Someone must have fed the wildlife at one of the campsites, because we had to fend off six deviously coordinated marmots who plotted to steal our socks and chew the rubber off our hiking poles.
This is a picture of an IT NGO which works to perform transcriptions for hire. Each of the workers are college students who work part time transcribing documents into the computer. Their materials ranged from historical issues of the Harvard Crimson to biblical greek to obscure symbology.
The second time I went to Svay Rieng, the power cut suddenly at noon. The owners of the shops up and down the street brought out their electrical generators. This is a picture of such a generator. It's surprising that such a small motor can generate enough electricity to power the lights and computers for an entire computer center.
All the while I sat next to the generator near the door, the constant thought in my mind was how much oxygen the generators were drinking.
As soon as we got off of the dirt road, the truck driver pulled over into a garage. Something got screwed up in the axle to wheel connection and the steering of the truck was off. It was pretty interesting to see the driver completely take apart the wheel, make the replacement part and reassemble the wheel in the course of two hours.
Getting a refill on gas, developing country style. I was expecting them to use those sweet looking gas pumps that operate directly from the can, but instead the driver just bought one giant tank full of gasoline.
