This is in response to those guys in Yahoo answer who had help educated me on DSLR. I'm just about the last person on this planet surface who had just gone digital. Well, at least I think the time is right. The quality is near film already, and that the price had tremedously gone down to earthman like me to be able to afford it.

OK. I've taking pictures since ages ago. A couple time during my college years, I moonlighted as photographer in several events here and there including wedding (not crashing in), and perhaps the most of all near experience to a professional photographer was when I was the only one official photographer of the Bangkok Tennis Classic, and another event during the Swedish famous Tennis player came to Thailand to play an exhibition tour. His name is really difficult to spell: I think Bjorn Bourge.
During the in door Tennis game, I had to carry three cameras; they were all Nikon (being FM2n, FE, and F3). The only reason for that was during those years the even host needed to have black and white for newspaper, slide for magazine, and colour for other things.
Having then had all film (in 1983 I think), and had to take in door pictures, we did a thing call push or poost it, meaning I had 400 ASA (they called ISO, ASA then), and I need to take pictures with zoom lens on those rapidly moving players, I need to pretend I had higher ASA film and told the developer that I pushed the film to 1600 ASA (something like that) in order that I can take pictures of tennis players in action.
Of course the first couple rolls of film came out bad, as the communications betwen me and the lab weren't that great, but after that they came out OK. With some of the pictures had some potential, but enough for them to pay my cab fares and lunches.
Last Wednesday, I went and bought this camera Nikon D300, my first semi-pro digital Single Lens Reflex after pre-order it for several months already. It was the first delivery day for Nikon D300, and I was the brave one to purchase it. Several 'Pros' went to NIKs Thailand, the sole agent, to try their hands on. I wonder whether I was the first one to really bought it on the first day. Well, the girl, shop attendant, called me brave.
The President of Niks took loads of pictures of me (probably really a first customer for D300) may be for promotional purposes or just like to take pictures. And man, he gave no discount, only some memory cards and a camera bag. But, I was really happy.
After I've got the camera, I need to take about an hour of "Lesson" with the teacher in the shop, of the basic control of the camera. One among the first impressive thing was that I need no three cameras no more. This one take all Black and White, Colour and Slide (well sort of), you know.
My knowledge on Camera is very ancient (still not very use to the term ISO 200 for film sensitivity yet! I am still think in ASA, you see). He need to teach me of the white balance, and many things this camera can do, even removing the dust out of the lens itself.
Frankly, I've took about 100 pictures of everything around me since after I charged the battery already, but haven't yet fully utilise the full function of it. Having just purchased a car two weeks ago, I now have two very high tech toys that cost, or cause me bankruptcy. Plus, I now have two thick handbook of both the car the turn on the light and off itself, with steering wheel that move up and down by itself to let me out of the car to this camera that seems to be taking pictures by itself as well.
Just for your information, the picture of the camera in this blog is taken by Dopod P300W. This is life. A good phographer will never have his picture taken by himself, same with the camera!!!
Ok. I haven’t been blogging in this page for quite a long time. This one may be considered to be the continuation of the previous blog economic situations in Thailand.
A couple of weeks ago, I attended a seminar on the automobile industry and one among the stunning facts I learned was what the speaker told the audiences (majority are the owner of the factory producing car parts for leading Japanese car manufacturers). The speaker said we have been exporting cars overseas for quite a while (and the large number was about a bit more than five years ago). So, this is the good time that those cars will start to break down as parts begin to expires??!!? So it is a good opportunity to export now car spare parts!
It was quite stun to me as my car is just about five years and five months. I changed my shock absorbers three times already. The first set of four was changed after two and a half years for free, as the manufacture said it was still under guarantee. First, they change the front two, saying if the back two break down they will change them again. But, I insisted that I don’t want to live in the garage, so they all four for me for free. That was my second set.
About a year later, once I got into the garage for maintenance again, the same problem starts with the front two shock absorbers again. This time they said the guarantee expires already and I need to change them. This time I paid, thinking no so long after the back two shock absorbers will be gone, too.
Then, they also asked me to change the rubber part under the engine saying I don’t have to change it (part number 1) but my engine will be vibrating, and this may cause other problem besides me shaking my head at traffic lights (or rather the car shakes my head). This is the third time I need to change it, and the service centre told me that it happens to everyone who owns a Toyota Camry, as they all complain, and the service centre already wrote and complained to Toyota.
Moreover, the passenger’s rear left window stops functioning. I got into the garage, and they blame me of not opening it often so it gets rusted. They polished off the rust and lubricated it and told me to open can close it at least once a day. I did just that skipping one day that I didn’t go anywhere and it stop working again. This time, I made my mind up that I won’t be using it anymore. Changing the mechanic will cost me over 300 dollars. The problem is the right side then stops functioning as well.
I talk to all of my friends who use the same Camry 2002, we all share same problems. I reckon five years is also a good time for air con break down, and many other electrical parts.
So I’ve decided to trade in my Camry for the Mercedes as in the picture because this car model has been replacing with a new model that just came out in Thailand so they gave me almost 20 % discount. I’ve drove it for about ten days now and it’s a thrill with 204 horse power and the AMG suspension and tires 245/35 R 18 and 225/45 R18 that grip the corner like it’s on rail. Amazingly, with 2.5 litre and 204 horse power, it consumes the same amount of petrol as the Camry.
What do you think?
Ok. I’d like to do something serious for a change. In this blog, I’d discuss about the current situation on economic situation in general and the businesses in particular, especially what’s going on in Thailand at the moment. The ground rule is that I am no expert in these field, just my work relating to having to talk to many of the businessmen/and women in Thailand and I thought perhaps if I am spelling things out in my blog I will; firstly, get my mind more clear, secondly, provide some information about the business situation, and lastly invite your opinion especially if you have to deal with businesses in Thailand.
