I was in Zimbabwe

From the 19th of December to the 3rd of January I was in Zimbabwe. I had a chance to visit many people, Gogo Mai Musonza, Gogo Micho, Tete Kademaunga just to mention but a few were all delighted to see me too. Zimbabwe the once lovely southern african bread basket is in a verge of collapse. Too much black market for everything. I cry for Zimbabwe. One day hope things will be better.

Just moved to Kampala

Well it’s been a while since the idea of blogging hit me. I have also been having a tough time. I lost my old laptop which I had for two years. It was just two weeks after buying a new one which was lost the same day I lost the old one. I lost data, photos and 10gig music. I will miss the pricey machines. I was in Nairobi when all this was happening.

I have then been moved to Kampala since my company was awarded a project to clean up the power company's databases. It is quite a tiring job since I will have to be doing a bit of coordinating the people who will be going on the ground to do data collection.

It was not my first time though to come to Kampala since I have been in this place before. Also my advantage of being African who has traveled in Africa saved me so I can get into the gear of work quickly. I got a house to stay after staying in a hotel for three long weeks. Actually I am moving into the new house tonight. I want to do that. The food is not affecting me much but too much of cooked bananas (matoke) is still not good for my stomach. Also the food lacks a lot of vegetables unlike the food I am used to.

On the roads they have what they call "boda boda" these are very roughly driven Indian and Chinese made motorbikes. They are very fast to navigate the city of Kampala but not ideal since I said roughly driven. The drivers have no licenses and they do not mind driving going the opposite side in a one way. The people are quite huge. I think it's because of the matoke mixed with sweet and Irish potatoes. The weather so far has been hot and Lake Victoria makes the air so moist. I am finding that affecting my eyes a lot.

The bars are too slow, they cannot compare to Zimbabwe, Zambia and Kenya. People are enjoying watching Big Brother Africa 2 on TVs in the pubs. Old man like me following the Big Brother housemates all the time I am in the pub? They have good local brews like Nile Special Beer and Bell Lager. The problem is the bottles look too big. Anyway it's an East African thing to have such big bottles (500ml) not 330 or 375ml like back home. They also have Castle Larger mostly found in 500ml cans. Not many good places for dancing, but it seems like the place can rock and roll, try Rock Garden for good Saturday football coverage then dance the weekend into Sunday.

To those interested in following my Uganda project I would like to be updating this blog more and more every time I get something new.

Blogging about Mobile Phone Network Service Providers

I know it's one industry I don't understand much but to help myself understand this exciting industry (maybe the fastest growing and richest investment you can do in Africa with no hassles) I came up with a blog on blogger. Check it out here.

I have so far covered a bit on Kenya's two operating service providers. I would have loved a blog with the news in West and North Africa. I can get so much information from South and East Africa.

Manchester United were crowned the league champions but have unfortunately failed to shine at the new Wembley stadium. It was a tough match and I think the better team lost :) but the truth is it was awful to watch the FA cup final.

Time flies

Just like yesterday we were wishing each other happy New Years. Now we are already in March, can time wait for me please. I am growing too old.

I just moved to a new apartment over the weekend. I got into another apartment for the same monthly rentals but I overlooked one problem, the house I moved to has very large windows and I have to buy new curtains for that. Very expensive curtains here.

This weekend as usual I when Man U is playing I was wearing my AIG red shirt. It was a tough game for United as looserpool (sorry Liverpool) was firing from many angles. I think United was lucky. Now we have to make sure we continue winning since the Blues are right on behind us and not giving up the title chase so easily. This week once again Lille and dear United.

To a happy 2007
To a happy 2007 magnify

Once again it's that time of the year when we have those great holidays, I am in the festive mood right now. Unfortunately I am working over the holidays. I am sending this merry christmas wish late but I think I can still wish you a happy and blessed 2007.

Whats your new year's resolution? Mine, maybe an Oracle Certification (OCP) and do anything to nice up my CV after that.

And for a smile,

There have been many, many times in 2006 when I may have
disturbed you
troubled you
pestered you
irritated you
bugged you
But today I just wanna tell you that in 2007 .....
I TOTALLY PLAN TO DO IT AGAIN !!!!!!!
Happy holidays ……
