Winter has arrived. I miss my Hummingbirds.
I love hummingbirds. Mainly the Ruby Throat. Other interests would be my dogs and farm animals.
Well all my hummingbirds have headed south for the winter. I still have a feeder out and will through the winter...just in case. We had our first frost and freeze last night. I brought some plants in as I just couldn't stand that the beautifully blooming salvias would die. Even with no hummers to enjoy them, I can hope that a thirsty rufous will stop by for a sip and see the salvias. But those dreams will have to do me for the next 5 months until my Rubys show back up from their toasty vacation in Mexico.

Check out how the HLC Chat Party went on Tuesday night. LOL Great job Maureen!
Its been a relatively easy summer although I've felt like I have been much busier than I really was. FIL has had various doctor's appointments that I have had to take him to in preparation for open heart surgery on the 16th. That went well but with him in the hospital I have turned my attention to caring for his animals along with ours and my usual chores. He came home from the hospital on Friday the 20th but can't resume care for his animals for 12 weeks. We were all glad that he got home and that his wife and daughter would care for him and keep him from doing what he shouldn't until he is well. Saturday morning we get a call from SIL that MIL had fallen. We rushed over and found her on the floor with what we later learned was a fractured femur. Suddenly everything changes.
MIL is no longer there to cook, clean and take care of her newly released husband and and SIL must now take care of her mother in the hospital. Fortunately hubby was off Saturday through today and we have been taking turns sitting with FIL and taking him meals, doing laundry, keeping MIL's plants watered and alive and most importantly keeping FIL from doing all the things a stubborn 81 year old can get into. This has kept me going from 5am to after 10pm each night trying to get everything done over there and at my own house. And now tomorrow...hubby goes back to work and I get to be 3 people all by myself. I'm really doing the best I can to keep from getting stressed out about it.
But I have to add one positive thing...while sitting with FIL I get to watch my MIL's hummingbirds zip around her flowers. Next year I'm planting salvias again. LOL
