Well, the wheat stalks were really waving last night at the Shawnee Mission Unitarian Church. They had said to get there early,and I did @ 6:15pm for what I thought would be a pretty straightforward and punctual caucus. But, was I surprised as I turned on 87th street into a sea of red tailights and white headlights! After about 15 minutes to travel three blocks and, see a line of about 400 plus people standing in front of the church; I went to find a parking spot about 5 blocks away. After walking from my parking spot and joining the people in line it had snaked 2-3 blocks away from the Caucus Center.And, by the time we finally moved up into the courtyard word had it, that the line now behind us was 5-6 blocks long. We stood in the freezing cold, rain, drizzle, sleet and snow for almost 3hours before we made it into the warm church.

The pastor even had come out during our wait, and gave permission for us to come into his parsonage to warm up. But, we were told we couldn't get out of line, so needless to say many of us were just about frost-bitten by the time we got into the actual caucus center. During our wait we may have lost about 1,000 people who left upset with the conditions and the wait. But, many of us had the resolve that we wanted to show Senator Obama and the national media, the resolve of Kansas Democrats, Independents and re-registered Republicans; that the media couldn't just mark us automatically in the beginning of precinct reporting, that we were just a RED STATE!
