My recovery from the appendectomy has been slow but steady over the last couple weeks. I worked full days in the office last week, but tire easily.

I had a chance to operate a remote base over the Internet yesterday. The station I operated is in Connecticut. Audio to and from the radio is handled via Skype, and control of the radio is done by software running on a computer at the station location that I log into remotely. Lots of fun, as long as the Internet connection holds up OK.

Congrats Are In Order
I want to shout out congratulations to a couple people.

Alex Wimmers, sophomore pitcher for Ohio State, threw a no-hitter yesterday in a 6-0 victory over Michigan. The Bucks are in the hunt for a Big Ten regular-season championship with plenty of competition from three other teams.

Also, Bonnie's Mother had a $2 bet on "Mine That Bird", the long-shot horse that won yesterday's Kentucky Derby. The win paid $103.50. Don't spend it all in one place, Tootsie :-).

My experience as an "Appy"
In medical jargon they call them "Appys", people who need an appendectomy. I joined the ranks over the weekend.

Had bad stomach pain starting mid afternoon on Saturday. I called Bonnie, and she came over and took me to Good Samaritan ER. They gradually went through tests and came up with the diagnosis after a CAT-scan. My appendicitis was somewhat unusual in that the appendix was not near the surface, giving me no tenderness in the "usual spots".

In the wee hours of Sunday morning an ambulance transferred me a couple blocks to the UK main hospital, where they did the surgery at 4:30 AM. It was my first ambulance ride and hospital admission. Monday night about 7 they released me, and I have been resting at home ever since. A followup appointment with the surgeons on Tuesday morning.

I met a lot of great doctors and nurses at Good Sam and at UK. Both seem to be fine institutions.

Entry for April 25, 2009
Game 4 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals was a sight to behold, although Detroit scored with 45 seconds to go to win 6-5. Michael Arace of The Columbus Dispatch wrote a blog entry that describes the game much better than I ever could, and you can read it here. It has to rank among the top 5 or so sporting events I've ever attended. The crowd did its job in supporting the home team.

That's it for me and sports for several months. It is hot here now, and I've got a lot of stuff to do.
