There is always a lot of talk about Social Media Marketing but I find that even though a lot of people have heard of places like Digg, squidoo, facebook, mixx etc. they actually don't know how they work ,or more importantly, how they can help their business's! My colleague and I have set up a board specifically to explore the differences between, networking, bookmarking and generic media marketing. It is nearly a year to the day that I first built my new forum. I had no idea whether anyone would appreciate it or join it but I went into it with my eyes open. I know lots of forums fail but I felt I wanted to give it a go as I thought there was a gap of forums for store owners with independant web sites.
One year, 10000 posts, 214 members, and lots of friendships later, we are still going strong and growing daily. Not everyone sticks around, many are just passing through but the people that have stayed are wonderful, generous and helpful store owners who will go out of their way to help other store owners on their journey to independence.

Well 11 months on and 187 members to date. We have created a neat way of getting the members together and sharing information and support. It is called Pickaday! Every Friday is a different pickday and this Friday 7th March is called Vote/Rate Day. This is a day where we visit each other Social Media sites and "show some love". We vote, comment, rate and add each other as friends. I am really excited as I cant wait to see what impact this day may have. We shall be doing it again and again if is is successful. Well I did return to the UK and I am just about settled.
I have hardly spent any time online since I began my journey in August last year because 'living' just got in the way. It is so nice to be back. I have missed being online, chatting to friends and networking and promoting my stores.
Still feel like I am playing 'catch up' but feel the thrust of the momentum happening.

It is true that fundamentally it exists as a tool to promote online stores and a venue to learn about selling online but it really is so much more than that. There are real friendships and we share so much more than tips and tricks..we share life..that is why it's called Totally Shameless Self Indulgent Forum
