Night Sky Farm's Blog Full Post View | List View

A blog? Interesting. I'll tell you about the farm and new things happening.

Entry for December 14, 2007
Yahoo has issues! I have now tried to post a half a dozen times and each time the entry is posted five times! I go to delete and I have to delete each separately and then around the third one, the whole post is deleted. So now I try again without a picture and only text. If this appears 5 times, I will give up. Check out my site on multiply!

Fixed now, but this made for a very frustrating morning!! Thank you, YAHOO

This Could Be A Gallery Installation

Sixty-five degrees and partly sunny is weather that is hard to beat in early December. This totally, gorgeous day found me working on the in
terior stall gates that will be facing the center aisle. Each one is different and all compliment each other. There is one more left to do, but I ran out of paint!. Anyway, I think they are really stunning, Perfect for Night Sky Farm. (I have been told they are too good for the goats) This is stall gate Number Four and the last one I painted yesterday. I see a bit of Vermont in this image. Stall gate Number Three, also has some of the same characteristics - but it fits the Virginia landscape as well. All the hinges will be hidden and the gate latches are black and self-locking. The gate that is left to paint is for the holding pen and that one, because of where it is in the view from the main doors, may well be  a new variant on the theme. I am thinking of putting animals on that one and it would involve much more hand work than these four. I really have missed painting! I have been involved in this construction project for a few months now and while it is creative in it's own right, creating art such as this is what I live and breathe for. I don't think it's too good for goats, but it is not meant to be there for the dear goats' enjoyment. It is for the humans that will be visiting and spending time at Night Sky to immerse themselves in and experience my world from a great many vantage points. The upstairs of the building will be home of my art studio and a gathering place to meet, learn and create. There is so much to appreciate here in this place and it doesn't just start and stop with the goats, but goes past them to the surrounding landscape, the nature within and beyond.

The working areas of the barn are getting completed. The luaun for a backing board has been put up and today, the white FRP pla
stic panels are being installed in the designated places within the cheese room, milking parlor and milk room. I went to my most favorite store, the Habitat for Humanity, Restore and found 5 gallons of sealer and 5 gallons of white paint for the walls and ceilings in those rooms. I also found some wallpaper border strips, to be hung near the ceilings, of colorful, nature-oriented imagery. Because of all the white in those rooms, a bit of color is needed to break it up and keep me sane while working inside them 24/7. It won't be long now 'til the barn is done and the "real" work can begin. I want to make a goat brie!

Please Again, I invite you to check out the new blog at multiply.com! The address is:
nightskyfarm.multiply.com
I think you need to join to view my page, so please do. It is free and you do not need to actually write a blog or do anything to your page (which you are assigned when you join), it can be left absolutely empty. The new site is very nice with a different lay-out and visual feel, but I am really enjoying the features multiply.com has to offer. So again, please check it out.

I have been staining the exterior of the barn while we have good weather. It looks "Old World" with the colors I have chosen. I will post some new pics on the new site and possibly here as well. We do have a week of good outdoor weather forecasted so I need to take advantage of it. J :)

"Wintermode"

We are now in "Wintermode". Yesterday, I went through the kitchen like the white tornado; scrubbing the tile floor, cleaning off the cookstove of all it's summer accumulation and giving the top a new coat of stove blacking. The cat has now reoccupied her perch from previous winters and there is a pile of stove wood stacked behind. T!here is something comforting about a crackling warm fire in the kitchen. I even turned off the gas oven and put the half-cooked roast into the wood oven to finish off and cooked the veggies on the top! Time to start making bread once more in the wood cookstove. J
