Time Management
Over the years I have tried numerous Time Management systems to help manage the various demands at work. Over the years we have seen ones from Daytimers, Franklin, Steve Covey, and David Allen to name a few. Well, when starting the new job, I decided that there was a need to implement some sorta guerilla time management system for me. I looked a few freeware / shareware deals, did the Journal thing in Exchange and looked at the Outlook Addins. I knew going in that none of these would meet all the needs I was just trying to find something that was a bit useful.

David Allen's Getting Things Done (GTD) is a system that you can implement using just paper and folders or palm or outlook. Since most of tasks come from E-mails and it is the easiest thing to replicate to a handheld device, I started in on Outlook. I made a few recommended additions and then got the bug to fix the start page up. Well that took a bit since there was scarce doumentation and the examples on the web didn't yield what I wanted. But I finally got it working great, got the categories set up, and got projects defined. I'll be discussing how to get Outlook set up for GTD (gratis btw, no books or white papers to buy) during the next few blogs - so stay tuned.

Alafia River Rendezvous
Alafia River Rendezvous magnify

I went down to Bartow (east of Tampa) to the 2007 Alafia River Rendezvous sponsored by the Florida Frontiersmen. It was slightly bigger than Fort Frederick in it's hey days. There was maybe the same number of vendors (Mr. Poppen, GhostForge, and Mike from Kentucky Leather were there) Surprisingly enough, I didn't see anyone I recognized.

As you can see from the pic, it is a bit different camping in Florida. It's going to take a bit getting used to. Seems like wind is the worst problem where they were set up. They haven't got all the facilites in yet since they haven't been in the location for too many years.

There are quite a few re-enactments and Pioneer Day events around the area. I'll try to get to them and get some pics for everyone.

Stay warm up there !

Entry for December 23, 2006

Well, got moved down here to Florida and am getting settled into the new house. It's about 10 minutes east of work so not a bad drive. The drive down was a bit delayed due to the movers not getting me a final price so I could get the cashier's check.

I've got a couple rooms unpacked and sorted out. Still lots more to do. It always seems to take a bit to get things sorted to their final places. I'm cleaning things as I put them away - just makes it easier in the long run.

Christmas in Florida is certainly different than up north. This week the temps have been around 70 and lows in the 50s. The Live Oaks have dropped their leaves so we know winter is coming.

Hope everyone has a happy and safe holiday season !

I thought I would take a bit of time to update this 360 Blog. I finally got a job in FL close to my mom. I'll be working for Haven Hospice as the Director of Information Technology. It is the largest hospice in the US serving 16 counties in FL. I will be steering the direction of the company so we can maintain a high level of care and be competitive in the marketplace.

I will be leaving West Virginia sometime the week of Dec 10. It wil depend on when the movers can get here that week. I got a bit to move and am not wanting to hurt my back moving it and especially unpacking in FL with only a little help. It will be a bit expensive but worth it in the end.

Cheers for now!

Well the report back from KY was that it was very hot. That would have been terribly uncomfortable in my wall tent since the back wall doesn't open. I beleive I may be buying a marquee soon, within a year anyway.

Still remains hot in the mountains with only some minimal relief.  I think I still prefer the heat to the cold.
