 23 hours but we missed our flight from
auckland, we were able to catch the next flight in an hour though. in
our rush to get through customs an auckland we had to abandon waiting
for the stroller to come out but we were able to get it sent to us
today.
jasper slept 75% of the time we were on all flights so that was pretty
fantastic. we sat next to a family from england that had 6 children
from 15 to 10 months. the 10mo old was a girl named wallis, whom I
kept mistakenly reffering to as "he". Jasper and her were pretty good
friends and we got to talk to wallise's mom quite a bit.
the weather is 50-70s most times windy, sometimes rainy. our new
house is pretty good. is built in the art deco style and has very
large rooms.
Jasper got to crawl in the grass some and is crawling everywhere and
getting into everything he shouldn't
we went to the warehouse today to start accumulating stuff, and we
need a lot of it. One is so helpless without a screw driver and
pliers!
Hi friends and whanau.
Yes, today, 4 months ago I gave birth to our rascally son, Jasper. He is currently under a blanket on the floor in the lounge with his Dad and they are playing like they are in a tent. Jasper loves it and is talking about it a lot. We love him to pieces.
We are getting things together and trying to get more organised for coming to NZ on the 9th December. We are filled with apprehension, excitement and nervousness. Excited to be starting a new phase of our lives and nervous about leaving all of this, our St Louis selves, behind.
The weather here is just starting to become crunchily delicious. Crunchy because the leaves are starting to fall and I love to step on them and have the satisfying sound of it under my foot. Jasper has started to wear long sleeved tops and a Buzzy Bee woolly hat. I love it.
Over and out.
Jane.
ps...i will try and get some new pics up.
xx
yes i know i have been slack in getting things up and running but with a bit of a kick in the pants from 'ana, here is what has been happening.
the heat here in st louis is bloody mental. this last week hasn't been diabolical but overall this summer has been hard, somewhere inside the air conditioned, artificial air is a place we are trying to seek out a lot, at least me and mum...jezza is a bit used to this kind of weather growing up in much hotter rural Kansas...our electricity was out for 7 days due to a fat storm that strode up and bashed us pretty hard out...trees were (and still are) down all over the city. a massive lamp post went down at the end of our cul de sac and I don't think it has been fixed as yet. a huge branch fell on top of it and knocked it for a 6.
jasper is having a kip at the moment. I think and hope anyways. he is so funny and a real scalliwag. he is talking all the time and smiling and laughing and i want to crunch him so hard that i am afraid of hurting him sometimes...his thighs are getting lovely and dimply and chunky.
jeremy may have to look at getting another job in the last three months that we are in the U.S. which pretty much sucks...the place he is at says there are cash flow problems or something bollocks like that. oh well, we have real trust that Jesus has a plan for us.
NZ is beckoning and for that I am intensely hopeful. I want to go fishing off a wharf somewhere, I want to swim in the Pacific ocean ( I haven't seen it for almost 3 years! imagine a Kiwi not seeing the sea all this time!!??!) and I want to play cricket on the beach, want to walk to the dairy to get the paper, have fish and chips on a Friday night with lashings of vinegar and tomato sauce and I can't seem to get Burger Wisconsin out of my head. They have the utterly BEST chips in the world with either satay sauce or garlic or bleu cheese sauce...oh, I am fully salivating at the moment. I remember a huge as a dinner plate chicken avocado bacon burger. dreamy....mmm.....i can't wait for Jeremy to live in nz and experience all these things without the expectation of being a visitor and leaving after a week and a half after a whirlwind visit of not really being able to just relax and hang out or watch tv for a night...you know? ahhh...such niceness.
jasper isn't actually asleep right now. i can hear him yakking to himself in his cot.
jeremy will be home soon and i bought him a little journal with a wedge of cheese on the front. cheese is one of his favourite things in the world.
mum is leaving on the 30th august to head back to the uk to travel around with aunty cynthia for a while and then she is going to see and experience auschwitz...holy cow i would be a mess. i would walk around and just sob. it will be really interesting to hear what mum's reaction will be to be there...she has Jewish heritage, her granddad was a latvian jew so there is some intense sensitivity there I guess...it has been magic having mum here. i have loved it. i will miss her but the next time i see her will be in nz...yay...super.
see you all,
jane.
