Ethinylestradiol, also ethinyl estradiol (EE), is a derivative of estradiol (estrogen). [動情激素/雌激素]
EE is hormonally effective by activating the estrogen receptor and thus is an estrogen.
Estinyl was a preparation of EE alone that was used for the management of female hypogonadism.
Estradiol: a female sex hormone that is involved in the development and maintenance of the female reproductive system
Estrogens (alternative spellings: oestrogens or œstrogens) are a group of steroid compounds, named for their importance in the estrous cycle, and functioning as the primary female sex hormone.
Estrogens are used as hormone replacement therapy for transwomen.
Like all steroid hormones, estrogens readily diffuse across the cell membrane; inside the cell, they interact with estrogen receptors.
The three major naturally occurring estrogens in women are estradiol, estriol, and estrone.
From menarche to menopause the primary estrogen is 17β-estradiol.
Premarin, a commonly prescribed estrogenic drug, contains the steroidal estrogens equilin and equilenin, in addition to estrone sulfate.

Norgestimate is a form of progesterone [黃體素], which is a female hormone important for the regulation of ovulation and menstruation.

Spironolactone (marketed under the trade names Aldactone, Novo-Spiroton, Spiractin, Spirotone, Verospiron or Berlactone) is a diuretic and is used as an antiandrogen.
Due to its anti-androgen effect, it can also be used to treat hirsutism, and is a common component in hormone therapy for male-to-female transsexual and transgendered people.
It is also used for treating hair loss and acne in women and can be used as a topical medication for treatment of male baldness.
Adverse effects and interactions
Spironolactone is associated with an increased risk of bleeding from the stomach and duodenum, but a causal relationship between the two has not been established.
Since it also affects steroid receptors elsewhere in the body, it can cause gynecomastia, menstrual irregularities and testicular atrophy.
Other side effects include ataxia, erectile dysfunction, drowsiness and rashes.
A carcinogenic effect has been demonstrated in rats.
Spironolactone has been shown to be immunosuppressive in the treatment of sarcoidosis.
People using this drug should avoid salt substitutes containing potassium.
Carcinogenicity
Studies of spironolactone and the related compound potassium canrenoate (which, like spironolactone, metabolizes to canrenone) in rats for one to two year periods show an increase in carcinogenesis in the thyroid gland, testes, liver, breasts, and myelocytic leukocytes. Mammalian cells, depending on the presence of metabolic activation, show mixed results for mutagenicity in vitro.
In light of this research, Sandoz has recommended that unnecessary use of spironolactone be avoided.

Dear all:
Happy New Year of 2007. It's very busy on 2006.
I am working on my journal papers. Hope every thing will be fine.
It's so cold in Taiwan now. Did anybody can give a good/beautiful warm coat?
