Like Sands through the Hour Glass, these are the musings of a Retired School Marm and Lady of Leisure.

They tryin' to make me go to Re-Hab, but I say No, No, No.
They tryin' to make me go to Re-Hab, but I won't go, go, go.
........Amy Winehouse

I'm stuck in a Catch-22. The School District won't let me be! LMAO! Those of you that know me, know how I love being retired.

Well my former employers just won't stop. Last year, it was through several offers and entreaties to come back and be a substitute teacher at $100 per day. Money was dangled, and when that didn't work they used guilt. Being immune to guilt, that didn't work either...LOL.

This year, the stakes have gone up and my interest is still not up, but they did get my attention!

Here's the deal:

I received a letter a few days ago asking me to come and help the Fort Worth Independent School District as a contract employee assisting teachers in the math class and possibly working 1-on-1 with students or in small groups. The rate of pay as a retired contract math teacher would be $265/day Full-Time or if I want Part-Time, the rate is $28/hour (with me setting the number of hours and the number of days per week)...Sweet! And I keep my retirement check too!

Now some of you in other states probably think that this is not much, but in Texas...that's a nice collection for a little country church...LOL

Now, me? I'm not going back to work, but they finally got my attention...Yes, they finally got my attention.
What would you do if you were me?

The Obedient Wife
The Obedient Wife magnify

There was a man who had worked all of his life, had saved all of his money and was a real miser when it came to his money.
Just before he died, he said to his wife, "When I die, I want you to take all my money and put it in the casket with me. I want to take my money to the afterlife with me."

And so he got his wife to promise him with all of her heart that when he died she would put all of the money in the casket with him.

Well, he died. He was stretched out in the casket, his wife was sitting there in black, and her friend was sitting next to her. When they finished the ceremony, just before the undertakers got ready to close the casket, the wife said, "Wait just a minute!"
She had a box with her and she went over with the box and put it in the casket. The undertakers then locked the casket down and they rolled it away.

So her friend said, "Girl, I know you weren't fool enough to put all that money in there with your husband."

The loyal wife replied, "Listen, I'm a Christian. I can't go back on my word. I promised him that I was going to put that money in that casket with him."
"You mean to tell me you put all of that money in the casket with him?"

"I sure did," said the wife. "I got it all together, put it into my account and wrote him a check. If he can cash it, he can spend it."

Happy 4th, everyone!

Notes from Forest Hill

Approximately 2000 people were evacuated from Granbury, Texas due to flash floods. This photo was on the front page of Thursday's newspaper. This is about 30 miles from my home.

Insects are multiplying, the animals are getting nervous, "Evan Almighty" just opened at the local theater and the rain just won't stop.

Water water everywhere and not a drop to drink.

...and the beat goes on

Summer Solstice
Summer Solstice magnify

Notes from Forest Hill (NoCenTex)

Today is the Summer Solstice. To me that is a day for outdoor activities, or at least leisure time in my backyard. What I had planned for today is leisure time in my backyard. I wanted to grab my chaise cushion, along with my favorite trashy novel (At this time it is Book 3 of the Dresden Files series), my laptop and a pitcher of iced tea, and plop myself down for a few hours enjoying the summer-ness of it all.

Well, they say that if you want to make God laugh, just make plans. LOL

Here in NoCenTex, we have had rain off-and-on for the last 3 months. This is wonderful for my beautiful grass and trees, but there are parts of The Fort Worth area that have been evacuated (as in Katrina Flooding) because of severe flash flooding (if the ground is already saturated, additional rainwater [even a little bit] has nowhere to go, so it is not absorbed...therefore, floods). The airwaves have been bombarded recently with photos of floating cars, mobile homes off their wheels, and the tragedies in Greenville, Texas to our North.

By now you can guess, it has rained again today (worse than yesterday) and my backyard is water-logged.

The above photo is of Solstice 2005. I look at that photo and then look at my backyard, then back at the photo. I can only shake my head, grab my book and hit the Living Room couch. I have my iced tea with me and my trusty laptop, but it is not the same.

I know that it may not rain tomorrow. Things could be hot dry and sunny all day, but to me there is something about the Equinoxes (equal days) and the Solstices (long/short days) that I have loved since I found out about them in 3rd grade science class. I celebrate them...I do special things (shopping, cooking a special meal or just taking the time to smell the roses) and always have. It has nothing to do with worshiping nature or anything like that...they're just my little holidays, and have been since childhood.

Comment or not, this is just my June 21st.

The Purina Diet
I have a friend by the name of Randy. He is a wonderful man who has the driest sense of humor that I have ever encountered. He sent me this nugget of humor and I thought I would share it with you, my 360 friends. All I can say is that I would have paid money to have been there.

I was in Wal-Mart buying a large bag of Purina for my dogs and was in line to check out. A woman behind me asked if I had a dog........Duh!

I was feeling a bit crabby so on impulse, I told her no, I was starting the Purina Diet again, although I probably shouldn't because I'd ended up in the hospital last time, but that I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in an intensive care unit with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms. Her eyes about bugged out of her head.

I went on and on with the bogus diet story and she was totally buying it. I told her that it was an easy, inexpensive diet and that the way it works is to load your pockets or purse with Purina nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry. The package said the food is nutritionally complete so I was going to try it again.

I have to mention here that practically everyone in the line was by now enthralled with my story, particularly a tall guy behind her. Horrified, she asked if something in the dog food had poisoned me and was that why I ended up in the hospital.

I said no.....I'd been sitting in the street licking my butt when a car hit me.

I thought the tall guy was going to have to be carried out the door.
