There are times in life where a community of people will join together to show their love for a dear friend, this is one of those times. I present to you after many time delays and effort...Gail's afghan.
The afghan began as a Thursday night B & N knitting group project for our dear friend
Gail. I broke my yarn diet happily to purchase all the Cascade 220 yarn substitutions for this Manos Design fall afghan. Each knitter sponsored her square and in fine group project style we set up three teams of knitters, one for each strip. Each square was knit in order, off of live stitches left from the previous knitter. The first square came all the way from Hemet, California from the needles and hands of
Monica. Selena, Doree and Cathy finished the strip, and were the first team to turn theirs in. The second strip was knit by
Kat, Betty, Julie and
Kimberly , who were the second team to finish. The final strip was knit by Barb, Diana, myself and
Laurel who generously offered to finish off the project by joining all the strips and adding the unifying border.
EDIT : Gail took a much better
picture of it.
Secrecy was a huge concern of mine, the distributing of the yarn and passing the strips along all had to be carefully executed. I myself almost blew it on several occasions and I also worried about the affects of wine consumed on loose lips during Project Runway nights shared regularly by Gail and Laurel. But the surprise and smile on Gail's face told me that it was all very much worth it. So if you have a secret...it's safe with Laurel, the master secret keeper, unlike Elaine on Seinfeld who's lock opens so easily with Schnapps.
Thank you to all you wonderful B&N ladies for your devine efforts and superior skills in making this lovely community afghan.
