Grinner's Musings
Who would of thunk it? The pursuit of passion is never over then! YAY!
With 44 just in sight, I'm trying to come to terms with being, can I even type it? Mature, there I typed it. Middle age really isn't so bad, but I can see for me, it's going to take way fewer carbs and a commitment to physical fitness to even come close to how I felt and looked in my 30 Something years.
However, there is some good news ladies! They are saying there's a revolution going on and it's changing the way women think about themselves as they age. For a lot of us women, growing older is no longer seen as a curse. Many of us are not settling for the stereotypical roles of middle aged women and a lot of us are excited about our "second adulthood". I know I am!
And according to best-selling author and baby boomer chronicler Gail Sheehy, the seasoned woman... (women between the ages of 40 and death) fit into one of five categories. And I think you will agree after reading through them, that you most likely do fit into one.
The first are the passionate. These are sensual, independent, working women. If they are married, they've found a way to revitalize, spice up their mid-life marriage because they worked at it. If they are single, they are dating, and often dating more than one man at a time and are often dating younger men.
Then there are the seekers. Seekers want what the passionates have, but they haven't quite found the key yet. Some of them are still bitter and unhappy from a previous relationship, so they aren't particularly appealing. Others are scared and feel like they are too old, too fat, too scared. But, basically, they haven't quite caught on how to do it yet.
Then there are the WMDs: Women Married Dammit. These women are stuck. They are frustrated and angry. They may have a marriage that's been emotionally empty for a while but they would rather complain about it than figure out how to renew themselves.
Then there are the women who fall under the category of SQS: Status Quo. Status quo women are not necessarily unhappy, but, they are resigned and they aren't doing anything to find a new dream or find a new source of spiritual refreshment or a new love.
And then there are women who fall under the category of LLs: Lowered Libidos. Like many women after menopause, they find some diminishment in libido. But the LLs, unlike the others, aren't doing anything about it. There are new things women can do. These are women that just say, 'Been there, done that, not interested' they're simply just turned off.
And.... no matter which category you fall under or which you can relate to, you can still pursue the passionate life if you want it says Sheehy, so you may just want to pick up her book, for some wise insight as to how.
On a side note, just think ladies... we have the Feisty 50s, the Selective 60s, the Spontaneous 70s, the Enduring 80s and the Noble 90s to look forward to! LOL
As far as I'm concerned, it doesn't get any better than this when I stumple upon unknown artists such as Eric Lindell with his soulful roots rock and a little New Orleans style of R&B. Not to mention some funk to go along with it.
Call it swamp pop if you will, but I LLLike it! Take a few minutes to sit back and have a listen...
I managed to get a hold of this aerial shot which was taken by a police camera from an upper floor in the casino this past May. It's a beauty. Not too shabby for a lunch bucket Canadian city bordering Detroit now is it?
I think Im going to have a print done. ![]()
As any baseball fan is aware we have the All Star break coming up this week. I'm hoping the American League can extend their winning streak to 12 and once again take home field advantage for the World Series.
Now this years game will be played at Yankee Stadium, The Bronx, New York. Yes, home of the New York Yankees. The 2008 season is the final one for the Stadium before the team moves into their new digs for the 2009 season. So needless to say it is seen by most as a fitting tribute to an old stadium rich with baseball history.
I love the commercial that Fox Sports has come up with for this years All Star Game. I always have to watch it beginning to end and then take my quick washroom break or beverage break.
I get the feeling this one's going to be just a bit sentimental...
Oooooh, I had the pleasure of hearing Steve Winwood's latest track Dirty City and I like it!
I've always been a Winwood fan, he's written some great songs, not to mention he's a former member of such great bands as Spencer Davis Group & Traffic. His latest album Nine Lives is said to be reminiscent of his days with those bands.
At 60, Winwood is still putting out some good music as I had the pleasure of discovering when I heard the track below. It has some awesome guitar riffs which if I'm not mistaken is thanks to Eric Clapton as he is featured on this track. It's got that blues/soul sound to it, which as you know, is so grinnerish.
I notice this rock legend is playing at Rock The Park just up the road from here this month.
