Sharing thoughts, ideas, opinions, interests, photos with the world-just a glimpse of what makes me tick
This is my last blog on Yahoo! 360 and I would like to thank all those people from Yahoo! 360 team who made this online journey a great experience. It's been 4 wonderful years of blogging on 360 thanks to a wonderful team who did their very best to allow us to blog despite the recent bugs and the problems.
My very special thanks to Rachel from Yahoo! 360 team who supported me through 360 when I was stalked and harassed by a group of morons. Please forgive me if I do not remember the other names as it wasn't just Rachel but a few other people from Yahoo! 360 who greatly helped me to safely get my account back when my password was hacked. Most importantly, I would like to thank all those great friends who were there for me . Thank you Bob A, Louis, Faith, Eve, Geri, Morris, Jim, Constantinos, Christoforos and many others for your love and support at what was a very hard online time for me.
Right now, I feel very glad and very excited for the new Yahoo! It's high time we moved on to new discoveries. I trust Yahoo! and I'm sure that the new experience- in the course of time - will be far greater than the one on 360. Thank you 360 from the bottom of my heart. I'm with you on this new journey and, most importantly, I trust you.
"It's not a goodbye, it's see you again" on the brand new Yahoo! So, yes, 360 is closing down on July 13th but , as far as I am concerned, I'm moving with them to the new Yahoo! You can export your 360 blogs there but not your testimonials or comments or RSS unless you download them! I haven't got a clue HOW! Any help would be greatly appreciated! Hope to see you soon on Yahoo!
Before I tell you how - it's so simple - I would like to thank my friend Ele who had the courtesy to email me the instrustions. To be fair, my friend Summer also sent me instructions but , to be very honest, they were quite complicated for me to understand. Not all of us are computer whizzes, I'm afraid.
So here's how
When you copy the embedded code from youtube delete the &hl=de&fs=1 (twice) now you are able to use this code in your blogThe last two weeks have been very hectic at work : extra lessons for the IGCSE examination, end-of-term reviews, preparing my final exam papers beginning next week are only a few of the tasks I had to complete by Friday 22. The good thing is that I love my work very much , so I didn't really mind working 12-15 hours daily. But I had to clear the decks before the final exams. So, this weekend I've made time to relax and unwind. Last night, Alkis and I had a super night out at Plakiotiko Restaurant with some great friends of ours. I got up rather late today but made time to post my online lessons and reply to comments. In a while, I'm off to the beach for the first swim of the year. It's a bright sunny day today, slightly windy with temperatures rising to 32*C.
I'll love you and leave you with some of my favourite Eurovision 2009 songs
Many thanks to my dear friend Ele for emailing me simple instructions on how to post a video on 360. I'll be posting these instructions soon for you all. Meanwhile enjoy your Sunday. Filakia xxxxxFrom the health point of view we are living in a marvellous age. We are practically immunised from birth against many of the most dangerous diseases. A large number of once fatal illnesses can now be cured by modern drugs and surgery. It is more than certain that one day remedies will be found for the most stubborn remaining diseases. The expectation of life has increased enormously. But though the possibility of living a long and happy life is greater than ever before, every day in Cyprus we witness the incredible slaughter of men , women and children on the roads. Man versus the motor car ! It is a never-ending battle which man is losing. In Cyprus, hundreds of people are killed or horribly mutilated each year and we are quietly sitting back and letting it happen.
It has been rightly said that when a man is sitting behind a steering wheel, his car becomes the extension of his personality. There is no doubt that the motor-car often brings out a man's very worst qualities. People who are normally quiet and pleasant may become unrecognisable when they are behind a steering-wheel. They swear, they are ill-mannered and aggressive, wilful as two-year olds and utterly selfish. All their hidden frustrations, disappointments and jealousies seem to be brought to the surface by the act of driving.
The surprising thing - at least in Cyprus - is that society smiles so benignly on the motorist and seems to condone his behaviour. Everything is done for his convenience! Cities are allowed to become almost uninhabitable because of heavy traffic; towns are made ugly by huge car parks; the countryside is desecrated by road networks; and the mass annual slaughter becomes nothing more than a statistic, to be conveniently forgotten in the course of time.
It is high time a world code were created to reduce this senseless waste of human life. With regard to driving, the laws of some countries are notoriously lax and even the strictest are not strict enough. A code which would be universally accepted could only have a dramatically beneficial effect on the accident rate. Here are a few examples of some of the things that might be done:
- The driving test should be standardised and made far more difficult than it actually is
- All drivers should be made to take a new driving test every 3 years or so
- The age at which young people are allowed to drive any vehicle should be raised to at least 21
- All vehicles - even the brand new - should be put through stingent annual tests for safety
- Even the smallest amount of alcohol in the blood can impair a person's driving ability. The alcotest , therefore, should prohibit even the slightest amount of alcohol. i like to drink when I go out ... but I never drive !! Thank God , we have many taxis !!! If you drink don't drive or if you drive don't drink - not even a pint of beer!
- Maximum and minimum speed limits ahould be imposed ON ALL ROADS ---including the city centre
- All advertising stressing power and performance should be banned for all manufacturers
- The elderly should not be allowed to drive after the age of 65... It could go hand in hand with retirement
These measures may sound inordinately harsh, but surely nothing should be considered as too severe if it results in reducing the annual toll of human lives on the roads ! Especially in Cyprus !
