fun with digital photos

Here is a guide I did to spice up your digital photos and images Faux Photo Effects. Hope I made it simple enough but you do need Photoshop : ( : ) but vers 6 or 7 would be ok to use and probably be picked up cheap on ebay or free on 'other' ; ) Very addictive though. Especially the cross processing and its acid colours. The one above is in Thailand

Start Stencilling
Start Stencilling magnify
I should update my blog a little more frequently, but my main energy is spent working on my website. Some great artists for the start of 2008 , Bohemiart's dark and moody ladies and some exciting daily journal collage pages from Marieke. These are done in a Moleskine reporters book , and visually very stimulating. I've also just completed a tutorial on hands on stencilling (as opposed to digital). It took a while to get this altogether, learning as I went along, but I think there is everything there you need to get started. Stencilling is a great addition to your journals, and with my method, images can be 'cut' in no time. Check out the Stencilled Self Portrait Challenge

A new page on art-e-zine to start 2008 with a great vintage goth artist, Bohemiart who was happy to share her gorgeous art. Thank You to her.

Am still feeling the worse for wear after 2 weeks of R&R although that cant seem right. Daughter had party the other night and I still need to sleep. After a day on the computer, brain and eyes now disfunctional. But Happy. So passing it on to you whoever you may be. Happy New Year and hope this one can be as productive as the last with a little help from my friends

Tequila Christmas Cake
Ingredients:
1 cup of water
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup of sugar
1 tsp salt
1 cup of brown sugar
Lemon juice
4 large eggs
Nuts
1 bottle tequila
2 cups of dried fruit

Sample the tequila to check quality. Take a large bowl, check the tequila
again. To be sure it is of the highest quality, pour one level cup and
drink. Repeat. Turn on the electric mixer. Beat one cup of butter in a
large fluffy bowl. Add one teaspoon of sugar. Beat again. At this point
it's best to make sure the tequila is still OK. Try another cup... just in
case. Turn off the mixerer thingy. Break 2 leggs and add to the bowl and
chuck in the cup of dried fruit.

Pick the fruit up off floor. Mix on the turner. If the fried
druit gets stuck in the beaterers just pry it loose with a drewscriver.
Sample the lequita to check for tonsisticity. Next, sift two cups of salt.
Or something. Check the tequila. Now shift the lemon juice and strain your
nuts. Add one table. Add a spoon of sugar, or somefink. Whatever you can
find. Greash the oven. Turn the cake tin 360 degrees and try not to fall
over. Don't forget to beat off the turner. Finally, throw the bowl through
the window. Finish the tequila and wipe counter with the cat.

CHERRY MISTMAS!

Shepard Fairey
Shepard Fairey magnify
I really didn't know what to expect when I went to Shepard Fairey's exhibition at Stolen Space Gallery Trueman Brewery last Saturday. But was totally speechless when I entered the Gallery. More like a huge warehouse, absolutely vast. Then I saw the canvases, how they filled the space. Giant ones floor to ceiling and masses of other pieces. I didn't equate this with the sticker guy. Then I started to look, first standing away then homing in on them. I just cant tell you what I saw. Collage--not just stencils (massive ones or were they silk-screens ) layered with intricate patterns made up of custom designed logos and graphics by the artist, sprayed over to quieten it subtly in the background, texture, harmonies colour, big bold graphics and images all woven together in one huge amazing symphony of visual poetry. I was totally in awe of this art. Its what I was doing (collage, stencils etc) but infinitely bigger and superior. There was his fine art posters also collaged on paper, his silk-screens on metal, his gorgeous graphic work on old LP covers, to die for. And he is a DJ. He also has his own advertising design company, clothing ranges, customised guitars and more and he is a DJ. I'm not so into political messages in art, not really me--its all about the art and aesthetics. But I can get what he says through his art. I just so admire what he's been able to achieve, he puts all these huge exhibitions on himself--hanging all the work, in one country after another. Prolific and mega talented. He just has blown my mind away. And inspired me to try a little bit harder
