You held me in your hands for the first time and smiled.
You bathed me so lovingly, when I could barely lift a hand.
You watched over me so eagerly like there was no other.
You bent over, and sprained your back, but still picked me up.
The look in your eyes when you taught me that prayer.
You showed me the meaning of faith.
You told us how to be ourselves, while still loving you.
You saw us grow taller than you, and saw the future in the now.
You begged us of things we would have gladly done without being asked.
You grinned when we had done what you had asked us to, with the mandatory Thank you.
You confused me for him, and him for me, but you knew exactly who we were.
You waited longer than you should have, every other day for us to come home.
You fed us so adoringly even though we wanted no more.
You lead us along, even though we thought we were old enough to lead.
You helped us realise that we're never old enough.
You were the grandest of all, grandmother.
You shed the tears when you lost what was your own, as we watched the pain of it all.
You pointed out the importance of everything, as we took it for granted.
You tried to tell us your future, you had the perception, we had the illusion.
You saw what you never wished to and fell down, but picked yourself up.
You fought for yourself, and only asked for us to help you stand again.
You witnessed everything that made you wise.
You never ever needed a book to tell you how smart you were.

You shied away from all the insult and faced the world still.
You bled as we watched, and assured us in that state that you would come back home.
You woke us up from our deep slumber, even when you should have been asleep.
You gave us reason to battle and fight for ourselves, but never stand alone.
You brought us together, for you, for your soul, and for your life.
You are amazing, and you always will be.
You wanted to come home, after all that brutal fighting.
You were tired, down. But not out.
You left us with all that you stood for. Only your soul deserves better than heaven.
You made us what we are.
You gave us everything in your love and support.
You smiled for all of us, through the pain.
You laughed even when it hurt your insides.
Truly, the disease didn't hurt you, you hurt the disease.
You are the grandest of all, Grandmother.
Thank you for being who you are.

The Goal
He stepped up to the white line, wishing that this would be easier than what they told him it would be. A silent prayer to the sky later, he found himself running meters at length, and without his legs having to bog him down every other minute. It felt so alive.

The cold wind spurred him on even more, as his prayer seemed to have been semi-answered by now. He knew there were a million eyes watching him even when his own refused to do the same. His grace startled even the toughest of marksmen, leading to the belief that it would be impossible to halt this force tonight.

He sifted through the defensive line of the opposition, but was felled but two intersecting antagonists. He fell, but got up the next instant, ball at foot, wondering why the referee had awarded him a free kick for the opposition's hefty fall.

He looked heavenward again. Solace. He ran past some more, strung a few far-fetched passes and made believe what was thought to be make-believe. The connection between his foot and ball seemed to be off a few notches. So he kept trying. The smooth waltz across the halfway line led him astray to a few friends, and to a few other contenders for the shiny white ball so easily tamed by his skill.

Then, it came across a wide distance, as he judged it calling him out, waiting for his reaction. Almost a challenge of sorts, just that it was too easy. It called out only to him, and he nodded, and obliged. The connection had been made. Ball placed firmly between his hand and body, he held one hand in the air, and sent his thanks above.

And then to the numberless nameless friends of his, sitting, watching, waiting, hoping, praying for him all along. He signaled. Closed his eyes, pointed both index fingers up above, and walked away, with everything intact.

There's a Bat

I was surprised by how big a Hindu temple in an Islamic state can be. It was delightful to having borne witness to one of the tallest idols of a Hindu god in the world. The night was epileptic almost. With bright lights sparkling everywhere, a glint couldn’t have been eluded.

The long, arduous flight of stairs to the top, represented several faiths and beliefs. One foremost principle being that one must always tire to reach their destination. Without which, the journey and the destination become pointless. I climbed a flight of 272 steps without stopping even once. He view from above was more than magnificent.

The caves, were typical. The only difference here was that there was a temple in a cave. Which was an oddity to me. Well light, and decorated with idols and nocturnal creatures, the caves were a thrill. The sight of the darkened cityscape provoked much more thought.

As we descended, the moon showed it’s face. Full and as bright as ever. Shining through clouds and the night sky. Moving from one spot to another, it ducked behind the ghastly clouds for one moment, only t emerge even more luminous out of them. Truly a sight to absorb.

As we left the larger-than-life statue, I looked up in the sky, and all I wanted to find was the moon. And that face in it.

Onward to the Clouds
Onward to the Clouds magnify
A land of beaches, temples and broken down cable cars. The city of Penang we decided, was quite a fun trip. The bus journey there was rather extravagant, with the inclusion of plastic hostesses. And a poorly translated version of what appeared to be a famous Chinese movie. It almost made me throw up in disgust. The city was abundant from our hotel room. And as we attempted to dissect the city into places that would interest us, we chose the Kek Lok Si Temple as our ride for today. The temple was vast and bountiful. The generosity with which it was built was apparent. A view from above, told me everything I had in mind about Penang. Straight from the Closed cable care junction to the never ending beach, every bit was covered.

We retired to our hotel room for the rest of the day, watching some strange English action movie to kill time. The dinner at an Indian restaurant promptly reminded me of a gourmet one back home. Only more colouring added here, I thought. Although most of the streets were thoroughly sprinkled with sea food, and other various creatures, the hotel seemed exquisite. Every street corner we turned, we noticed the pungent odour of something so vile, that the human eyes mustn’t be treated to such a sight. Doing so, would mean worse torture than having to bear with the stench.

The beach was an early fare the next morning, from a quick-talking Chinese man. I think the Chinese were meant to talk fast English. Otherwise they’d be pretty darn behind the world right now. The beach, there wasn’t a line over the horizon. Just clear beaches, with the infinite wisdom of the ocean stretching beyond imagination. The parasailing experience was once in a lifetime. Being held up above the water so delicately, and yet so treacherously.

The waters were clear green, and our shorts were plain dirty. We went back to the hotel room, losing time, amongst other things. The time had come to pack up and ship out of Penang. And we did, blabbering to myself incessantly over what was lost. Finally, the bus ride back to he mainland of KL was squeaky, to say the least. The bus driver had a large mirror in front of him, to be able to keep a rack of what each passenger was up to. Most of us were trying to sleep. But the noise emanating from the bus seemed more than just annoying.

When we finally reached, the night greeted us, with it’s bright, blinding lights. It was welcome in some way or the other. To embrace the night after a long day.

To Genting Highlands and Beyond
To Genting Highlands and Beyond magnify
Not a very early morning is the kind I like. Mammoth clouds, still gracing the skyline, moving past the suburbia deeper into the farther away land. We noticed several others on the train to the bus station. The bus would take us to Genting Highlands. An apparent entertainment destination for the entire family. And on Labour Day weekend, what else could one expect, but for the gathering multitude.

The car brought us to the train station. The Train bought us to the Bus stop. The bus got us to a cable car. And the cable car got us to the Highlands. The slow climb uphill suspended in time and air. While the cable car’s mechanical silence was nice to listen to, the multi coloured languages babbling in and out seemed akin to the rainbow brook. We stepped into the clouds, and the chilly air of second thought crept in gradually. It was ultimately dismissed by the grounding on the destination.

There were seizure inducing lights everywhere, and the escalator ride up and down made it seem like we were already in a theme park. Just a little less fun I think. The clouds loomed large over every part of the theme park. A sudden outburst of rain provoked one and all to abandon thought. Everyone was running helter-skelter at speed. The Space Shot was the ride of the day, more so because we were able to take on only two rides the entire misty day. We were reaching heavenward, just for a glimpse, only to be let down at super speed. A terrifying minute suspended in vortex speed gravity. All the screams are meaningless and forgettable.

The cold breeze inspired third thoughts, as our head and body were dunked in the clouds. Visibility reduced to almost negative, and one assumes that the glorious sound of Children’s Laughter kept the clouds from breaking again. An balloon artist particularly impressed me. He made the demanders air tight balloons of anything they wanted. Unfortunately they were still just balloons in my eyes.

After some roaming around, and discovering London in Genting, we took part in the long line ride to the cable car that would take us down. A return to the lights. As the darkness and cloudiness engulfed our cable car, the searching and inching towards the light at every point was memorable. It was like a far away light was the savior.
We reached ground after a long time. And as we passed by again, the white clouds over Genting seemed like a sandwich, with the black hills as the filling. And the never ending skies just playing a canvas to the portrait.
