PatchPump Drug Delivery System
PatchPump Drug Delivery System magnify
Here is an interesting take on an idea that might change some drug delivery systems:

SteadyMed
Ltd. is an Israeli startup developing the PatchPump™, a subcutaneous medication delivery button, that the company describes as "light and inexpensive patch-sized miniature infusion pump." What's more is that the device promises to be able to inject both basal rates and user-initiated boluses of meds.

The company says that its PatchPump™ works using a "novel solid-state battery cell which gradually expands in a stable manner under electronic control."

A couple of nuggets about the technology and capabilities of device as provided by the company:

The ECell™ merges the two major components of disposable pumps -- the power source and the motor -- into one simple miniature part, enabling the fabrication of very flat and simple devices.

For the Holidays, Hushmail Introduces StealthSurfer – with Web Privacy Tools
For the Holidays, Hushmail Introduces StealthSurfer – with Web Privacy Tools magnify

Newly upgraded device protects consumers against fraud and identity theft while Holiday shopping online or traveling this season

VANCOUVER, BC (November 06, 2007) – Hush Communications (www.hushmail.com or www.stealthsurfer.com), a global provider of managed security solutions and encryption technology, today announced the launch and sale of the newly enhanced StealthSurfer by Hushmail product. The StealthSurfer is a miniature flash drive which allows consumers to surf the Web with anonymity from any computer – even over a wireless (WiFi) connection. Using the device’s integrated Web browser, consumers can surf in an encrypted mode that masks their IP addresses and hides their web surfing from hackers and anyone else who might have get access to their networks. This is especially important for users who want to surf privately while using public wireless networks. Ideal for those who prefer to avoid the Holiday crowds and do their shopping online, or frequent coffee shop surfers, airport travelers, Internet café goers or anyone who uses their laptop wirelessly in a public “hotspot,” the StealthSurfer is the most robust and complete privacy and identity theft protection tool on the market. Shipping in time for the Holiday shopping season, the device is available in memory configurations of 2GB to 8GB, with special Holiday pricing starting at $179[1].

“Online safety and security is of paramount importance to consumers these days,” explains Ben Cutler, CEO of Hush Communications. “With more and more shopping moving to the Web, it is more important than ever before to offer tools to protect consumers, especially during the very busy Holiday season. Our StealthSurfer’s onboard encryption tools and technologies offer piece of mind that online transactions and personal data are once again safe.”

Optimized for the Holiday Shopper

Using the integrated Tor software, StealthSurfer ensures that Web shoppers can surf anonymously. The Tor “network of virtual tunnels” serves to mask the shopper’s IP address, protecting them from malicious websites. . In addition, the unit comes bundled with Roboform password manager software that allows shoppers to manage their many disparate online logins, user IDs and passwords in one secure location, offering convenience and identity protection. With the included MojoDrive software, users can now take their favorite software programs and documents with them when they travel during the holidays. Programs and applications installed on the MojoDrive-equipped StealthSurfer can be run from a temporary computer location without affecting the host computer – ideal when traveling or using public computers.

Onboard Software, Pricing and Availability

The StealthSurfer by Hushmail comes with MojoDrive, a Hushmail encrypted email account, Hushmail for Outlook, Hush Messenger, Tor, Firefox, Thunderbird, and RoboForm, a popular password manager program. Units are available immediately with memory configurations of two-gigabyte to eight-gigabytes and with pricing starting as low as $179. StealthSurfer units are available through the company’s Web site, www.stealthsurfer.com and select channel partners.

Adapter to Extend the Range of your Wireless Network
Adapter to Extend the Range of your Wireless Network magnify
I love Wi-Fi as long as it's used correctly.

At this point in time I *strongly* suggest wired Ethernet or Gigabit Ethernet for mission critical areas of your business (read clinical workstations and front desk workstations) due to the fact that wireless is not yet dependable enough.

However, if you are needing to place, or have placed, a PC in a non-mission critical area and don't have access to a cabled connection, then wireless is a fine alternative.

To that end, in many areas of an office there are dead spots or enough interference that a wireless signal is unavailable. If you need a wireless connection, take a look at the Wi-Fire.

From the company website:

The Wi-Fire is a compact, range-extending USB device that enables you to access a wireless Internet connection from up to 1,000 feet away--three times the range of your internal wireless adapter.

Every Wi-Fire works with Windows XP and Vista and on Mac OS X 10.3 and up, including Leopard..
Get your own Wi-Fire for only $79.00.

Scottsdale Center Presents Dr. Richard Conlin with Orthodontics for Your Practice

(Scottsdale – October 26, 2007) – With over 20 years’ experience, Richard Conlin, DDS is one of the best-known educators in orthodontics for general, pediatric and other dentists. Starting in 2008, his courses will be exclusively offered at the Scottsdale Center for Dentistry.

Dr. Conlin’s five-course, 80-hour continuum is spread over one year, and will educate general, pediatric, and other dentists to provide high quality comprehensive orthodontic treatment for appropriate cases. He will be assisted in this program by Light Force America faculty.

Says Dean of the Center, Dr. Gordon J. Christensen, “Most dental practitioners are involved with orthodontic needs on a routine basis. Many desire to know more, and short courses lack the necessary depth to accomplish orthodontic therapy at a competent level. Dr. Conlin’s courses educate practitioners about the essential elements of orthodontic diagnosis, treatment planning and treatment in a logical and well-organized manner. Participants not only gain greater depth of expertise in orthodontics, they also are better able to evaluate orthodontic situations and refer to others when needed.”

Each of the five courses in the continuum is a two-day workshop presented at the Scottsdale Center. Registrations are now being accepted. The first course will be held January 14-15, 2008. For a full description of course content, dates and tuition, please visit the Center website at www.scottsdalecenter.com, or call Ben Newcomb (480) 588-9040.
