How much glam can you all stand....LOL! Hope to see you there!
Wow, hard to realize you can cram so much into three days. Got a surprise phone call and an invite to DJ at Spektrum Friday night. The regular DJ had a commitment so I said I would. Been awhile since I was in the booth so it took a few minutes to get things right. Got all my gear hooked up without incident and got to spin'n. I use Stanton Final Scratch and it is really great. The digital age is upon us and this was one of the premier systems. There was a show and for a change the music was all in the right order. That has been a big pain in the past shows. Kept playin' till almost 3 am. It felt good and I see some things I need to work on before I do it again. I sure do miss not being there.
Saturday, GForce and I went up to Greensboro to Warehouse 29. Janice and the TransCarolina group were there holding one of their regular get togethers and also had a pageant organized. It was good to see them all and turns out a lot of old friends were there, too. Many of the staff also perform and I've seen them at Spektrum many times before. I was really amazed at how nice the place was set up with flat screen monitors everywhere and all hooked up to the DJ video system they were using. It's a dream setup and one of the things we've been trying to get them to try at Spektrum for a long time. One day they'll get out of the stone age.
I've mentioned my attempt at beer brewing. Well, I finally was able to bottle my first batch. Fermentation took longer than anticipated, but I figured out what the culprit was. Temp is a factor and I had it a few degrees cooler than I needed. Doesn't hurt anything just prolongs the process. I checked the keg Sunday and conditions look right. Color was a nice clear amber. Yeast colonies were completely vanished and fermentation bubbles weren't visible at all. A test showed it had the required flat taste and didn't appear sweet. Now all I had to do was add a small amount of sugar and bottle it to start the carbonation process. This should take about a week. I'll watch the temp a little more closely to keep the process on a better track. By Sunday I should be able to stick it in the fridge and start the "Lagering" process. It's drinkable after a couple of days, but keeping it longer actually improves the taste from what it says. Stay tuned.
Anybody try making their own beer before? Guess we've all heard the funny stories of the attempts. Did you know that by law you can brew 200 gallons a year for personal use? That sure is a lot of beer for personal use.....LOL! I found Mr. Beer on Ebay and went to their website. Wow! Was this ever an interesting place to look through. Had me convinced so I went and ordered a full set of tools to brew a few batches on my own. Simple receipes can be ready in as little as 2 weeks and others can take several months. Guess if you were really into this stuff you'd need a really big fridge...LOL! I looked through the instructions several times and determined what additional items I needed and finally sat down and brewed up my first batch last night. First time for anything is a learn as you go process. I already know I need a different pot to mix the ingredients in so I'll be going shopping before I do another batch. Keep posted and I'll let you know how things turn out.
