Maya the girl next door

Scene I

Maya: papa? Is it bad to love and get married?

Papa: of course not, provided it is good both get married of the same religion not of the same caste though.

Mama: you are spoiling your daughter!

Maya: why you are particular of the same religion papa?

Papa: I am not concerned whether he is Muniyan or Akbar or Antony but it is better the couples follow the same religion that the children follow one religion. It is ironical that even in school application form for kindergarten people expect the parents to fill up religion. So at least for the sake of children, please you get married to anyone of your choice but at best follow one religion not to confuse your children. That is only the promise I expect of you.

Scene II

Papa: is mama there? Krishna phoned up to say that a boy would like to see Maya for marriage alliance tomorrow, please prepare her for the meeting tomorrow and please buy sweets and keep the occasion going. I have a little more to do at office, so even I may attend office tomorrow; it is at our house at say 5 p m tomorrow for a high tea? Got it?

I still feel after your higher studies, you may get a job and find a suitable working partner to repent for the promise that you have made to the class mate of yours. At that time also if you are confused you seek my counsel I shall never say “I told you such” at any point in time. I love you as my daughter.

Maya: thanks papa, but remember there can be no redress.
