My life with its contradictions, troubles and joyous moments!
When it got dark I was hunting for souvenirs at different stores and got some nice stuff (like Ukulele, small Hawaiian 4-string guitar) but still forgot to get something in a hurry. Well, it's all good though, here's to many more returns! Our shuttle to the airport was at 8:00 pm and I barely made it by then. We got to the airport... Our seats on the plane were... 13A and 13B. Nice combination, isn't it? Before we took off, Nancy, our flight attendant, "kindly" informed us that the aircraft that we were supposed to be flying on to LA had "some mechanical problems, therefore we decided to replace it with another aircraft which has just landed from Atlanta". The next phrase wasn't a cheering one either: "We do apologize and appreciate your understanding, but this aircraft also has some problems with... enterntainment system - there is no video, sound, and we have problems with overhead lights." I was like, hold on, what other problems does it have?! Anyway, a 5-hour overnight flight was ahead of us and we were trying to fall asleep as the plane was flying over the waters of the Pacific Ocean... We landed at 7:00 am at LAX. The first impression was... "cooold!"
My bag was unluckily one of the last ones at the baggage claim so I had to wait for another 40 minutes before I could finally go home. I got to Santa Monica at 9:00 am and at 2:00 pm I was supposed to be at work! I barely slept for 3 hours and then I had to get up and get ready to work. And mind the3-hour difference between PST and Hawaiian time! Wooh, it was a long day for me!So I finally did it :)
This weekend I managed to get outta LA and go to Palm Springs and Desert cities. We strarted out early in the morning (well, early enough for me!) and left Santa Monica at 10:00 am... In two hours we were there... We stopped by outlets in neighboring Cabazon on the way. We started exploring Greater Palm Springs backwards: our first destination became Indio with its famous date milkshakes (Shields Date Gardens)... I even managed to have several dates... (wow, I never had more than one date per day before, good start, Serge!
). Then we took Route 111 toward Palm Springs with a few stops in Indian Wells, Desert Springs, and Cathedral City. In Desert Springs we strolled El Paseo, so-called "Rodeo Driveof the Desert" with many boutiques and galleries. To our amusement the street was almost emplty, rare businesses were open while most of others were closed with messages like "closed for summer" or "reopen on October 1"... Later on we figured out that July is actually a low season as few people are able to sustain over 110 F...We were though, as we were walking in the sun at 3 pm when the temperature was around 118 F (this particular day was one of the hottest this summer). All exhausted and dehydrated, we were dragging on till we saw - yay! - a Starbucks!
It was cool inside, so we shared these pleasant moments with Starbucks fulfilling our need for vivifying liquids...
