My hope is to reach the oncoming generation for Christ. We must see young people become disciples.

Book of Psalms Devotional

The Dictionary gives the meaning for Devoted as: ardent, zealous, strongly attached. So when we use the word devotional for the Book of Psalms it carries this word; you are ardent, zealous, and strongly attached to this part of the word of God; and if you use this book of Psalms in relation to knowing God better, you will become more ardent, zealous, and strongly attached to Him.

Now I see a falling away from the Psalms by Christians. They do not really see the value of using this wonderful book of the Bible for all its worth. Paul infers in Colossians and Ephesians that learning and using this book along with other songs and hymns, will very much help in our life of Joy, and letting the word of God dwell in us richly. Eph 5:18-20 Col3:16-17.

We can classify or divide the psalm into 5 words or acts of devotion: Meditation, Spiritual experience, Songs or celebrations, Worship, Sorrows or Elegies. To use these related psalms in this way will really help you in your devotional life, so that you will be more: ardent, zealous, and strongly attached to Christ; really growing in what we call the love of God.

Again I will classify each Psalm in the posting as one of these for you use. I believe you will see as you study them they are very effective if used in this manner. Here is the list again.

1. Meditation. 2. Spiritual experience related by one man. 3. Songs or celebration. 4. Worship. 5. Sorrows or elegies.

I will also give a Title to each psalm to help you get a hold on the psalm, and also see the subject of the Psalm, this will help you and use them in a more a more real devotional act of life.

God bless you, please look over Psalm 1 and Psalm 2. Pray over These two Psalms. Psalms 1 and 2 are a great introduction to the rest of the psalms.

I find in the Bible, Psalms were used strongly to point to other scriptures. I think you will find that so, yes, you will become better acquainted with many other Parts of the Word of God.

The Tree and the Chaff

Psalm 1

strophic form *

THE TREE AND THE CHAFF
[a prefatory psalm]

Two Ways
1. Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
or stand in the way of sinners,
or sit in the seat of mockers.
2. But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
and on his law he meditates day and night.

Two Results
3. He is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither.
Whatever he does prospers.
4. Not so the wicked!
They are like chaff that the wind blows away.

Two Concluded Ends
5. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
6 For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.

Thought overall - see the rooted tree passing through its ordered course of foliage and fruitage and the empty chaff carried round and round by forces outside itself.

*Strophic: where stanzas fall into well marked division of thought but have no relation as to length or number of lines.

Entry for December 31, 2007

I hope you read my previous blog today. Now also I wish every body a happy New Year in Christ.

In him, (Christ) though as Paul says we need to be delivered from sorrow upon sorrow. So the answer to that is to stay close to him.

May this year we all make Psalm 91 as our daily goal. One way to do this is to offer this prayer desire of the Psalmest. "One thing have I asked of the Lord and that will I seek after, that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord and inquire in His Temple".
