San Damiano
San Damiano magnify

Francis heard the voice clearly: “Why are you serving a slave Francis?” He was on his way to the battlefront in his shining armor elegantly dressed up for the show of bravery. He was all excited as he was goin to fight for his country . He was looking forward for displaying his best self and his valiant acts on the battle scene . “Everybodys goin to be amazed by the victory won by the son of Bernadone the figure who is respected and honoured through out Assisi.” Francis thought. He was dreaming abt the showers of praises that hes goin to receive when hes goin come back after his victory in the battle. He was dreaming all the way thinking abt all these.

It was when he stopped to feed the horse that he heard the voice addressing him. First he thought there was somebody out there who had talked to him. But he looked all around and couldn’t find anyone nearby. He was puzzled by the voice , he was disturbed by what it said. He thought he was goin to fight for the king , he was goin to fight for his nation and not for a slave as the voice has told him.

He couldn’t continue any longer . He turned around his horse and rode towards his home. Eventhough he knew well that only shame and mockery would be waiting for him if he comes back home without fulfilling the purpose for he has left. Still he couldn’t continue his journey to the battle field. His mind was terribly disturbed.

He spent the rest of the days in his room , thinking abt what the voice has meant. He was not troubled at all the mockery and chidings he received from the people and from his own father for bringing shame on his family. He stayed in his room without eating or drinking contemplating on what he had heard. Brokenness had already crept in his heart . He was yearning and praying that he would understand what it meant , he was hoping intently that he would hear the sweet voice again.

He spent the next two months in bitter agony. He went roaming abt the lonely countryside of Assisi. Frequenting the deserted churches, he prayed earnestly for guidance. But there wasn’t any response at all. His soul was melting with the agony of anticipation ,with the expectancy of hope. His father has already lost all his hopes for his son. He was constantly reviling him, chastising him , pleading with him in earnestness to renounce his strange behaviour and continue his legacy. Despite of all this Francis was yearning for guidance, for further instruction, all the time weighed down with the feeling remorse and guilt for his past life.

San Damiano was a deserted wooded hillside church. People has already stopped coming to that church. It was one of Francis’ favorite haunts. He used to pray there for hours breathing in the silence of that church in that lonely woods. It was during one of these intense moments that he saw the crucifix moving . It pleaded with him saying “"Go, Francis, and repair my house, which as you see is falling into ruin."

Taking this behest literally, as referring to the ruinous church wherein he knelt, Francis went to his father's shop, impulsively bundled together a load of coloured drapery, and mounting his horse hastened to Foligno, then a mart of some importance, and there sold both horse and stuff to procure the money needful for the restoration of St. Damian's.

He started his zealous works. Singing from the fullness of his heart , he placed each stone in that disheveled almost on the verge of collapsing chapel. During the daytimes, he went begging for stones needed for the construction. In the evenings, he worked merrily with the ruinous church. He ate what the poor priest of the church had given him or the stale vegetables and pieces of bread that he has managed to receive begging during that day.

Every stone was laid by him with his unquenchable Love for Lord. Every stone has listened to his joyous songs, sang during his tireless works ,every stone of San Damiano was touched and cherished by this Great Soul.

Some Touching episodes from the Life of St. Francis Assisi
Some Touching episodes from the Life of St. Francis Assisi magnify
Francis was burning with passion for the Lord. His soul couldn’t quench the thirst it felt . He didn’t know how to vent out the love he felt for Christ. He was roaming abt on his horse back in the desserted streets of Assisi.

His mind was disturbed abt the recent happenings in his life. The episodes with his father, which in turn led to his disinheritance . His mind was upset thinking abt the agony his father might have felt seeing his son , his shining star of hope roaming abt the streets as a lunatic for the love of someone called Jesus, disclaiming all the wealth and the security that he would have inherited.

His mind played and replayed the incidents that happened at the court. It was infront of his raging father, infront of the whole court, that he dismantled himself , throwing his clothes one by one into the air, untying his last bit of connection to his family , proclaiming his freedom. The court room was filled with roars of laughter and it was amidst all that he walked away making a complete fool of himself for his burning love for Jesus.

It was I who threw the rich attires to taste the sweet insanity of poverty. Francis thought. The begging bowls were too filthy for his soft, handsome hands yet he wanted to try. The beggar man walked away gladly thanking his stars for the new found luck that he had that day to hav the clothes of a richman on him and his hands full of money. He was glad enough to exchange his filthy clothes with the delirious man whom he had met that day.

Francis’ hands quivered as he raised his bowls for the alms and food left overs. He cried out loud for “ Alms”. At the end of the day he ate the stale pieces of bread the people threw to him. He ate them with tears in his eyes, his lips still quivering. His heart has already started to ablaze for the love of God.

He was wandering thinking abt all these randomly on that cold day. He has reached somewhere. The road infront of him was empty and nobody was in sight .

He was suddenly waked out of his musings, when he suddenly spotted a figure in the distance. He stared once again. Terror stuck him immediately . He was there on his horse back sweat on his brows on that cold day.

A despicable leper was fast approaching him with his head bent down, shame all over his face. Francis didn’t know what to do. His first impulse to flee from the place that moment. He stood there frozen on the ground.

The next moment he found himself running to the sick man. He ran towards the desolate unfortunate man. His burning heart was more than his sense of disgust . From the day he could remember he was filled with disgust seeing the filthiness of a leper. Now.
He passionately hugged him ,and kissed on his rotting lips. Lifted him with his both hands and carried him to his horse. He gently tucked him on his horse and turned back for a moment. He was about to climb the horse when he found that the man whom he had carried so far was missing in the nick of that moment. Francis stood there dumbfounded . Tears all over his face , He stood there crying bitterly understanding that his beloved has visited him finally.

Francis taught his followers later : “ If you kiss a leper on the lips he will be Jesus…..”

Kahlil Gibran on Love
When love beckons to you, follow him,
Though his ways are hard and steep.
And when his wings enfold you yield to him,
Though the sword hidden among his pinions may wound you.
And when he speaks to you believe in him,
Though his voice may shatter your dreams as the north wind lays waste the garden.

For even as love crowns you so shall he crucify you. Even as he is for your growth so is he for your pruning.
Even as he ascends to your height and caresses your tenderest branches that quiver in the sun,
So shall he descend to your roots and shake them in their clinging to the earth.

Like sheaves of corn he gathers you unto himself.
He threshes you to make you naked.
He sifts you to free you from your husks.
He grinds you to whiteness.
He kneads you until you are pliant;
And then he assigns you to his sacred fire, that you may become sacred bread for God's sacred feast.

All these things shall love do unto you that you may know the secrets of your heart, and in that knowledge become a fragment of Life's heart.

But if in your fear you would seek only love's peace and love's pleasure,
Then it is better for you that you cover your nakedness and pass out of love's threshing-floor,
Into the seasonless world where you shall laugh, but not all of your laughter, and weep, but not all of your tears.
Love gives naught but itself and takes naught but from itself.
Love possesses not nor would it be possessed;
For love is sufficient unto love.

When you love you should not say, "God is in my heart," but rather, "I am in the heart of God."
And think not you can direct the course of love, for love, if it finds you worthy, directs your course.

Love has no other desire but to fulfill itself.
But if you love and must needs have desires, let these be your desires:
To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night.
To know the pain of too much tenderness.
To be wounded by your own understanding of love;
And to bleed willingly and joyfully.
To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving;
To rest at the noon hour and meditate love's ecstasy;
To return home at eventide with gratitude;
And then to sleep with a prayer for the beloved in your heart and a song of praise upon your lips.

Altruism : The Way of Life
Altruism : The Way of Life magnify

Dedicated to the Immortal Legend John Lennon who inspired me with his Music as nobody else ever did.

Altruism just means unselfish concern for the welfare of others or Selflessness. The whole of the kabalistic wisdom centers around this basic principle. You learn the sacred scriptures for years and in the end everything points down to this one pivotal point. Altruism the elixir of life, the secret alchemy and the single straight forward road to happiness.

Life finds its meaning only in sharing. It’s the strangest rule of life. In order to live you’ll have to break yourself and give it away. You’ll have to dissolve in its flow becoming the soothing drink to others. Life is to live for others and not to keep it for yourself. The moment you live for others u really starts living , the moment u start living for yourself u degenerate. Those who try to keep their lives will lose it and those who lose it will gain it.

Its like the flow of waters. When ever the waters are in the move its life giving, regenerating, when it stops running it becomes stagnant breeding within it bacteria which can ruin yourself and the others coming to contact with it.

Living was ever made for sharing. It never advised us to keep things to ourselves. Look at everything around. The trees, the flowers, animals, sun, earth, the stars. Trees gives out fruits , plants gives out its sweet smelling flowers . It never takes in all the water without giving anything in return. The water gets transformed into fruits, and flowers much more beautiful things.

Look at yourself. It takes sharing of two souls to create a new being. Life never wanted the birth of a new being only with the effort of a single individual. There’s this undeniable, invisible need to co operate. Each mechanism in our body co operate and work together to be fully functional.

Physical realm is just a minor expression of the rules operating in the much more exalted Spiritual realm.

The world is created as a universal brotherhood. Nobody belongs to no one and Everybody belongs to everyone.

People live together for 10 , 15 , 20,30 0r 40 years and in the end they are tired. In the end there is only bitterness and mutual hatred in their eyes. They cant understand each other. They die as strangers. Why marriages are not getting us anywhere? Why families becomes the worst arena for rivalries and heartbreaks? Why possessive clinging to anything whether its an individual , material or non material doomed for failure? Universe was never made to function on monopolies it was primarily and solely made for sharing and sharing only.

When u start creating space for everyone in your heart you’ll truly start living . The moment u truly touch the lives of others is the moment u starts living.

Imagine by John Lennon:

Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one
