For my use here visualize Goliath as your FEAR, any FEAR, large or small.

Now lets take a look at your FEAR named Goliath shall we.

David’s adversary should not be so easily discounted here as to lose the awe of God’s unlimited power to overcome ANY and ALL FEARS, His victory over Goliath and the Philistine army through David which finally allowed God’s chosen nation of Israel to occupy their Promised Land.

The Philistines were a fierce race of warriors and they were the Israel’s arch enemy in the region.

They occupied most of the northern territory of the Promised Land of Canaan along the Mediterranean

Seacoast. They were a vastly superior fighting force to the Nation of Israel at this time in every human measure. They had superior numbers of seasoned and experienced warriors that were battle hardened from their many conquests. The Philistine military also had superior weaponry as they were skilled in the art of iron forged implements of war which were many times harder and stronger than Israel’s weapons of brass or bronze and thereby giving them superior “firepower”.

They also had the tremendous advantage of knowing the theatre of war in Canaan, this was their “homeland”, Israel was seeing a lot of this territory for the first time, this obviously gave them a great tactical advantage.

From every perspective the Philistine army should have been able to easily defeat the invading Nation of Israel and defend their “homeland”.

Goliath was the champion of this formidable Philistine army. Many times in battles opposing armies would designate their respective champion with the winner determining the overall winner of the battle. This saved both sides from massive losses and attrition from the savagery of hand to hand mortal combat. We really don’t know a great deal about Goliath but we can surmise that as the Philistine’s champion he was probably in his prime as a warrior.

We do know from God’s word some notable “stats” about Goliath.

He stood approximately 9’9” tall and one would have to guess at that height he had to weigh over 400 to 500 muscular pounds !

The Bible says that his battle coat weighed upwards of 125 pounds ! Imagine the strength it must have taken to engage in fierce, brutal hand to hand combat with that on your back !

The Bible also says that Goliath carried a war spear with a forged head of iron that weighed 15 pounds. One would have to also guess that the spear would have to be in proportion to the carrier’s height for proper balance and control once it was thrown.

How far do you think you could throw a long pole possibly 8’ long or longer with 3 - 5 pound bags of sugar strapped to it !

Can you imagine the force of impact by such an imposing and lethal projectile !

Strong ? Absolutely, there was and is NO QUESTION that Goliath was strong, almost inhumanly strong !

BUT !

There was and is also NO QUESTION that God WAS AND IS STRONGER !

STRONGER THAN GOLIATH !

STRONGER THAN ANY FEAR !

Now please don’t misunderstand me here folks.

By no means do I want to convey any idea that I am diminishing David in any way by the description of his opponent, just the opposite is true.

I am emphasizing the size of David’s opponent here to underscore the spectacular nature of God’s deliverance of His chosen people here on the battlefield before a vastly superior army on foreign soil.

Goliath was an awesome sight to behold, so much so that Saul’s entire army was frozen by FEAR before him.

Goliath’s fatal mistake was his failure to recognize that God is in control over all and that by his mocking God’s Sovereignty he came under the righteous indignation of a youth who boldly proclaimed his trust in his Almighty God.

When all others around him were paralyzed with FEAR, David literally ran forward to meet his FEAR head-on in complete and total trust in the Ultimate Authority, Sovereignty, and Unlimited Power and Resources of his Heavenly Father.

David loudly faced down his fear by telling the giant before him that not only was he going to slay him, cut off his head as a trophy to his God but that today, right then and there, that his God would give him and the outnumbered and outgunned nation of Israel an overwhelming victory over the entire Philistine army.

My dear friend the next time you are facing your FEAR named “Goliath” remember the courage of a young sheppard boy who loudly proclaimed his trust in the Unlimited power and sovereignty in his God by shouting “MY GOD IS BIGGER THAN ANY FEAR” !

Beloved you CAN trust in the Mighty Jehovah, His omnipotence, His faithfulness, His ultimate authority over every situation.

God wants to be your Champion.

He has promised in His Holy Word, the Bible that He will never leave you nor forsake you.

He wants to protect you from all your “Goliaths” if you simply trust Him and give Him control over your life, and watch Him do for you what He did for David, what He has proven Himself capable of doing time and time again….EVERYTHING !

Repent of your sin. Trust Him. Obey Him.

What about you my friend ? Are you ready for your spiritual war ? Are you tired of fighting your own battles ? Your “enemy” is spiritual, NOT flesh and blood and he is even greater than Goliath….

BUT !

HE IS STILL NOT GREATER THAN THE “GREAT I AM” !

In fact my dear child of The Most High God your enemy, Satan, has ALREADY been defeated at Calvary by through the propiation of our Precious Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

You cannot be drafted in this war.

God’s army is an “all volunteer” fighting force !

You join out of your own free will.

What about you beloved are you ready to “sign up” ?

OK I hear you out there….

Sounds to good to be true right ?

Just say the sinners prayer and everything will be sunshine and roses right…..NOT !

In fact just the opposite is true my friend.

The enemy can ONLY do to you what God allows him to do !

That MUST BE CLEARLY UNDERSTOOD BEFORE WE PROCEED ANY FURTHER !

When you receive the gift of free Salvation you are opening yourself up to the attacks of the enemy because you have just “declared war” on him in Jesus name.

I wont sugarcoat it here.

It can sometimes be a real physical, emotional, and financial battle to stay true to God.

But the rewards of eternal life, perfected in your glorified “body” spending an eternity in the unspeakable, unfathomable beauty of Heaven and the complete pure joy, peace, and love together with YOUR Heavenly Father.

On balance it’s the best deal ever made. A mortal lifetime lived in human abundance, joy, peace, love, and prosperity even with the daily tests and struggles of living in a decaying world subjects us to in exchange for an eternity of perfect love, perfect joy, perfect peace….FOREVER !

Deliverance by the Almighty Hand of The Living God.

Freedom given to His Chosen People then….Disobedience !

40 years of mindless wandering as God punishes His people for their lack of trust in Him even after He had demonstrated His unlimited power over and over, time and time again.

Of course God already had the Promised Land ready and waiting for them, they could realistically made the journey out of Egypt in less than 2 weeks but instead God allowed them to wander a circular route for 40 years until the disobedient generation had passed so that He could once again prepare His people to accept their fate as His, set aside from all other nations for His service and Glory.

Maybe just maybe instead of fearing your problem or issues no matter how big or impossible they may seem, maybe we should FEAR what would happen if we disobey God after receiving clear discernment from the Holy Spirit.

Our God is unlimited in His resources that He will use to bring about His will but He is also very patient, if it takes 40 years of your life to wait for you to change so be it.

After all what is time to God ?

The children of Israel stood on the eastern bank of the Jordan River contemplating where they should cross into the land that God had promised their patriarch Abraham.

They sent spies in to determine the best entry point because they would have the conquer the armies of the people who already occupied the land.

They soon found out that their Promised Land wasn’t going to just be handed to them without their full trust and faith in the Great I AM.

This land flowing with milk and honey was home to the “sons of the Anakins” among others, giants among men; 7 to 9 feet tall with heavily fortified cities some with walls as high as 30 feet.

We’re they afraid ?

Would’nt any prudent person be ?

Again, the question is NOT fear itself but how we react to that fear.

Lets be clear here. Fear by itself is NOT a crime, it is NOT a sin.

Where me must come to an understanding is that the sin is NOT trusting that God.

To begin to trust in God we must try to grasp who God is.

1. IS IN CONTROL.

2. KNOW’S THE CONCLUSION AND ANSWER TO WHAT IS CAUSING YOUR FEAR.

3. WILL NEVER ALLOW YOU TO GO THROUGH ANYTHING YOU CAN’T ENDURE.

4. GOD LOVES YOU MORE THAN YOU CAN UNDERSTAND AND ONLY WANTS THE BEST FOR YOU AND YOUR LIFE.

The question really should be :

Is my trust in The Sovereign Lord of The Universe bigger than my FEAR ?

Is it on “ELOHIM” ( the only true and supreme God ).

Is it on “EL SHADDAI” ( God is all powerful ).

Is my trust firmly in the loving hands of the Glorious, Unlimited, Omnipotent, Everlasting to Everlasting, Alpha and Omega, Jehovah….Yahweh….God !

Or

Is my fear bigger ?

As a final exclamation point on this entry it is worthwhile here to note this startling fact from historical documents.

As a DIRECT result and consequence of the Nation of Israel continuous reaction to their FEARS that is to say, NOT trusting in God’s Sovereignty, disobedience, and trying to bargain with God as to the fulfillment of His will for their place as His chosen people, out of the original and estimated 3 MILLION children of Israel left Egypt a free nation by God’s awesome power and deliverance, ONLY 2 men ; Joshua and Caleb remained to cross the Jordan River into the Promised Land !

So the next time you have any problem, any circumstance, any issue take it to The Lord in prayer.

Quiet your spirit. Repent of all sin known and unknown. Listen for His still quiet voice. Seek His will for you life and specifically for the circumstances of your FEARS. Then have the courage to step out in faith and ACT ! Trust God. Believe in God. Obey God.

He wants you to have an abundant life my friend !

You were NOT made to cower in FEAR !

You were wonderfully and fearfully made !

You were created in the image of the Creator of the Universe, dwell on that for just 1 minute !

When your FEARS are telling you that YOU are too small to handle them….

Tell them that YOUR GOD IS BIGGER THAN THEY ARE !

AMEN !

As I was watching a bit of the news earlier today and thinking about this latest series on FEAR the news started to talk about the Hollywood writer’s strike and I was lead to this latest entry.

Picture it. Moses( played by Charleston Hesston ) standing on top of that cliff, the chariots are coming!

The Egyptian host is bearing down on the nation of Israel as they are led by God across the brutal and unforgiving wilderness on their journey to the Promised land.

They are trapped against the shores of the Red Sea. No escape. No retreat.

A gigantic tactical blunder ?

Then we hear that famous line…..

…..”fear not, stand still, today you will see the Salvation of the Lord ! ( or something to that effect )

Man, I’m getting goose bumps just thinking about that dramatic scene of God’s ultimate power, Sovereignty, and control over EVERY situation ! Any perceived or very real threat, any problem, any FEAR.

OK, I hear you out there….hey Brian….that was like what 4,000.…8,000 years ago….who cares right?

The world is a lot different now than it was way back then, those people were not as “sophisticated” as were are now right ?

You’re right my friend, the world IS different today than it was back then…..ITS WORSE !

But I have great news for you….the world has changed but God HAS NOT !

He is the SAME Great I AM that made a way through the Red Sea for His chosen people that He is right now, this VERY SECOND you are reading this !

Think about it…if God Has changed in ANY way He wouldn’t BE God and we are all just nothing but

Freak accidents of an infinite number of variables randomly coming together in the vastness of the universe with an infinite amount of time……whew ! My brain is just aching at the thought of all this randomness !

Lets be real here shall we ?

To me it takes a substantialy larger amount of faith to believe that EVERYTHING came from NOTHING !

Let me say that again…!

IF GOD IS NOT GOD…..EVERYTHING CAME FROM NOTHING !

Folks, there is no gray areas. No middle ground ! You either believe or don’t believe, that is what faith is after all isn’t it ? Believing with your very soul what your senses cannot empirically prove !

Fear ? There is nothing wrong with fear. It is a natural defense mechanism blueprinted onto your brain by your Almighty Creator, that same God that we must trust in to deliver us from our darkest FEARS.

How you respond to your FEAR is the real question here folks. That is what will make the difference in your life. You can do what the enemy hopes you will do.

Don’t trust God to deliver you in your time of need.

Don’t rely on God for His strength NOT yours.

Don’t believe God will keep His promise to never forsake you not leave you.

FEAR ?

What will be YOUR response beloved ?

So you think you have had a less then cordial family reunion ?

Imagine this for a moment. You are getting ready to meet face to face with a man for the first time in 20 years. You have cheated this man, by guile and cunning, out of his rightful inheritance to his father’s great wealth in gold, silver, titles, great expanses of lush and fertile farm land and grazing pastures, and massive herds of extremely valuable animals and beasts of burden that were critical to the very survival of large numbers of people in the context of this time period.

You have stolen this man’s very birthright over a simple bowl of legume stew !

Oh….that’s right I almost forgot…..HE IS YOUR OLDER BROTHER by a few short minutes !

My friend, how would you be feeling at that moment ?

Anxious ?

Uncomfortable ?

Scared to death at the very real prospect that you may not live through the night at the hands of your brother’s long seated rage. Bitterness, festering anger, and some would say a very warranted sense of injustice?

This was to prove to be a pivotal moment in Jacob’s life.

Instead of doing what the world would say to do.

That is, run away to save your own hide.

Commission “hit-men” to finish the job and remove your rival then take everything he has left.

Instead of doing what every fiber of his humanity was probably telling him to do at that precise moment Jacob did the RIGHT THING.

He did what God wants us to do. Bring all of our fears to Him. Trust Him to fight our battles for us.

Rely on His strength, not ours !

Jacob got on his knees and prayed….He prayed HARD !

The next time you are facing your own FEAR….your own pain and suffering, your own misery, your own lack of control….

Do what Jacob did.

Fall on your knees before our loving and All Powerful Heavenly Father, submit to His absolute and Sovereign Deity and control over EVERY situation. Big or small, HE KNOWS THEM ALL !

Come before the one who loves you with a love beyond our human capacity to understand.

Fall prostrate if you have to and cry out to His Majesty, His Holiness, His Unlimited Power, Glory, and Resources and worship Him.

Don’t worry my child of the Most High God.

Do NOT get caught up on “man’s idea” of worship.

Jesus said it Himself. Our Heavenly Father IS OUR Father, come to Him as ANY small child go their loving earthly father. Open, innocent, secure and trusting.

That is how our Heavenly Father desires our love.

Without reservation or condition. In a total sense of safety and reassurance that He ONLY wants the very best for us…..

AND WE MUST REMEMBER THAT IN HIS UNLIMITED POWER…..HE CAN ! J

When you are afraid. FEAR NOT….for God is with you and will love you and promises He will never forsake you, abandon you, or allow you to go through ANYTHING that you can’t endure.

How does He know ?

HE IS GOD.

He knew you while you were still a spirit in Heaven waiting to be “assigned” to your earthly family before even the moment of your conception !

What are YOU afraid of ?

Be strong my friend !

Be a “Jacob” and stand your ground against your FEARS relying on God’s infinite strength to pull you through and to overcome.

YOU are created in His image !

The image of El Shaddai !

The image of Adonnai !

The image of the Great I AM !

The awesome image of NO LIMITS ! NO TIME ! NO BEGINNING ! NO ENDING ! OMNIPOTENT !

FROM EVERLASTING TO EVERLASTING ! THE ALPHA AND OMEGA ! PURE MAJESTY ! PURE POWER ! PURE LOVE ! PURE MIND ! PURE SPIRIT ! PURE LIGHT ! PURE ENERGY !

Focus on God and NOT on your FEARS !

They WILL fall before Him every time !
