Sorry everyone for disappearing for so long :( ..
.. I've been preparing for a big hurdle in my life and of course..
at the same time work's been asking for 60+ hrs a week of my time.

Next week is that serious "fork" in my life that's been put off for a couple years..
.. but finaly here to be crossed.

Oh my.. did you think I meant "mating" !?? ;) LMAO ;) .. you little naughty ones ! lol :-)

.. ummm.. I was talking about "check-mating".. silllllly you ! :P HA !
(though the other one does take a little concentrating too ya know.. lol)

The pic above is of the original "Isle of Lewis" chess pieces were found in a sand mound/cave
discovered in early 1831 on the west coast of the Isle of Lewis, in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland.

These pieces were been dated to ~ (approximately) the 1100's !!

Checkout the "Bezerkers" .. lol.. these are the pieces.. literally chomping at the bit.. BITTING their shields looking for action.. ready to go "bezerk" !! I have a museum replica of this set that's cool to play on.. makes you feel like a bit of a Viking.. Grrrrr :P

I must say.. playing a game of war.. where you get your own army and it's all about thinking and strategy ... always has pushed it's players .. the constant challenge to improve (almost like Golf ;) ).


ORIGINs of CHESS

The original predecessor was born in India in the 500's.. known as "Chaturanga", where the former 4 types of pieces included those common to Indian warfare (infantry=pawns, cavalry=horses, elephants=diagonals, and Chariots=straight lft/rt/up/dn).

.. when Chess had moved from India to Europe .. it morphed it's pieces (driven by Christianity), into the current chess known for changing the King's assistant/general to his Queen.. and adding Catholic Bishops (hence the Middle ages .. the Catholic Church.. and it's fingerprints in changing not only the theology of the world.. the belief systems.. the languages and cultures.. but even the GAMES !).

Recently, several studies have shown that not only the young.. but even more importantly.. the elderly have been shown to slow/prevent brain decay.. aka Alzheimer's (and grow new synapses.. etc..) by playing chess !! (or other non-trivial games/puzzles).

The game really isn't that tough at all.. one you learn how the pieces move.. and is honestly the MOST fun you'll find with a board game.. almost NEVER having the same game twice.. (unless you keep playing the same person the same way.. lol).

Here goes.. :

Four people were traveling on a train in Europe.. sitting in the same section all by themselves.

There was one old lady, one very smart young lady, one Indian man, and one Pakistani man.

The train went into a tunnel and all of sudden it was completely DARK !

.. no one could see anything.. and then suddenly all of them heard a loud KISSSss.... and an even louder SLAPPP !

The train came out of the tunnel .. and they saw a red HANDPRINT ! on the face of the Indian man ..... no one said a word.

The old lady thinks to herself.. that the Indian guy definitely kissed the young lady and got the reward.

The young lady thinks .. "that idiot missed kissing me in the dark .. and kissed the old woman and he got the slap in return !".

The Indian guy thinks .. "this idiot Pakistani tried to kiss the young lady , missed his aim in the dark, .. and instead.. "I" get blamed and got the slap ! ... idiot Pakistani he thought".

Finally.. The Pakistani was thinks to himself and says .."hmm.. next time it gets dark .. I'll make that kissing sound ... and SLAP the Indian guy AGAIN !! ".

LMAO !! GET IT !?!? LOL .. (OK, read this again if you need to.. but realize that Pakistan and India are bitter rivals.. pointing Nuclear missles at one-another's countries, etc..).. ohhh man, hope I didn't fail again here .. :P

OK, I thought it was funny.. so I suppose.. mission accomplished either way ! LOL :D
