So it has been almost a year since I put anything in the blog, so how about something about the last post.
We are just two week away from Indiana moving to DST. This means for the first time since before I can remember we will have to adjust the clocks. While this seems simple enough for normal clocks, what about computers.
I know this is going to be a problem, but what got me thinking about this again was my DirectTivo. The average joe will be able to fix the clock on the computer (even if they shouldn't have to), but what about the Tivo software? Has that been updated or will it be recording shows that are off by an hour? It is not like I can adjust the clock on the thing as it is sync'ed when it calls in for service. I could change the zip code to OH, but will I then lose my local stations?
That got me thinking, what about banks? Are they going to have shifted hours because the computers are down or think there is a hour difference from the actual time?
You might think people must have thought of this and got the updates in, but you would be amazed of how many people at work had no clue Indiana was moving to DST when I raised the issue 6+ months ago.
Best case:
Turns out to be just like Y2K and nothing happens and we enjoy the fruits of DST (not sure what they are)
Worst case:
You have a lot of pissed off hoosiers asking why we change because now my X is broken or is a hour off and I can't easily fix it.
