April 15, 2005 - a wonderful day
April 15, 2005 - a wonderful day magnify

This is me being accosted by my housemate Mags Leddy.

So, erm, what to talk about???

To learn a bit about me, go here http://irish.typepad.com/photos/faces4/catherineobrien.html.

I know this is meant to be a blog entry for today, but I don't want to talk about today 'cause it's been the biggest disaster ever - just don't get me started, you see, firstly I rang to book a doctors appointment - time to renew my yearly anti-histamine prescription (hay fever would muller me otherwise), seemingly those wonderful people could only fit me in at half eleven - which wouldn't have been a problem if I wasn't frantically trying to finish an assignment for Interpersonal Communications, the final deadline being at half twelve.

Anyways, I accept the inevitable and I hand in the assignment 157 words too short, then I hurry down town as fast as my stubby little legs will carry me. Upon my arrival I realise I have to go to the bank first, where I discover that due to my frivolous charity donations, my account is now overdrawn. I can’t afford the doctors fee and I can't top up my now creditless phone to ring and cancel the appointment. In sickened rage, I storm back up to the college to meet Corey (who's Corey?, take the link above), only to be told there that he already left to meet me after my appointment (which has well expired by this time), I use Mags’ phone to ring him, naturally my dearest is back down in town - how fabulously wonderful!!!

So twenty minutes of walking later, I meet him at his digs, he insists I try to make another appointment, so I do and succeed – this being at about one o’clock (when they apparently couldn’t fit me in earlier - grrrrr). Corey lends me the doctors fee, I get the prescription, things are actually going well – so well, that the doctor asks if there’s any other medication at all that I’d like to be prescribed (for the record, I declined J). Smiling and happy, we back to the town, Corey in a bid to feed his addiction, heads to the nearest music shop “I really really want that cd” he sighs, pointing to some Radiohead album “I’m gonna buy it for the bus journey home”. I laugh and tell him that its just another of his fads, I suggest going to the chemist to pick up my prescription first, and then if he still wants the cd we’ll come back for it afterwards. Corey said ok, so off we went to the first chemist.

“I’m afraid this particular drug isn’t in stock at the moment, you can try around town, but I doubt you’ll get it anywhere.” I looked at her with her big syrupy grin and wondered how she was going to sleep that night. Second chemist, same thing but they went on to tell me that they would ring my doctor to have him name a suitable alternative. He had just left on his lunch break. I couldn’t help but laugh in the poor woman’s face, she wasn’t very impressed and told me rather rudely to call back in just over an hour. Corey and I head back to the music shop, the album is gone, yes it was their only copy, no they won’t be getting it in again soon. Corey looked like he was on the verge of tears, I felt more than a little bit guilty. We checked all the other music shops, apparently it’s a rare disk and quite the find, none of them stock it. Argh!!!!

We walk around for a bit more, then head back to his digs so that he can pack. His bus leaves at three, that gives us just enough time to go to the chemist and get to the bus station. I’m kept in the chemist for over twenty minutes, Corey has to go half way through so I promise I’ll catch up and say goodbye. The alternative medicine costs over eight times more than the original – I am not a happy bunny. I leave the chemist a take off in a half run half walk for the bus station, my legs hurt, I’m tired. The sun is glaring in my eyes, but the breeze means that I’m freezing. What a great day.

I do make the station before his bus, and I do get to say goodbye – although I’m not sure if he understood any of it due to my huffing and puffing due to the lack of oxygen reaching my brain. I’m at college again now, and Ciaran just asked me why I was bothering to write all this down, so I kindly explained that either I complain about my day through this blog or I complain about my day to him.  Tut, some people, eh. I’ve never seen him run so fast.
