Bush's Last Ridiculous Manouvre
Bush's Last Ridiculous Manouvre magnify

In (hopefully) one of his last actions that defy common sense, Bush is proposing to send another 20,000 or so troops to Iraq. He's not really though. Democrats control both houses. There is a snowflakes chance in hell this idea will get the support required by the Dems to go through. So why propose it? Clearly he will sleep better at night if, as senility takes an even stronger vice-like grip on him, he'd like to be able to look back on the enormity of his stupidity and be able to say "Well, if ONLY we could have sent another 20k troops, we damn well would have won that war!"

Baloney.

Crikey!
Apparently Scott Adams (Author of Dilbert) pulled down a Crocodile Hunter related post on his blog after being bombarded with quite nasty comments. The post has since appeared here:

http://www.geckoandfly.com/2006/09/06/dilbert-author-remove-post-on-crocodile...

I'm as sad about the demise of a great Australian personality as the next bloke (or sheila), but I personally didn't find the post all that offensive. Let's put it to a poll...

Should the Scott Adams post re: Steve Irwin have been pulled?
Yes - He should be fed to a pack of stingrays
0
No - It's the Australian way to laugh in the face of tragedy

Holocaust Cartoon Fair Opens in Iran
Those whacky Iranian fundamentalist muslims are working hard to prove once and for all they do have a sense of humour. In response to the 12 cartoons depicting mohammed in a negative light  published by a Danish newspaper last September, an undisclosed sponsor has funded a Holocaust cartoon exibition, showing about 200 cartoons (from 1,100 submitted) that paint the genocide of millions of people in a ka-ha-ha-ray-zee side splitting extravaganza of hatred and spite.

According to the  exhibition organiser, the purpose of the fair aimed to "explore the limits of freedom Westerners believe in". So what has this exploration revealed? I've scoured the net for news of cartoon inspired bombings, bomb threats, hostage taking, calls for trade embargos, fatwas and jihads (and their western equivalents) and so far the jewish sector has been slow to anger to the extent we witnessed last year. It seems that if the goal was to deliberately anger those that may be a little sensitive to the atrocities carried out against their friends and relatives , then the organisers have failed to do little more than raise an eyebrow. It has however reinforced the misconception that Islam is a faith grounded in a culture of intolerance and hate. From the perspective of someone not emotionally attached to either side, this seems like the actions of a petulant 5 year old. With financial backing.

Now this is a tough day at the office...

Double amputee reaches Mt Everest summit

"Double amputee Mark Inglis has made it to the summit of Mount Everest, his wife Anne confirmed from New Zealand."

Wow. This, after he and a mate both had both legs amputated below the knee after being trapped in an ice cave for 14 days. The only conceivable way he could be harder would be if he'd performed the amputations himself. With a spoon. My hats off to ya Mark!
