TREND MICRO OFFERS EXPERTISE TO
NEW CYBER-TERRORISM CENTRE
Tokyo, Japan - May 16, 2006 -
Trend Micro Incorporated, (TSE: 4704, NASDAQ:TMIC), a leader in network antivirus and content security software and services, is
offering its support and expertise to the Malaysian Government initiative to set up an
international centre in Cyberjaya to fight cyber-terrorism.
Mr Goh Chee Hoh, Managing Director of Trend Micro Asia South and Country Manager
of Malaysia, said Trend Micro was approached in January this year by Ascendsys, one
of the two local companies which have been entrusted with the task of spearheading the
IMPACT (International Multilateral Partnership Against Cyber-terrorism) initiative.
Trend Micro will be working closely with Ascendsys, Telekom Malaysia and the
Malaysian Government to make this ground-breaking initiative a success.
Mr. Steve Chang, Trend Micro’s Founder and Chairman will also sit on IMPACT’s
International Advisory Board.
"Our dependence on information and communication technology makes cyber-terrorism
a real threat to all nations. At the touch of a button, cyber-terrorists could potentially
cause serious damage to a country’s economic and business infrastructure" Goh said.
With the ‘human element’ recognised as the weakest link in the defence against IT
threats, Trend Micro has proposed to IMPACT a programme to educate member
governments about malicious threats and the various measures that can be taken to
minimise the risks. In an effort to educate future generations, Trend Micro has
proposed that primary, secondary and college students learn about malware, and how to
identify, categorise and eliminate threats.
In supporting IMPACT, Trend Micro suggests its Certified Antivirus Professional (TCAP)
training modules be undertaken by each government’s department IT Security Officer
enabling them with the necessary skills to combat these constant evolving threats.
Besides training and skill development, Trend Micro has also offered its assistance in
the area of emergency response and timely alert regarding potentially damaging threats.
Trend Micro’s global malware research, service and support organisation, TrendLabs
SMwould collaborate with IMPACT and the various related agencies to create a centre point
for technology and skill transfer, research and development.
"Currently, we have over 1000 engineers in TrendLabs, working around the clock to
provide solutions and services to our clients globally. We are most willing to share our
knowledge and insights and provide expert advice to IMPACT." Goh said.
Trend Micro currently works closely with National Emergency Response Centres in
many nations across the globe, sharing its research and technical expertise in providing
software solutions, hardware solutions and services to combat viruses, worms and other
digital threats.
Trend Micro’s software solutions such as its "Enterprise Protection Strategy" are already
the choice of many Malaysian Government departments and Government-Link
Companies (GLCs), ensuring their digital operational continuity.
