I'm SANE! It's the people that run this place who are crazy.
This is the strange world of a Radical Geek. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
I should of wrote this a week ago, but now is when I'm getting around to it. November 30th I went to a local comedy show call Nipplepalooza III. This has nothing to do about nipples, but after a Worm Quartet song, "Smell my nipple win a prize." I've talked about him in the past. This time he brought some friends along to spread the insanity. Shoebox of Worm Quartet introduced Rochester fans to the artists Rob Balder, Carla Ulbrich, Ookla the Mok, and Sudden Death.
First one to take the stage was Rob Balder. Rob style was more rock/filk songs. Mostly he did parodies like goth chicks from Tennessee and getting his butt pelted with paint balls. Rob is one of the founding members of The FuMP (The Funny Music Project) and writes web comics Partially Clips and Erf World.
Next up was Worm Quartet which is 6' 4", 280 lb mulleted behemoth know as Shoebox. Worm Quartet is a synth-punk comedy music. I would describe him as the following. Take Frank Zappa, The Ramones, a casio keyboard and put it in a blender and set to puree. Once all of it is mix properly, pour into a mold that is 6' 4", half bake and totally fry. Then place a mullet on the top and there you go.
Then it was followed by Carla Ulbrich. She does funny country music. She didn't like the cold weather and driving in the snow. We told her that this is only a taste of the cold weather we get. As for her music she performed was about how she was hospitalized. Like being awakened at all hours of the night for tests, and how then put her on a diet where she lost her butt. She's from South Carolina and also sang a little about southern culture of the waffle house.
Then it was the boys from Buffalo called Ookla the Mok. They played songs about sci-fi and comic books. Nirvana for us nerds. Though there drummer Joe Pepper was no longer with the band so it was a just Adam English, Rand Bellavia and Wolfram Neff. The did a few song off their re-released album called Less then Art. I hope then can get a drummer so they can continue being a band.
Last performer was Sudden Death. A comedy rap group from New Jersey, well they aren't a group but a one man band fronted by Devo Spice aka Tom Rockwell. Sudden Death is was has been known as Nerdcore; nerdy hip-hop music. He raps about subjects like cell phones, wikipedia, computers crashing, spam e-mail and the drug companies. He has it timed with a video presentation running off his Mac.
The show was fun. It was passed my bed time but I was wired the whole night. There was talk about having something like this in the summer. I hope they do it during the outdoor music festivals like East End Fest. They would be exposed to a lot more people that wouldn't normally known that music like this exists. You know share the love or atleast the silliness.
