Well, here is is Memoriial Day 2007, and winter is finally behind us! I've been busy posting photos on my website. I recently put up 600 shots of my bear from last year, and I've put more of my 2006 hummingbird shots there as well. I still have a few hundred more hummingbird shots to get through from last year before I start posting any from this year, but I'm working on it. I have also recently realized that I have some hummer shots from 2005 that I never looked at, and one of these days I'll get to those as well. I also have tons of bird photos going back to early summer of last year, so if I do absolutely nothing other than work with photos, I'm going to be very busy.

Check out my website to see what I've posted so far!

Well, I don't know how it happened, but it's October already!  I saw my last hummingbird on September 20th.  Still have a feeder out in case of late migrators, but I haven't seen anything since the 20th.

I'm spending my time now taking photos of garden birds and trying to go through the thousands of photos I've taken over the summer and getting them up on Webshots with links to them from my website.

I'm still fighting with my bear, trying to keep food out for the birds without him getting it.  Yesterday he knocked a fence gate down and stole a brand new thistle sock (filled).  He also tore a second new sock and drained that.  We are now putting hooks up too high for him to reach so I can leave some feeders out all of the time (on pulleys so I can bring them down to clean & refill).  I don't know when the bear will go into hibernation, but right now he's about as wide as he is tall.  His tummy is only about a foot from the ground!

The moon has been gorgeous the past week!  One of my photos from Friday night is attached.  The leaves are starting to turn and it's getting really pretty out there.  Hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful fall weather!

My bear was back about two hours ago.  Here's a shot from tonight.  He looks like he is bowing, and he's even smiling!  Actually, he was scratching an itch and it looks like it felt really good.

He came by, but as soon as I saw him, I went out and pulled the bird food cart outside.  He saw the food going away and went across the road to lay down in the grass on the other side.  He actually put his head down and it looked like he was sleeping.  He didn't stay long though, only about 15 minutes.  Then it was off.  I expect him back on Wednesday.  He seems to make rounds that take about three days.

Last night while the bear was coming and going, I was outside taking pictures of hummingbirds.  This may or may not be THE best shot I've evern taken, but it's definitely in the top 10.  Enjoy!

(PS)  Eventually I'll put a larger version on my website.  This shot is AWSOME full-screen!
