Okay, it is just too hard to post the same blog in two different places. I'm cutting this one off.
I don't know if anyone reads it here anyway. I've still been writing every day but the posting has become consuming.
If you care to keep up with my ramblings you can find them here.
Thanks for reading!

This was the last day that I’d have to wake the kids for school. Mary will be back at work next week. I got them up and went back to bed for a few minutes. I ended up getting up around 6:30 and showering. I got dressed and had some breakfast. It looks like I’ll need some more cereal before tomorrow. I’m sure I’ll be near Wal-Mart sometime today.
The kids took their time and Katie took a very long shower. By the time we got out the door, Keith was worried that he would be late for school. Of course, he wasn’t but he still let it bug him. I dropped Katie and drove to the office. Jeff was looping around about what the plan would be for the day. I grabbed the flatbed keys and headed for Sam’s.
I stopped at the hospital on the way to leave off some stuff for my mom. I was able to sit around and visit for a little while. She was finishing off a breakfast that didn’t look so good. It was sausage and eggs but she wasn’t eating the sausage. She did seem to like the eggs okay. Maybe she didn’t like them but she did eat them. I was able to sit around for about thirty minutes and then I had to head off to Sam’s.
I found Julie and she agreed to pull me another pallet of soda and add it to my order. It meant I had a few extra minutes to wander around the store. I grabbed a couple of other things we needed and I also picked up some steaks that we marked down. I remembered, after I got in line, that I was supposed to bring back some peanut M&Ms. I went back and picked up a few and then noticed that the combo packs had been marked way down. I grabbed all but four and went to check out. I decided that I would grab the other four so I ran back to the aisle and got them. I got all checked out and topped off my Coke Zero. I drove around back and got my pallets loaded and headed for the warehouse.
I dropped the pallet and went up front to count the money that was in for the morning. I got most of it done before I had to head out for lunch. Mary and I were meeting at The Claim Jumper. We went in and ordered. I ordered up the tri-tip meal and Mary had a salad and soup. It was all very good. I really like that lunch special. I ordered up a bowl of soup to take to my mom for her lunch. She sounded happy to have something other than what they were serving. Mary agreed to deliver the soup to her. We finished up the meal and headed out.
Mary headed for the hospital and I headed back to the warehouse. I got back and had a little more money to count before I’d be ready for the bank. I did some paperwork around the office and placed the big order for the week. I also had to fax off an order to Sam’s so that we could pick it up on Monday.
I sat around the office until a little past 3:00 and then took a drive over to the bank. I thought it was still too early to leave so I drove back to the office. The other part was that I had forgotten my backpack and it had a couple of steaks from Sam’s inside. I got back and did a couple of other things before I left for the day. It was about 3:40.
I got home and Mary and Katie were ready to take my car to Sacramento. They are going on a shopping junket. They waited a few minutes and then took off on the trip. Keith and I were in charge of ourselves tonight.
We were driving my dad down to the hospital around 5:00. We also were stopping for dinner at the pizza place where I have the coupons. I still have three left. We picked up my dad and I called to order the food. They said it would be about thirty minutes so we stopped at Wal-Mart to grab some socks for my mom. I also needed cereal and Mary had asked for some dogfood. I’m pretty sure it’s for the dogs and not for the kids. I got the dogfood and the stuff I needed but couldn’t find the right socks. I asked but they don’t carry them at that particular Wal-Mart anymore. Keith and I put the stuff in the car and drove out to the hospital.
I tried to warn Keith that he might find it a little depressing and frightening in the place and told him what it would be like. I don’t think he believed it until we actually walked into the place. He wasn’t liking it too much by the time we got to the room and didn’t enjoy the place very much. My mom was just hanging around. We parked our butts in some chairs and sat around to visit. We gave it a couple of hours and had a nice time. I always hate leaving because I know she doesn’t like it there. I don’t blame her because she just doesn’t have much to do and it’s not much fun going out in the halls with the general population.
We left around 7:30 and made a stop at Guitar Center to see about Keith’s books for his class. They didn’t have the books he needs but I did manage to put a bit of soda into their machine. I wanted them to be able to get through until we get there next week. We had quite a bit of stuff stored in the bottom of the machine and I used it all up. We left the place and drove home.
I had a little snack because I was still hungry and then digested a bit before I headed to the gym. I worked out for a little over half an hour and then sat down to play some music . I picked out a stack of songs for church and then played them too. It was nice to sit down and play some stuff. I don’t know if we’ll have a drummer on Saturday or not. Don called and he’s going to Carson City to see Sarah Palin do some campaigning.
I went back upstairs and watched a little of the hurricane coverage. I had some water and then decided to head to bed. I was tired and was ready to go to sleep. I dozed off for a little while and then woke up around 2:00. Keith had some music blaring in his room and I stuck my head in so that I could see if he was asleep. He talked a bit but claimed later I had woke him up. That was it and I went to sleep for the night.

September 11th
I guess I should comment on the day. I’m not sure what to say. They showed all the images from that fateful day on the TV all day long. I suppose we need to see it. I remember that morning and I’m pretty sure we all were hoping that the first plane crash was an accident and not terrorism. At the same time, I think we all knew the truth. I turned on the TV this morning and they were having a ceremony at the pentagon memorial site. I’d really like to go and see that. I think I would make another trip to DC just to see that place. We’d have had a great view of it from the hotel we were in last year. Well, maybe someday.
I got the kids up and then got out of bed a little later. I showered and tried to leave the room without waking Mary. She was hoping to sleep in for a while. I ate breakfast, checked the e-mail and watched some more of the TV coverage. The kids were really taking their time and we were running to get the boy to school on time. Of course, it wasn’t my fault and I wasn’t going to be late for work so I wasn’t too concerned. It was almost 7:20 when we left and he is supposed to be there by 7:25. He’s lucky it’s a short drive. I left him running toward the door of the school to get there on time.
I drove Katie to her school and headed for the office. Helene was working this morning and taking off the afternoon and tomorrow. She had already counted Will’s money and I was happy to not have to deal with it. Jeff was around and the two of us were going to drive out to the new account and top off a couple of the machines. Jeff has a bit of OCD and really just wanted to go out there and make sure it was all okay.
Before we could go I needed to return the rental truck. Kim and I emptied it and I drove over to fill it with fuel. I got some funny looks when I pulled up to the pump because the guy next to me wasn’t sure the truck would go under the roof. It cleared by about 18 inches. I topped off the tank with 6 gallons of good stuff and then drove back to the place. The guy checked it in and gave me a receipt. Jeff was waiting outside and we headed out to the new place.
Jeff decided that he would work in the main break room and I would do the walking. I loaded my cart and hit the three satellite locations. I used all the soda I took but hardly any of the snacks. It took my about 35 minutes to hit all three stops and meet back up with Jeff. I helped him finish off the snack and soda machines up there and we were done.
We drove back to town and it was getting close to lunchtime. Helene had already left and all the money was caught up for the time being. I asked if we could head to lunch a little early so that I could run into the DMV. Jeff waited outside while I went inside. I was turning in an application for a handicapped permit for my mom to use. I stood in the line to get my ticket for the other line. The guy gave me a number and told me to wait in the handicapped area. Well, just like at the doctor’s office Tuesday, I was called immediately. I was happy about that. The guy checked my paperwork and issued to placards for us to use. Now we just need to get her out of the hospital.
We drove over and had some Mexican food for lunch. I had the same as always and Jeff’s dad joined us too. It was a fine lunch and I found myself not in a rush to get back to work. We talked for a little while and took off for the office.
I had a little more money to count when we got back. I also got on the phone and talked to a gal from craigslist that was selling some air race tickets for Saturday. Keith and I are going to see the show. The kids showed up around 2:45 for the music lessons and I had to listen to them argue until it was time to go. I was skipping the lesson because I needed to do a little more work and I also needed to go and pick up the tickets. We loaded in the car and I dropped them in the next building over from ours. I continued out to the gal’s office and bought the tickets from her. They say, “comp” on them so I guess they didn’t cost her anything. I might have made a lower offer if I had realized that from the beginning. Oh well, I still saved a little money and a lot of headache. Last year, we spent thirty extra minutes in the ticket line and missed a chunk of the races.
I drove back to the office and gathered up the deposit. I did a couple of other things and then went to get the kids. We all rode to the bank and hauled the deposit inside. There were 9 bags of coins so I had the kids bring out the cart that they have in the bank for customers to use. We rolled the money inside, made the deposit and headed for home.
Mary had some dinner ready and I crammed it down before I had to leave to take Keith and his buds to football. I was also picking up my dad and he was going to ride out to the hospital. We left a little before 5:00 and made all of our pick ups. I dropped the kids at the field and then took my dad down to the hospital.
We walked in and settled in for our evening visit. I think my mom is getting tired of being in the place and is ready to get home. I think that is good. Jeff came by a little later and I was happy that I had brought down extra chairs yesterday. We all sat and talked for a long time and then Jeff had to go. He took off and my dad and I waited a little longer. We finally left around 7:15 and I think my mom wished she was going with us. I know that I wished it.
I stopped in at my dad’s house to get his computer running right. He couldn’t get it to print. I worked on it for a little while and got it working to his satisfaction. I headed home and was just beat.
I had a bowl of cereal but was just too tired to work out tonight. I felt a little guilty but I was so tired. I sat in my chair for a little while and then headed for the bed. It felt so good to lie down in my bed. I did some reading and just relaxed until I was ready to go to sleep for the night.
I’ll have much more to say tomorrow.

Today was the day of the big installation out in Patrick. It started out normal around my house. I woke the kids and everybody showered. I had a nice breakfast to hold me until lunch and then we had to haul out the trash. We had a lot more trash than usual this week. Mary had pulled a bunch out of the kid’s rooms and I found a couple of additional bags worth around the house. I put them at the curb and we were ready to go.
I dropped the Keith and then headed for the high school. Katie told me that she had forgotten one of her journals that she had to have for school. I turned back around and headed back home. She grabbed her book and we were off again. It was nearly 8:00 when I got to the office. I did a couple of things in the office to make sure I was set to be gone all day. We loaded up the last of the stuff and headed out to Patrick at about 9:00. I drove the flatbed and followed Kim in the big rental truck. It took about 25 minutes to drive out there and we were ready to work.
I pulled the flatbed inside the building and we found a dock to use for the rental truck. We got everything set and started to unload things. We started in the main breakroom and replaced all the machines. Actually, we weren’t replacing any of the soda machines. We had arranged to take them over from the outgoing vendor. That made it nice. We swapped out the group of machines and then I took off for other parts of the building. They have four different break areas and we had to put machines at all of them. I spent the next several hours pulling machines around this giant place. The entire place is over 800,000 square feet. WOW! It’s huge! We all moved machines and stocked product and installed refrigerators until it was finally time to have some lunch. Jeff’s wife had brought some food from the Claim Jumper and we sat down in the break room to eat. I couldn’t believe how tired I was. I must have walked five miles today in that place. After lunch we still had quite a few things to do. I walked out to some of the other rooms and filled up the soda machines with Kim. We had to level a couple and then we had to do the worst job of the day. We had to remove all the personal lunches and stuff from the refrigerators that were going out and put them in the new fridges.
I couldn’t believe the junk they had in the coolers. I was carrying a sandwich in a wrapper and it unwrapped and fell out. I felt very bad that I had ruined some person’s lunch. Well, I felt bad until I looked at the sandwich and it was so old it was covered in mold. GROSS! You know what? That wasn’t even the worst thing in the cooler.
It was after 2:00 when we pulled out of the building to head for home. I made a stop for gas and then met up with Kim at the outgoing vendor’s place. We had to leave off their coolers that we had removed from the building. I found someone that said to drop them anywhere. I opened up their dock door and we backed the truck into the bay. We pulled off the coolers and headed for our own warehouse.
It was good to be back but it was nearly 3:30. Kim was ready to go and so was I. He was able to go and we said we’d unload the trucks in the morning. I still had some work to do. My mind was mush because I was so tired. I got the bank deposit ready to go and signed all the paychecks and then realized it was already 4:00. I took the money and headed for the bank.
I had planned to meet Mary at the rehab hospital and then we were going to have dinner. I was going to go straight from work but my dad called and wanted to ride with me. I headed home instead of to the hospital. I picked up Katie and my dad. We all drove out to the hospital and settled in for a visit. I had taken a couple of my mom and dad’s folding chairs so that we’d all have somewhere to sit. I was hoping that they would fold up and fit in the closet. We all sat down and I took off my shoes because my feet hurt. Mary arrived a bit later after she dropped the boys at practice.
We all talked for quite a while and got to watch my mom eat her hamburger. Okay, I think it was a hamburger. The bun was HUGE but the meat was nearly unidentifiable. She ate about half of the burger and it didn’t stay where she put it. The pain pills are giving her a bit of nausea. I think they’ll end up giving her something to help keep the pills down. The time flew by and we ended up leaving around 7:00. We drove over to Red Robin and had a quick dinner. It wasn’t very good at all. I ate my sandwich but the bread wasn’t fresh and the fries seemed like they’d been hanging around the warmer. I did enjoy the onion rings. I still had to stop for stuff at Lowe’s and for gas so I left as soon as I finished my meal.
I drove to Lowe’s and bought a ceiling fan for the boy’s room. I also grabbed a few things to use at work to hook up a coffee maker. I found the stuff quickly and drove to Sam’s for gas. I thought about going in the store but I was too tired. I just headed straight home. I made myself a small snack and sat down to relax.
Man, I was bushed. I stayed up for a few minutes and then I just had to go to bed. I found enough energy to read a little bit of my book and then I went to sleep. My legs were so sore and my eyes were so heavy. I’m sure I’ll sleep great.

Tuesday was a typical Tuesday. I had to wake the kids again but Mary got up a little later because it was picture day and she was doing Katie’s hair. I told Katie to get right in the shower. I slept a little longer then took my own shower. We all got our breakfast and then were out the door by 7:15. I left both the kids at school.
I drove to the office and tried to figure out what to do. I started with a few minutes at my desk and then took a bike ride out to get the big truck for the installation tomorrow. I arrived at the Budget rental lot and had to look around for an employee. I found the dude in the back and he met me in the office. I filled out all the paperwork and coughed up my credit card. The guy said he’d bring the truck around so I went outside to wait. I waited a little longer than I thought I’d have to but I think it really wasn’t that long. He brought the truck up and we spent several minutes noting every single scratch or dent on the thing. I threw my bike in the back and took off for the office. Man, that truck is BIG. It’s a 24 foot diesel that has pretty good power. It was a fun drive but it’s probably the only time I’ll drive it until it needs to be returned.
I parked outside the warehouse and went up to the office to count a little bit of money. I had arranged for Kim and I to pick up a couple of coolers at 10:00. We left a few minutes before 10:00 and drove about a mile to the warehouse where the coolers were. We loaded the three coolers and discovered that the lift gate is a tiny bit shaky on the rental truck. It’s not broken but it doesn’t seem so great for vending machines. We knew we’d have to rethink our machine loading plan. We got them on the truck and secured in place and I went out to the street to guide Kim out into traffic. We got lucky and there was a lull in traffic. We were able to pull the truck right out into the street without disrupting anybody.
We drove back to the office and backed up to our dock door. We never use that door and had to move quite a bit of stuff out of the way. It took quite a while to clear the space and then we were set up to move machine straight out into the back of the truck.
It was already lunchtime and Jeff was ready to go. We went to the Oyster Bar and Ruthie served us up some scampi. I had a little bit of salad with mine and then ate the shrimp. Jeff always doubles up on the rice so it takes him longer to eat. I just sat and waited. We got back to the office at about noon and I went to work in the warehouse.
I had to load seven more machines on the back of the truck. I started with a couple of soda machines. It took some doing to get them over the liftgate and then everything else was easy. Kim helped with several and we got them loaded in a little over and hour. We decided to leave the rest for tomorrow.
My mom was supposed to be moved to the rehab hospital today. My dad had called me earlier and let me know that they weren’t going to move her until tomorrow. Well, they changed their minds again and he called around 2:30 to tell me they were coming at 3:00 to get her. I wanted to be there when they moved her and when she arrived at the new place. I had an appointment at the doctor about my shoulder scheduled for 3:30. I decided that I’d get there early and see if I could get in and out. I gathered the deposit and left the office at about 2:45. I made the deposit and drove to the Dr.’s office. I walked in and the place was PACKED. There were probably thirty people sitting in the waiting room and I thought I’d never get out. I checked in and took a seat in the waiting area. It was about a minute later when they called me. I got a few dirty looks from the other folks that had been waiting. I went back and sat down to wait for the doctor. It took him quite a while last time but he was less than a minute this time. We talked about my shoulder and decided that I’d stick with the therapy for a while and I WAS DONE.
I walked across the street to the hospital and up to my mom’s room. They had just put her in the wheelchair and the transport dude was getting ready to haul her out. My dad and I agreed to meet at his house and I would drive us out to the new place. I put a couple of gallons of gas in the car and picked up my dad. We drove out to the hospital and they already had her in a bed in her room. She’d even met her roomate and seemed to know all about her. That was quick! We sat down and all got acquainted with the place. It looks okay. There are a lot of people in the skilled nursing section and it was a little depressing. I think my mom will try to get through her rehab therapy and get back home. We sat for an hour or so and then my dad was ready to go. We got her settled and headed out the door.
We decided to stop for dinner and ended up at Wendy’s. Mary and the kids had already eaten so I still had to have something. We got a couple of burgers and fries. The fries didn’t tast very fresh but I don’t think either of us cared too much. We finished the meal and I dropped my dad at home. I went home myself and sat down to relax for a minute. I did a couple of small things to help Mary out with the painting and I got to work on Keith’s room. I was supposed to put it back together. I had to start with his computer because he had some sort of virus that shut down the whole thing. I had to wipe out the hard drive completely and install everything from scratch. I set it up near my chair and worked on it while I was going back and forth and doing some other moving. We got the room fairly set up and I changed into my workout clothes. Katie and I went down to the gym and picked a circuit to do for the night.
We started with some warm ups and then got into the circuit. It was one of the tougher ones and we went through it three times. I was winded by the end but glad that we had done the exercise. I’m proud that Katie is doing it a few times a week. It should be great for her. We went back upstairs at the end and I went back to work on the computer. I ended up working on it for another hour and then we put it back in his room. He was thrilled and it was working. I sat back down in my chair to have a little snack.
I had some apples and peanut butter and then it was time to relax for the rest of the night.
I went to bed a little later and read a little bit in my book. It’s a pretty good book but it’s taking me a long time to read it. I got through a couple of chapters and fell asleep. I’ll need the rest for the big machine install tomorrow.
