A very sad day

I guess all good things have to come to an end eventually. The reason I have not made any recent entries in this blog is because for a very rare time in my life I was happy. Well my happiness came to an end yesterday when my girlfriend moved out and went back home. We knew starting a relationship found online was risky and even more risky moving so far to live with me having never met in person before. We did better than I could have imagined for a long time but the relationship changed and we needed to end things. It was not for lack of love on either of our parts, it was just something that happened.

I did not know I could get so used to someone in a matter of months that we had together and I know I will miss her for a very long time if not forever. For someone who was used to being alone, sleeping alone, and coming home to an empty house, yesterday was a bad experience from the first time I walked through the door. I could feel her presence and could also feel it slipping away.

She was the only person that truly accepted me as Sally and we would go out together on Saturday nights. The nights she was not feeling up to going out she would always encourage me to go and always would tell me I looked pretty when I would come out of the bedroom.

I will take the positives from this relationship, or at least I will try to take the positives. No matter how rare they may be, there are women out there that will accept and encourage us. With any luck I will find another one eventually.

A tale of two weekends
A tale of two weekends magnify

The last two weekends could not have been more different if I had tried to make them so. The amazing part is that I had a great time during both weekends. A week ago, I spent the weekend in Houston and anyone who knows me knows I love it there. While the three hour drive is long it does provide me with a good opportunity to think and reflect which makes the time go faster (I wish it made the gas bill smaller too). It is always a pleasure to go for my hair since my hair stylist takes such good care of me and I was fortunate enough to meet my best friend at the salon. She can be such an inspiration especially since she has gotten so much more comfortable going out in public as a girl. It does seem to motivate me a little to expand my horizons. I had only planned on getting a slight trim to even up the ends but it turned out we were going to try color one more time. For some reason my hair does not seem to hold on to color for very long and it is frustrating; at first, I thought it was because of the chemical straightening that I have done to it. That theory goes out the window since my friend has her hair straightened too and her dye holds great. Then I thought it was because I picked a red color the first time but that theory was wrong since the brown of the second attempt did not hold either. We tried something different this time with a two step process, so I am keeping my fingers crossed. If it does not work this time I will have to conclude I have mutant hair and accept it the way it is. Friday night was a blast as I went to my usual dance club and had a chance to see friends I had not seen in several weeks. Of course, Saturday was spent shopping (you better be sitting for this part) and all I bought were a couple pair of shorts and one top (it does not fit). Yes that is right sally in shorts and not a skirt. Saturday night started with meeting some friends at a club and while I enjoyed seeing the friends I had not seen in awhile it was disappointing because there were only four of us there. A trooper that I am this did not deter me as I got back in my car and headed to my Friday night club again where they were doing a gothic thing. It was really great and I got to see more friends that I had not seen in awhile. The only explanation for the poor turn out of girls in Houston is that there are so many places to go that the pool of girls spreads out more. With more than four times the population of Austin you would think I still would have seen more.

I guess this weekend really started on Tuesday for me since I went out then to start my week off wearing one of the new pairs of shorts I bought. Back again on Thursday night in another pair of shorts and you guessed it Friday night in a different pair of shorts (I was a little worried these would be too short but they were ok). Those days were totally different and just as much fun. I did not have as large a group of people that I knew but enjoyed spending the quality time with friends even if we were just sitting on the patio talking. Saturday night I was back in a skirt again and had gone very casual with a jean skirt and top. It was fun just being able to sit out on the patio and talk to friends and yes we discussed politics a lot without anyone getting mad at each other. I made my points, they made their points and we all learned from each other. We are not the enemy and even when we disagree we all want to see a better world we just differ about how to go about it. I can not believe we closed the bar that way.

All in all, I had two great weekends (and a few weekdays thrown in to boot). They could not have been more different but I would not trade one for the other.

Happy 4th of July
Happy 4th of July magnify

Just wanted to wish everyone a happy holiday, enjoy the weekend and be safe. Not much happening here lately as I have been staying close to home and trying to find some balance in my life. Things have been getting better going out lately, seeing friends and playing some pool (still not good at all) and having some fun. Hopefully I will get out this Saturday too, umm what to wear what to wear?

Mating season at the zoo
Mating season at the zoo magnify

For the first time since I have been going out in Austin, I felt out of place at the club. It could have been my imagination but it seemed to turn into mating season at the zoo. Possibly it was my upcoming birthday making me feel old, or the fact that it was pride day in Austin where a lot of the people came in already half drunk. The guys there seemed to be more aggressive than normal and many of the girls were just sitting at the bar waiting to be hit on. While I am not into guys, I always thought I could accept the different preferences of others but last Saturday night it just seemed to get on my nerves more. I will continue to go back since I have a group of friends there and yes some of them are after the guys but they are still my friends and at times I would even introduce some to the guys I knew that were gentlemen. I guess everyone has an off night sometimes and last Saturday was mine. At least I won two our of the three pool games which is a rarity for me.

Another Houston weekend
Another Houston weekend magnify

Well after almost three months without taking a trip to Houston, I was going a bit crazy staying close to home and the time was right for another trip. Leaving early Friday morning (before 10am) the drive was relaxing (and long) but I got there in plenty of time to check into my hotel and drop off my bags (they get real warm staying in the car too long). I made it to my hair appointment early since I am still trying to figure out how long it takes me to get around Houston. The first thing my hair stylist said to me was that I needed to get my hair straightened again since it was getting all curly and frizzy. The only sad news was that since my hair was chemically treated then red was not a color dye that would stay in my hair. I had it done the last time I was in Houston and in a little over six weeks it was gone. Since I am not willing to have it done every six weeks the redhead Sally is gone. While the chemicals were doing their thing to my hair: my best friend showed up to get hers done as well. She is much braver then I am and does better in public so she came in girl mode (yes I am a little jealous). While I was sitting there, my hair stylist declared the gray has to go and proceeded to darken my hair. Honestly I did not see the gray since the gray hairs seemed to revert back to my original color. Actually, I think she just does not like my natural color. It was all good since I have total faith in her and without her I know I would still be wearing wigs.

Friday night was set for the dance club I love to go to and I did my usual go early while the club is not busy. The only disappointing part was my best friend was called into work and could not make it. It was not too much of a problem as I had been there before along and have come to know a number of the regulars there. I was lucky and also met some very nice new people and feel I have started some new friendships.

Saturday night was something a little different, as several of the local TG groups were sponsoring a 1950s style prom and since I was in town thought it would be fun. Not to fear, I had a poodle mini skirt that fit the occasion. It would just not be me if I went with a long skirt. Ok, so it looked more like a car hop skirt than a prom one but I refused to buy anything I would only wear once. I had a surprisingly good time but then again the lady that puts these parties on always does a great job.

Well that is about it for now and I hope everyone had a great weekend. The only sad part is that while I took pictures of others I never had any taken of me (other than the ones in the hotel before going out sat night which I posted here).
