September 11, 2001..an infamous day when this country was pushed over the edge and decided to fight back! Screw the U.N., the Democrats or anyone else that has a problem with that! Reply

This is pure brilliance by a woman that I admire more politically than anyone else I can possibly think of right now. Why? Because she articulates (oh so spectacularly!)the policies and values (lower taxes, less government spending, pro-military, anti-abortion, etc.) that I and millions of other Americans hold near and dear to our heart! She hit the Democrats right between the eyes with cold hard facts....I love the way this wonderful lady drops the gloves and is not afraid to duke it out! It seems as if Conservatives these days are content to let the Liberals and Democrats dictate which discussions we'll have and how we'll have them. Before Sarah Palin was named as the Republican vice-Presidential candidate, I gotta admit that I was going to vote for McCain (without a doubt, as the American-hating, tax-raising, issue-dodging Communist in sheeps clothing Barak Obama would destroy this great nation), but I was far from excited. After watching this speech last night, I am completely energized, as is the ENTIRE Conservative base....just look at the polls and listen to the talk shows! I actually had goose bumps during this speech last night since it's been many years since I've heard such a prominent Republican (she is afterall the vice-Presidential candidate) articulate Conservative values, especially in such grand fashion. Hell, I am seriously considering volunteering some of my very precious time to help the McCain/Palin campaign! Beyond all that, she is a genuine person...someone like you and me who has common sense and ideals and someone who hasn't been corrupted by Washington politics (BOTH sides of the isle). For those of you out there that are Republicans, alot of this will hit close to home. For you Liberals out there, you can't dodge the truth!

June the 6th, 2008 marks the 64th anniversary of the greatest seaborn assault in world history when American, British and Canadian troops stormed the beaches of Normandy in an attempt to dislodge the German defenders from northern France. Nicknamed "Operation Overlord", the assault would land more than 130, 000 soldiers on beaches named "Omaha" & "Utah" in the American sector, "Gold" & "Sword" in the British sector and "Juno" in the Canadian sector, with another 195,000 naval personnel also taking part in operations. The Germans were well aware that an invasion was forthcoming for some time and thus fortified their positions within the "Atlantic Wall" to the utmost. The events of this day are significant within the context of World War II and modern history in general. So without going into the extensive details surrounding this historic day (feel free to look it up on Wikipedia or elsewhere), I'll just ask that you take a moment to pause and give thanks to those that fought and died for our freedom and way of life on that bloody day. As the following clips from my favorite movie of all-time, "Saving Private Ryan" will show (only depicts events on Omaha Beach, but are very indicative of what happened on the other beaches), this truely was The Longest Day.
***WARNING*** the following scenes are VERY graphic!!! To be honest, I really don't expect more than a couple of you to actually watch this, but these clips will clearly illustrate what sort of Hell on Earth these brave men had to endure. This blog is my humble tribute to those men.
As some of you may or may not know, I love music.....all kinds really, but mostly something that rocks or has and "edge" to it. For example, I've seen groups like Korn, Cypress Hill, Godsmack, Metallica and Tool in concert and am going to see Nine Inch Nails in August. I like Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin...I also like hardcore rap (sorry Paul! lol). I think you see my point. But I heard this song today and it really resonated with me. I couldn't help but feel calm and relaxed when I listened to it (an effect attributed to Classical music in general, in case you didn't know). This song is quite popular at weddings, so you may recognize it.....I hope you enjoy it as much as me either way.

Here are some photos I took while on a scout trip with my son Anthony a couple weeks ago. We went to the Wright-Patterson Air Force Museum just outside of Dayton, Ohio (this was a 3 1/2 hr. drive for me). Some of the shots are kinda dark and there wasn't alot of room to get perfectly-framed pics, but I hope they at least capture some of the experience. While I managed to keep my son there for 5 hours or so (sometimes kids aren't very patient
....we never even visited the last hangar exhibit-Cold War aircraft), I could easily spend an entire day or two soaking up the scenery, reading the displays and talking to the volunteer staff (most, if not all are former veterans
).
