Hot Springs Arkansas Trip was great - Hotel was horrible

My husband wanted to surprise me for our 6th wedding anniversary. He wanted to take me somewhere nice. So he thought a hotel downtown in Hot Springs with a massage and spa would be the place. He picked Downtown Hotel and Spa. He bought a package deal for Romance package for two nights was $499. We arrived Friday afternoon around 530 pm. The room was supposed to be ready around 4 pm.

We got to the hotel and checked in. One elevator was messed up so there was only one elevator for all the floors working. We were supposed to have gifts waiting in the room. we had a bottle of cheap champagne and dirty champagne glasses. Then in the bathroom there was a dirty, used, nasty poof ball for the shower.

He went to the front desk and told them our room was not set up for the romance package. They said that they would fix it. We watched some tv for about an hour and decided to go to the magic show. Before we left we stopped at the front desk and told them that nobody had been up to our room to fix the romance package. They said when we got back that it would be done.

We left and went to the magic show and out to eat. It was about 1 am when we got back to the hotel. We got back to the room and still nothing had changed.

We went down to the front desk and I asked what was supposed to be in the package that he paid so much money for. I was told champagne, glasses, box of chocolates, lotions, candles, and bath items. The hotel clerk gave me a couple soaps and candles and said that was all she had back there. That she would inform the people who set up the rooms. This was the third time of telling them that stuff was not set up like we had paid for.

The next morning (Saturday) we went to the buffet that was in the restaurant in the hotel. We waited in line to get food that wasnt even the temperature it was supposed to be. The hot stuff was barely warm and the cold stuff was hot. There were gnats flying around the fruit. The only thing that even tasted half way decent was cereal with milk that wasnt even cold. Needless to say we didnt eat at the buffet the next morning.

We had a massage and bath for 2 in our package deal. We tried to go Saturday but they said that they were booked up and we would have to wait until Sunday. The front of the massage place was being remodeled. So it looked nice. When you get back to the back it is very old. The bath is way too hot. Then going for the massage you have to walk through the hallways to another room. They are doing construction and there is no carpet down but I guess they are preparing to put it down. I stepped on a tack on the floor!! OUCH!! No shoes on!! It hurt!! The massage was ok. He did something around my neck and after the massage I had a headache. I have had massages before and didnt get a headache from it! This time I did.

For $500 package deal we paid for 2 nights I would have much rather stayed somewhere else. The sights around Hot Springs were great. The hotel sucked!! We never received anything else that was supposed to be in our romance package. So the $500 was a rip off!! I enjoyed Hot Springs sights and places to go!! Next time when we go back we will stay in a different hotel!!


When we werent in the hotel we had a great time. We went to the Maxwell Blade theater of magic and it was great. Most of the stuff he did I have seen on Criss Angel Mindfreak but it is still awesome to see.

Saturday night we went on a dinner cruise on the Belle of Hotsprings. This was very romantic. The food was ok for what we paid. It was overpriced. But we mainly paid for a romantic night out.

Overall we had fun at Hot Springs when we werent in the hotel. I wouldnt reccomend staying at this hotel to anyone. But seeing Hot Springs Arkansas was great!! There was more stuff there than we could do in 2 days. When we go back we will stay at somewhere other then the Downtown Hotel and Spa. I would rather stay anywhere then there!!
