Suited Connecters.'
Suited connectors are playable and can be very profitable, but be carefull not to play them out of position.
If you play them in early position and you get raised, you often have to lay them down.
I would recommend playing them in late position and on the button, especiallly when there are a few callers in front of you.
Let's say you have 8-9 of Diamonds and you are on the button in a $200 no-limit holdem game.
There are 3 callers in front of you, so you also call, and so do the SB en BB.
Now the flop comes 5(d) - 6(d) A(h)
This is a great flop for you; you have an inside straight and straight flush draw as well as a flush draw.
With this kind of flop you are looking for a way to get all you chips in on the flop if possible.
If there's action in front of you, i would recommend raising pretty big on the flop !
The only hand you have to be afraid of in this case is a set, but even then if you get your money in on this flop and you are up against a set, you still have a lot of outs .
Next time some tips about how to play A-A and K-K (monsters) in no-limit holdem pre-flop !
Later....
Positional Play.
Position is one of the most important things in Poker.
Hands are becoming more valuable when you move up in position, where is sitting " (right on the left of the blinds) the worst position and the "button" the best position.
Why is this so ?
Well, lets say you start out with A-9 in first position; this is not a great hand to play with 9 players behind you (assuming you're in a ring game), so you might get a few callers and or a raise.
The problem is when someone raises you , you have a clear fold, so this play will cost you money.
Now let''s say you are on the button now, first of all you can watch the action in front of you, so you have a good idea of what is going on.
When you decide to play the hand, and call or raise you are in a priviliged position.
"YOU ARE LAST TO ACT ON THE FLOP, TURN AND RIVER !!! ""
This fact is of real importance in Poker, whether limit or no-limit.
Tomorrow more on this matter !!
See you then,
Robert

Small Pocket Pairs in NL Holdém
Today I will talk about playing small pocket pairs in a ring-game (10-handed) No-Limit Holdém game, blinds $1-$2
At this limit (realatively small , but not that small) I will limp in with any small pocket pair from almost any position.
For the reason that at this limit their isnt too much raising going on pre flop, so that you can see the flop cheaply.
And if somebody raises to $6 or$8 I can still decide if I want to call or not !
This depending on how many more people called the raise; the more the better, because you get more value in the pot for you money.
Example :
You are in 3rd position and you limp in with 5-5, seat 6 calls, seat 7 calls, the button raises to $7,
the BB also calls , So now its up to you, you have a call here, and seat 6 and 7 also call.
Now there is $ 35 in the pot; so you get your money 1-4 on the flop ; your hit % on the flop is 1-7.5.
But if you do hit, you are likely to get more money out of it, so this makes it a profitable play
Now the flop comes : 5(h) - 10(d) - (Kd)
Great flop for you !!, it is likely players flopped something also on the flop.
How to play further ? You have to bet out immediately on the flop, and not slowplay it, because there is a fair chance that for instance the Button has A-K, and another player has a flush draw or straight draw,
So you bet $24 (not too little , not too much).
Seat 7 calls and the button calls too.
Now there is $107 in the pot ; lets assume you all started out with the maximum for this table ($200).
This means so far you invested $31 in this pot.
The Turn comes 3(c), so the board : 5(h) - 10(d) - K(d) - 3(c)
Good card for you of course, so now what ?
The button probably has A-K , and seat 7 probably has a draw or a k too (maybe K-Q, K-J).
Ok you have to bet again, this time $80, because you cant make it cheap for you opponents if they on a draw, plus there is a good change the A-K will pay you off, because he''s kind of guessing what kind of hand you have, since you came out betting out on the flop.
Ok, so seat 7 mucks and the button after long thinking calls.
The river comes the 9(c), so the board : 5(h) - 10(d)- K(d) - 3(c) - 9(c)
So there is now $267 in the pot ,and you have left $89 in front of you and your opponent too.
Of course on the river you bet the rest of your $89 stack , although their is a possible straight on the board; which is unlikely for your opponent to have.
Now suppose the river comes the 7(d) instead of the 9(c) , what to do now ?
Bet like $50, if he raises you , you call. This way you will get value out of the hand in the long term, because if he has A-K he will call the $50.
It would be wrong to check here, because you are scared for the flush !!

There are 3 main subjects I am going to write about in the coming months :
1. SKILL
2. PSYCHOLOGY
3. BANKROLL MANAGEMENT
In this first item i will say some things about Bankroll Management.
What is a Bankroll ?
A Bankroll is the amount of money you got available to play poker.
Let's say your a have a daytime job earning you about $2300 a month.
Every month after paying all the bills, savings, and holiday reservations you have left about $300 which your are willing to spend on poker.
And lets assume this goes for every month.
This means your starting Bankroll is $300, but your real (actual) bankroll is higher.
$3600 for a year.
I assume that you want to continue playing the whole year, and set your bankroll according to it.
For instance if you start out playing No-limit Holdem, I recommend playing no higher then $25 -$50 with the above Bankroll.
The main object of holding a Bankroll is to avoid going broke, and to set your limits , so that when you experiencing a bad run, your Bankroll can stand against it !!
When you play too high according to your bankroll, you will get broke sooner or later.
Poker is a game of skill, and even if you are good enough to beat the game, it doesnt mean you cant suffer a bad run of cards.
So this is why holding a bankroll and sticking to it is so important !!!
It doesnt really matter how high your bankroll is, everyone can start playing and built it up gradually.
I know a guy, who started out with $50 14 months ago, and is now playing 10-20 no-limit (4 tables) and making $15-20.000 a month.
But he's an exceptional good player.
Others are making 7-8.000 a month (including me) or 3-4.000
It doesnt really matter, everyone who start out making money will get this great feeling of joy and pride in themselves !
But remember, start out slowly and always keep an eye on your bankroll !!!
Thats it for today, hope you enjoyed my first article and see you tomorrow !
