The Fight for Equality: Day 4
The Fight for Equality: Day 4 magnify
What bigotry has wrought.

Religious erotophobes nationwide are starting to feel the heat brought on by the passage of Proposition 8 in California. The amnedment to the states constitution relegates marriage to only a union between a male and a female, shutting out same-sex unions.

But instead of victory, those who allowed themselves to be swayed by a series of half-truths and outright lies are feeling a firestorm of rage by people who will not just sit docily and allow thier rights to evaporate.

In short, payback IS, indeed, a mutherf*cker.

In the land of Brigaham Young, non-hetosexuals and thier supporters are protesting the LDS Church as co-conspiritors in this travesty:

Opponents of a measure that banned gay marriage in California took their outrage to the spiritual hub of Mormonism on Friday.
More than 3,000 people swarmed downtown Salt Lake City to march past the LDS temple and church headquarters, protesting Mormon involvement in the campaign for California's Proposition 8. The measure, which defined marriage as exclusively between a man and a woman, passed this week.
A sea of signs in City Creek Park, where the march began, screamed out messages including, "I didn't vote on your marriage," "Mormons once persecuted . . . Now persecutors," and "Jesus said love everyone." Others read, "Proud of my two moms" and "Protect traditional marriage. Ban divorce."
Former Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson and three openly gay state legislators, Sen. Scott McCoy and Reps. Jackie Biskupski and Christine Johnson, spoke out in support. At one point, the crowd took up the mantra made famous by the country's new president-elect: "Yes, we can!"
Then, the masses headed west, weaving between cars, waving at those who watched from windows in the LDS Church Office Building and shouting chants such as: "What do we want? Equality! When do we want it? Now!"
Across the street on North Temple, a group of about 50 - the majority not LDS members - defended the church's support of the successful ballot measure. "The people voted," they shouted at the protesters. "YOU are intolerant!"
Others screamed: "Marriage is between a man and woman. You'll never be a man and woman!"
Some marchers offered heated arguments to the counterprotesters, others responded by kissing their partners. The romantic moments were greeted with cheers.

Head of Focus-on-the-Freaks....errrrrr.....Family, James Dobson, also has blood on his hands for this....about $800,000 worth, which his group donated for the cause.

Now tonight (11/8) he is being inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame, an organization which, like so many others, seems to have been co-opted by the Clear Channel/Salem wing of the business. Dobson will be there to accept. And he'll have company....

CHICAGO - Focus on the Family's James Dobson spent $800,000 on Proposition 8 to stop gay people form marrying in California. Tonight, this dangerous ideologue will be inducted into the Museum of Broadcast Communication's Radio Hall of Fame in Chicago.

He will be met with a protest from outraged gay organizations at 5:30 PM this evening, November 8, outside of the Renaissance Chicago Hotel, 1 W. Wacker Drive (corner of Wacker & State).

"It is mind-blowing, that the Radio Hall of Fame would honor a primary leader of Proposition 8," said Wayne Besen, Executive Director of Truth Wins Out. "Dobson put his Media Empire and vast amounts of money into the service of denying equal marriage rights for same-sex couples. And, the Radio Hall of Fame reacts disgracefully by giving this demagogue a trophy."

"If Dobson had helped organize and fund a campaign to take away African American voting rights, he would be properly shunned as a hater,'" said Bob Schwartz of the Gay Liberation Network. "However, because the Museum of Broadcast Communications has chosen instead to honor Dobson, they apparently think it's okay to promote those who publicly organize discrimination against gays."

It is ironic that the Museum will be honoring a promoter of hate like Dobson, while at the same time many mourn the recent passing of journalistic legend Studs Turkel, whom the Museum never got around to honoring.

The campaign against the honoring of Dobson was initiated by the Gay Liberation Network (www.GayLiberation.net) and Truth Wins Out (www.TruthWinsOut.com and www.DumpDobson.com), and endorsed by dozens of groups and individuals signing on to a series of full-page protest signature advertisements.

And as protesters filled the streets in San Francsisco, Los Angeles, Long Beach, and Palm Springs, the city of Santa Cruz, CA may be taking a more forceful tact:

SANTA CRUZ -- City leaders could be joining other cities around the state in a lawsuit to challenge the passage of Proposition 8 -- the successful measure that took away the right of same-sex couples to marry -- on the grounds the measure is unconstitutional.

"It's an important issue and the city needs to play a role," said Mayor Ryan Coonerty, who hopes to bring the proposal before the City Council at its Nov. 25 meeting.

Coonerty said he was especially motivated to bring the issue up after hastily marrying gay couples last weekend and on Election Day that were worried they would not have the right to wed much longer.

"It's shocking that people are forced into these situations, where they're rushing to get married because they don't know what their legal status will be," Coonerty said. "It's shameful."

Voters on Tuesday overturned this year's state Supreme Court ruling that made gay marriage possible. Proposition 8 amends California's Constitution to define marriage as between a woman and a man.

Coonerty said the city would likely join a suit with leaders in San Francisco to argue that the proposition was illegal because it took away a fundamental constitutional right from a select group of people. Before such propositions can go to the ballot, supporters allege, the state Legislature must approve them. That did not happen. Full story here: http://www.mercurynews.com/centralcoast/ci_10934458

But what is really astonishing is the fact that those who voted yes on 8 really believed that those who had thier rights stolen would simply just crawl back into thier caves and leave us good 'phobes alone. Whites in Mississippi circa 1964 had that same idea. That was a crock then and it is now. To whit.....

Prop. 8 backers have been writing...to say they have been shocked at the vehemence of the reaction to their "Yes on Prop. 8" yard signs and bumper stickers. A woman, who asked to be identified as "Kathy in Pleasanton," because she fears retaliation, detailed a list of encounters.

"I've had eggs thrown at me, been accused of being a homophobe, and was even tailgated home from the Oakland airport (all the way to Pleasanton) by a man who cornered my car and screamed at me because of our 'Yes on 8' bumper sticker," she said. "I'm a small woman, it was late at night, so this was very frightening."

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/11/07/BAGD140G16.DTL

Ahhhh, Kathy.....maybe the reason you were being treated like a homophobe is, well.....YOU ARE A HOMOPHOBE!

Look, I do not want violence, and people should be left alone, but those who voted for this, and those who propogated the lies that lead to its passage have to realize the firestorm that is hitting you is one of your own making. People have simply had it with the mob trying to force thier standards and so-called morals on them.

And you know what you are fighting. First you nullify gays, lesbians, and bisexuals. Porn people are next, then the fetish folk, the swingers, others outside the norm. The finally the Grand Prize, those so-called normal people who happen to have sex outside of marriage, either by affair or committment, and finally those committed, monogamous people who commit the sin of having sex for purposes other than repopulating the race. Your main goal is to control the behavior of every living being on the planet

So now, we know the stakes. Total freedom or total enslavement. Tuesday was thier Pearl Harbor. But now all of us have to decide which side we will be on. There is not equivication. It is all or nothing. I choose freedom. And woe to those who chose the side of enslavement on Tuesday...and especially those whose lies pushed it through. Tuesday was not the end.....but the beginning.

I'm Scared
I am frightened.
I really started sometime yesterday. As many of you who are linked to me on Multiply know, I posted a video yesterday: Naomi Wolf talking about how we seem to be in the last days of what we know as freedom in these United States. I was a pretty scary piece, but I realized afterwards that it could very well be the rantings of a very attractive paranoiac. I mean, US troops already deployed on US soil, c'mon! Its like we're getting ready for some....race war or something, huh?
Then I started listening to a Olbermann mp3 of a few days ago: suggesting that with the impromptu shouts of "kill him" directed at Barack Obama at Sarah Palin rallies that the McCain camp is, if only in silence, inciting to riot:
The inference is that if Obama wins, there would be an undercurrent that would lead to his assassination. What Olbermann does not mention....and as you know I love the man dearly....is that if that logic is followed and, for some reason, Obama does not win, non-whites would riot. Many second-and-third-tier conservative radio bloviators have already blurted that idea out.
And what is really not mentioned is that there are people on both sides, frustrated, art the end of their respective ropes, who would do just that.
Then there is this gay marriage thing.
As some of you know, there is an amendment to our ever-growing state Constitution in Cal-lee-fornia that would erase the freedoms won by same-sex couples to marry each other, granted by the courts earlier this year. This afternoon, on my way to this terminal, I was confronted by smiling, pink-faced young maidens holding yellow signs saying "Prop8=Free Speech!" "Prop 8=Religious Freedom!" And such.
Never has bigotry looked so........wholesome.
Most bigotry stems from fear, and Prop 8 is fuel my the hi-test kind. Donald Wildmon, head of the American Family Association (and a favorite target of mine, I must admit) has said that if 8 fails, the so-called "culture war" would be lost.
The kind of rhetoric being used by the anti-gay agitators pretty much cements the idea that legalized same-sex marriage in any way, shape, form, or fashion, would cause the end of the Age, and bring on the wrath of God.
For instance, the words of Orson Scott Card, an author who has stated, very plainly, how he feels about gays getting hitched....

"Regardless of law, marriage has only one definition, and any government that attempts to change it is my mortal enemy. I will act to destroy that government and bring it down, so it can be replaced with a government that will respect and support marriage, and help me raise my children in a society where they will expect to marry in their turn. Only when the marriage of heterosexuals has the support of the whole society can we have our best hope of raising each new generation to aspire to continue our civilization.." -Orson Scott Card

Now if you feel like that, and you find out on November 6th that Ellen and Portia are still legally married, you might not feel so happy.

Some people might even feel angry. Enough for violence, maybe.

Now turn the tables around. You are gay, and and you are married, and now the people of the state say that you can't.

See where I'm heading......

And then there is this: we have been waiting for eight years for OBL to drop the other shoe. Maybe this is.....it:

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, Oct. 17 -- Four of the five main online forums that al-Qaeda's media wing uses to distribute statements by Osama bin Laden and other extremists have been disabled since mid-September, monitors of the Web sites say. The disappearance of the forums on Sept. 10 -- and al-Qaeda's apparent inability to restore them or create alternate online venues, as it has before -- has curbed the organization's dissemination of the words and images of its fugitive leaders. On Sept. 29, a statement by the al-Fajr Media Center, a distribution network created by supporters of al-Qaeda and other Sunni extremist groups, said the forums had disappeared "for technical reasons," and it urged followers not to trust look-alike sites. For al-Qaeda, "these sites are the equivalent of pentagon.mil, whitehouse.gov, att.com," said Evan F. Kohlmann, an expert on online al-Qaeda operations who has advised the FBI and others. With just one authorized al-Qaeda site still in business, "this has left al-Qaeda's propaganda strategy hanging by a very narrow thread."-http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/10/17/AR2008101703367.html?hpid=topnews

Now according to the reports, somehow these websites were taken down and they can't get them back up again. As if someone attacked them and now they are disabled. But then, if you remember there was a lot of "chatter" before That Day, then everything went silent. Maybe they don't need to blog anymore. Maybe the have now decided what to do.
Then you go back to Noami Wolf's video that I posted yesterday. The point that got to me was the fact that the men who control Bush have shifted day-to-day control of the 3rd Infantry's 1st Brigade Combat Team to be used to battle "civil disturbances."
What "civil disturbances?" See the above.
And one other thing. The country's finances are in a mess. And that's a nice way to put it. Because of this we have seen some pretty bizarre stuff, including CEO's of bankrupt, disgraced companies going to expensive spas to settle their nerves.
Phrases like "soak the rich," "spoiled rich," and average Americans described as "Joe the Plumber" fill the airwaves.
So we have rich vs poor, white vs black (and maybe both vs brown and or Asian), Gay/Bi vs hetro, left vs right, "main street" vs "Wall Street." All at a fever pitch. Throw in Al-Quida or whoever is in charge of terrorism here and all it takes is for something to happen.
Anything.
That is why I am frightened, because something could happen in the next few days that would pretty much guarantee the current bunch of Armageddonists to keep their positions. And now, I am not accusing either McCain or Palin of being in this bunch. Though I disagree with their politics and positions, I find them pretty decent people, as I find Obama, Biden, and (surprising to many) even to some extent Bush. But (and this is my own opinion only) the gang of thugs that have created situation to create thier own nirvana. Their intention to speed their own version of the Second Coming through harrowing event after event.
What it takes for this to work, though, are people who do not think. Who take defeat with honor. Who are willing to release their hatreds and bigotries, discard their taboos, and come together as humans. To work to solve problems instead of applying band-aids.
In other words, be civilized human beings for once.
But I do not see much chance of that happening.
That's why I'm scared.
Now I hope, all this has been has been the rantings of a frieghtened fool. That after this is all over all of the above would be so much silliness.
So why do I have that creeping feeling in the back of my neck that the above is less ranting and more phophetic?

Off the Grid
I am writing this (or at least starting to write this) on 9.29.08 at about 1:08pm PST.

It is possible that within one month from now, the government will be allowed to force me to marry someone I do not want to marry.

It is definite that, depending on who, I may not be able to fall in love with whoever based on a lot of things.

I am constantly reminded that I will, forever be tied to an economic system that regards me as, pretty much, a turd. The kind of turd, though, depend on who you talk to.

People running for office cannot come up with any solutions, or at best, the same old one-liners that do not work anymore.

Oh, did I mention today was the first day of the Great Depression of 2008?

Am I the only one who feels like this?

Good.

Then maybe we can do something about all this, together......or separately.

Now before I say anything, I need to mention this. I am not advocating the breaking of laws, though I know that many who are reading this may be, shall we say social, political, or even....dare I say it...sexual outcasts in this society. And I know that many who read this may not be in line with a lot of things others who read this are line up with.

But most of us agree on one thing.

It's time to get off the grid.

These are ideas. Some you might not agree with. Sorry....we are in a situation where you may be forced to conform. You need to be mobile and flexible in more ways than one.

That means, first, you need to be financially flexible. You need to start learning how money works and how you can make it work for you. For some, it will be a challenge, but you need to know how to do it, because...ultimately....if you are NOT mobile, you may very well be screwed in the place you are.

You might want to invest in the following:

  • Rich Dad Poor Dad, by Robert Kiyosaki. You may also want to get the companion Cashflow Quadrant.

  • The Financial Guidebook and Women & Money by Suze Ormond

There are many more, but you get the idea. Learn about money. How to grow it. How to use it. How to stop bitching about not having any.

In addition, add sites like http://www.cnbc.com/ and http://www.thestreet.com/ to your bookmarks.

Be smart when spending money. Know your power: we stopped buying gas and the impossible happened: the price of gas continues to go down, even as the price of oil has been going up. You have more power than you have. Use it.

Your next car should be a hybrid. Preferably a Hybrid SUV.

Start storing food. I'm not saying become a survivalist, but invest in a freezer and start storing meat. For any canned goods you get, store some away. You are gathering nuts for the winter. And it will be a cold one.

Start looking for land. Especially if you are an "outcast." You may want to find some place out of the way. Remember anything can be delivered. Investigate satellite TV, radio, and Internet. Ditto solar energy. Remember: goal 1 is to get off line as much as possible.

Oh, and by the way: PAY YOUR TAXES. If you are getting smart with money you may be making more of it, so write the check. Don't, there will be snoopin'.

And one more thing: if someone comes to you with an idea for creating money, like a businees, don't shine them on so fast. Many opportunities, such as Avon, Amway Global, and Herbalife, have been very successful. I know many of the people in these organizations are pretty much on the conservative side. Remember, you are not doing these things to engage in lively conversation. You are doing these things to save your ass. And what ever it takes, do. At least do the do diligence and have an open mind.

Now that we have covered financial, political:

Step one: vote.

Step two: see step one.

I know....you may not be happy with what is out there. I certainly am not. But remember what I said...everything you are doing is to save your ass. And you can't do that with things that will not go into fruition. Look at VIABLE candidates....those that have at least a 50% shot at winning (sorry NaderFan, its not going to happen). Put ideology aside and find the ones who come closest to how you feel about things. Work for that candidate. Then if he/she wins....ride them like a bronco....or a hot lover (or maybe they are one in the same.....you never know). Ask direct questions. Stay informed (http://news.google.com/ for starters). Do not let them off the hook.

In terms of being informed, read. Fill yourselves not just with people you agree with bit people you do not. Remember most of the sheeple are people who are ON the grid, and you are trying to get off.

I do want to make one thing clear....when I say "off the grid," again, I am not talking about some rustic existence in the woods someone in Oregon, though for some, it may be a real option. But what I AM saying is that if you continue to stay on the grid, you will be exposing yourself to things like the market crash of today and other things that may effect your live adversely, especially if your views on certain thing lay outside of the mainstream.

Which leads to my final suggestion. Network to find others like you. Not just "friend collectors" on social sites, but people you can confide in, who you can care for and they care for you. People who will not flinch when you talk about your life because they may have had the same experiences too. And there maybe be more than you think.

Know who your friends are. Ask questions. If you get "that funny feeling," walk away,

But if you find that person, stay with him/her/them. Find a way to stay in contact off line, for the wrong thing said can get a person kicked of of places like Multiply and MySpace.

And you are going to need friends in the next 10 years.

Stick together

Some people should keep thier pie holes SHUT!

Our ASS-teemed Chief of Po-leece in LA for instance:

Lohan fires back at police 'gay' remark

Lindsay Lohan said Friday that police have no business getting involved in her personal life, a day after the police chief explained that the paparazzi were no longer an issue — in part because the 22-year-old actress had evidently "gone gay."

"Police chiefs shouldn't get involved in everyone else's business when it comes to their personal life. It's inappropriate," Lohan said in a video shot by paparazzi Friday and posted on TMZ.com. In the footage, Lohan and gal pal Samantha Ronson are trekking through the Los Angeles Airport on their way to catch a flight to Chicago.

The day before, Chief William Bratton said the paparazzi have become less of a problem thanks to Britney Spears, Paris Hilton and Lohan leading more moderate lifestyles.

"If you notice, since Britney started wearing clothes and behaving; Paris is out of town not bothering anybody anymore, thank God, and evidently, Lindsay Lohan has gone gay, we don't seem to have much of an issue," he told KNBC-TV.

Bratton was speaking about his refusal to participate in a meeting held by elected officials Thursday that was called to discuss new laws to curb problem paparazzi.

He called Los Angeles City Councilman Dennis Zine's special session — which was attended by the likes of John Mayer, Eric Roberts and Milo Ventimiglia — "a complete waste of time."

Bratton later called a news conference outside police headquarters to clarify his position on the paparazzi. When asked about the Lohan remark — which followed months of tabloid speculation that Lohan and Ronson, a DJ, are dating — Bratton said his sister is gay and he is a proponent of gay rights.

Suggesstion: Maybe you should spend more time trying to lock up the gangbangers that have turned the North Valley into a pool of blood rather than comment on a realtionship that you may not know anything about.....Chief.
